USA Today:
AT&T's iPhone Preparation, Testing and Release Day Info
Interesting article. Here are highlights:
* 6:00pm confirmed.
* Staying open until 10 p.m.
* "We fully expect one or more of our stores to run out of stock on the first day"
* 2,000 extra sales people hired on
* New York City, Chicago and much of California will have more units available
* If they run out, sales people will take mail orders to be shipped in 3 to 5 days
* iPhone specific plans will be announced the 29th
* "Plans will be customized for the iPhone" i.e. have some kind of data
* $50 million spent adding additional data for iPhone traffic
* Secret testing has been going on
* Technicians have logged more than 10,000 hours on the phone
* More than 5,000 hours of voice calls and near 5 gigabytes of data usage also
* They doused it with water, dropped it on concrete and bounced it off sidewalks.
Somehow I doubt it faired well in that last test.
