Ho-lee shit.

I talked to her once, a long time ago, when she first published Nanking. She was at my school and had a panel/debate with a professor of mine. That's really terrible.

I just read that book! What a great piece of work! Being a Japanese history major it really fills in some of the voids left out of other, more pro-Japanese, books.. helped complete the WWII picture for me... damn... all I can say... God rest her beautiful soul...

That's terrible. The Rape of Nanking is an outstanding piece of journalism. To kill yourself at 34 with a two-year-old child? She must have been in incredible despair. Very sad.

I am really dishearten by this news. I had heard of her other work about the fight in the PI between the Japanese and the Americans and was really looking forward to it. On Nov 10th the world lost a person who was willing to teach us what many simply didn't want to touch or at time admit...

This is just terrible. I've read Rape of Naking and it was a wonderful (if a book about such evil acts could be called such) and eye-opening book. It let me in on a side of history that's not talked about much, not even in Japan itself. Her next book sounded promising as well. I wonder why she was depressed to such an extent. A great history writer has been lost today. :(

Wow, that's terrible. The Rape of Nanking was one of the most touching and deep books I've ever read. The truth of what happened before/during WWII to the Chinese people is enough to change a person. God bless her, she spoke out when nobody else wanted to tell what really happened.
