Barely a day after owning the 20GB, the thing just froze while I was listening to music. Pressing/holding the menu button and the Pause/Play buttons and the screen is still displays the song information of the song I was listening to. :(

Anyone encounter this before? I don't wanna drive 30 miles to return the thing to Fry's. :(

Press and hold PLAY, then MENU, and hold...... (or the other way around)

It can be tricky, but this happened to me once or twice but I figured it out.

What do you want to do? Reset the iPod or go into diagnostic? To reset: hold Play and menu down with the hold OFF.

To diagnostic: Press and hold play and menu -- as soon as the iPod resets itself press and hold Rew, FF and the center button for about 5 seconds and let go.

I reset it while it's plugged into power. Works everytime. If not just let the juice run out.

My iPod is doing that everytime, and my PC is having problems when I plug it in, to the point where iTunes won't recognize it anymore. I am taking it into the apple store tomorrow for repairs.

I shoulda just got a hi-md.

My Apples currently being repaired...FOR FREE! =D

My cousin is a Belkin rep over at Comp USA on 54th or 64th (it's the countries #1 Comp USA or some such) and he works with an Apple rep who's going to take care of my iPod tomorrow. I handed it over to him; he says the guy knows all about iPods. Hopefully it's restored to perfect working order. =D

It's odd... I just did a search on iPod and quite a few help threads came up. The fact I find out my brother's iPod was in the repair shop, and the various complaints on other message boards... yeesh, the iPod's sure got some quality issues. Normally, I'd just choose another brand, but the iPod's storage space and ease of use is just to irresistable. =/

There's plenty of players out there with comparable storage, and most of them rip off the iPod's interface/controls. The Dell DJs are pretty nice, and quite inexpensive compared to the iPod as well. It's hard to beat the iPod in terms of size, weight, and aesthetic appeal though.

PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS oh god i am drowning in them
I had my iPod freeze once, I reinstalled the software, updated, re-ripped one CD that had some smudges on it (cleaned it first) and haven't had an issue since.

Well, good news. Apparently, letting the battery run out allows for the unit to be restored. Now it's working like a charm again. Thanks everyone.
