Does anyone know how to get around the "This Accessory not made to work with iPhone" nonsense?

I've got my phone plugged directly into my Alpine iPersonalize receiver and it works fine once I say NO to going into airplane mode. But I can't access iTunes or listen to calls through my speakers... any ideas?

I'd also suggest being careful with it. I use to get that pop up when I used my iphone in my car stereo hookup that was made to work with regular ipods and right after that it stopped working and I had to go trade it in for another.

You can replace the battery though, right? They sell it for about 40 bucks complete w/ instructions. Seems easy enough to DIY.

Just got a 16gig a couple days ago after switching from a WM device (Mogul). WM has so many good things going for it, but it just flat out sucks as an actual phone. So tired of it randomly running out of batteries or crashing, of course this always happened at the most inconvenient times. So many little things never worked quite right or erratically.

I like everything about iPhone so far aside from the lack of a to-do list application. WebApps aren't going to cut it for me in that department.

I take it yours isn't hacked as there are a number of To Do List apps. I use one called ToDoList.

Alternatively, the native 'Notes' app works just the same, sans reminders. There's also a calender that can serve the same purpose, complete w/ reminders, so I don't really see that being an issue the more I think about it.

I was under the impression that the battery was not user replaceable, but that Apple could do it for you. I'm not sure I'd personally want to pry open my precious precious toy.

And I have no idea what the hell he's talking about either.

Eh, you need persistence of tasks, which you don't really want to clutter your calendar with by creating lots of repeating events. And you need the ability to prioritize tasks conveniently which the Notes app doesn't offer. Finally, an ability to mark a task complete, which neither offers natively. Too much left to the user to jury rig for either app to really be sufficient as a task manager.

I've got a jailbroken & unlocked 1.1.3 phone (originally 1.0.2 when I first got it last year), and right now there's not many apps that are compatible with 1.1.3 yet, so I'd hold off on 1.1.3 until they update all their codes.

So I was thinking the new 16GB iPhone was actually a workable replacement for my iPod and I wanted to know 2 things:

a) Should I wait for a 2.0 model, or even more storage, or one with an SD slot or something?
b) Is there an article/review that specifically focuses oh how good a replacement the iPhone is for the iPod?
c) Even better would be a link to an article with a good approach for "rotating" the music on the iPhone's limited capacity that eases a lot of the manual work.

My old iPod is a 60GB, and I enjoyed the extra space but on an ongoing basis I don't really need the extra space, plus I'd love to converge devices and have a decent smartphone solution.

It's a substantially better iPod than the iPod IMO for the interface alone. But I don't like to have my entire library w/ me. I hate that because it's just too much to sift through. If yu're methodical about the songs you listen to, it's perfect. If you want nothing but entire albums, even 16GB is not enough (unless you don't put any video on it).


I currently have 500 songs and 100 videos/movies on my iPhone w/ 1GB left. Mine is hacked so there are 4 pages of apps as well.

I don't think there will be a re-designed iPhone before 2009, so waiting is kind of pointless IMO.

Most sites (and Apple, of course) will refer you to iTunes smart playlist capability for the kind of rotation you're looking for. For example, Lifehacker just put up examples of their favorite smart playlists:

Same. Giving my phone to Apple and being left with nothing in the interim never sat right with me and was one of the reasons I was going to pass on the iPhone altogether. The battery is only 40 bucks too.

Yeah, I jailbroke it and put ToDoList on. It's ok. I still miss ListPro from WM a bit, being able to make trees of tasks and all that, but it's no big deal. The Calendar/ToDoList combo will do just fine until the SDK or some better app hits. If it doesn't show up I'll just have to program it myself :lol

The jailbreaking turned off my YouTube for some reason. They'll probably have a fix for that soon though.

Because I miss being able to toy with my phone. Sure--we might have an official SDK soon (there was a rumor it was being pushed back, though)--but even if things go haywire and I want to go back, it's always a restore away.

All a SDD disk is a peice of hardware. Technically it's no different than swapping the hard drive in any CE device. Same goes for the battery. Unless Apple is stupid enough to use a different interface for each revision of the phone, upgrading things like disk storage and getting a replacement battery should be relatively simple.

It's not a disk. It's a chip soldered to the mainboard.

Tell iTunes which folder the photo's you want are, and it will sync the folder.

Flash memory is NOT the same has a hard drive, and as has already been noted, it's soldered right onto the board. It's no where near the same as swapping out a a hard drive. I also happen to work IT, and have done so for 10+ years, so I probably not only know what I'm talking about, but I probably know more than you do as well. Like I said earlier, what other device lets you swamp out the flash drive? It's common as hell in hard drive based devices, but flash, not so much.

On the subject of swapping the SSD; as KFJ said, it is part of the logic board. However, you could replace the whole board... ifixit just added 16GB replacements for 299. That's way too high a price to be worth it when you could easily get over $200 for your 8GB and pay less on the difference, but if such a product is available at all, it probably means that eventually those prices will come down.

They also sell replacement batteries, and while so far they only have "stock" batteries, I'm willing to bet that means there will be after market "upgrade" batteries at some point.

It's easy to create your own if you have an audio editing tool. There are plenty around that you can download for free. On the Mac I just use Garage Band. I know some PC users have used Audacity successfully. Edit the clip of your MP3 file down to 30 seconds or so, and then follow the steps out lined here.

Finally!!!! I'm going to get my iPhone fixed!!!! I posted months back when I dropped and cracked it at a party but it worked perfectly fine. Later though by December, the reception quality dropped significantly, and a couple weeks ago the top half of the screen stopped working!!! Over time I tried to get it repaired without paying the insane service price of 250 bucks but they denied every time even with heated arguments! So yeah, now I have to get it fixed so I had to my put my PS3 on Ebay to get the money which will come and I'm going to go to the Apple store right away get it fixed(btw do they usually just replace glass, switch it for a new phone, or what? Mine is in pretty bad shape so... yeah, i hope they replace ) and get a case.

Finally I got a lot of applications on my iPhone, but can someone tell me, why some of them doesn't work?

I get them installed and they're at the menu, but when I enter then, they just quit again. I talk about apps such as smsd, customization and such - while iPhysics screen is blinking all the time when I play it, how come? hmm =/
