If they're working in a watch, it's a much more iterative step towards wearable computing than glasses. You can "escape" a watch or a smartphone if you wish... it's not quite as simple with an interface that's an inch away from your eye. If it becomes a battle between Google Glass vs iWatch, I suspect iWatch will win.

I hope not. A watch would have the same limitations that all our current devices have.

It's impressiv tech. But it's horrible to think of lots of people using it. Just the thought of peope talking to their glasses is too ridiculous to even consider. Imagine all these people giving vocal instructions to their glasses in public. To me that sounds like hell on earth.

Google is already on a lot of privacy watchdogs' hit lists.

They'll let Google work out the logistical kinks, get the product to market (at an elevated price point) - then step in with a worse version of the same product, win heaps of awards, then have every electronics producer in the game start making the next generation.

Google is always being accused of invading user privacy, being one of the largest companies in the world with an amazing amount of data will do this, putting web connected cameras on its customers will do nothing to help this. Also, people are paranoid.

This. I tend to use Siri in the car. It feels...weird...in a public setting. I've never used a Bluetooth headset in public, either.

This is why Apple is going to make a watch. It's far easier to get the mainstream on board. There's no cultural friction like there will be with selling a HUD.

If cameras aren't allowed, you will be told to put it away, just like you do with your mobile devices today. Its a pair of glasses, not a permanent attachment to your head.

What about those of us with prescription glasses where putting it away isn't really an option? Even if the camera is detachable that's still a pain.

That's right. I think the wrist-worn display is multitudes more useful in the real world.
"Smart"watches like the Pebble and the Sony ones are generally a step in the right direction, but we need a big, influential company like Google or Apple to take these ideas and turn them into something huge, ushering in a whole new category of products.
