Is Berserk getting a US release on the PS2?

It´s really a very bad game , only worth it if you are a huge fan of the manga . Sure you can play the tomes 22 to 27 of the manga , but the game is horrible .

Replay the Dreamcast one if you want a good Berserk game .Sure you can fight agains Slan , Zodd or Grunbeld but the rest of the game is trash .

If you read spanish I made a review of this game , enjoy .

Berserk

I was anticipating it's release in NA for a long time.. but it's doubtful it'll see a release over here any time soon. I don't hear much about it anymore either.

Being a big fan of the manga and anime, I was really hoping that it would get a NA release, too. Sorry to hear that the gameplay sucks. Care to go into the problems a little more?

it's a good game, a little short, but the 100 man slayer bonus mode is good. I'd import if I were you, the game is in japanese, of course, but if you read the manga you'll understand it easely (it goes until volume 27 I think, so the dark horse release won't be enough) and you'd need a faq to know how to raise your stats

Berserk

What?! the game is fantastic

Well , is not fun to defeat infinite enemies , always the same class of troll for about 20 minutes in every spot . Run from place A to B because the enemieskeep coming and then reach place B to again cut enemies , the same kind of enemies for about other 20 minutes .

But the scenes , counters or revesals are really awesome , and the boss fights are wonderful . The rest of the game is trash .

You just described the DC game....

its different from the DC game in the way that the levels are deisgned.

hte new one has big open levels and you dont have to worry about your sword hitting a wall.

the environments are totally boring and the game is very very dull because of it.

surprise sp0rsk champion of the mediocre (aka a Killer 7 fan) does not like a quality game like Berserk.

If you are a fan of the anime you'll like the game. I don't believe we will see a US release. IIRC it was at E304 but not E305, methinks it has been passed on.

Im a huge Berserk Fan and its pretty much true the actual game is dull and repetitive. The cutscenes rock tho :D

I always assumed we weren't going to get it because isn't there a pretty damn decent chunk of story that takes place after after the anime ends (Volume 13 or so of the manga?), and before this game begins (22?). You wouldn't know what the FUCK was going on unless you'd read the manga, or unless they really minimized about any plot aspects in the game.

I watched the anime and played the original dreamcast game. I read the manga whenever its released. I modded my ps2 and beat the import. Yes, I'm a fan, but I strive to limit control my bias.

The game's level design is horrible. Probably some of the worst I've seen in a PS2 game in quite some time. The level design also has an impact on the gameplay which is extremely redundant on its own. Actually in retrospect, I think the level design made the gameplay really seem worse than it actually was.

Gameplay is really no different from the first Berserk DC game or any Dynasty Warriors style game. You hack and slash enemies that are nearly infinite in spawn until you A) reach a boss B) reach a goal or C) reach a puzzle (rarely seen). While you do this Gutts or one of Gutts' supporting characters is screaming away in awe or terror. Sort of like Drakengard's dragon droaned on while Caim slaughtered thousands. BTW Berserk is like Drag-on Dragoon/Drakengard albeit without the Dragon and fat combative babies which fall from the sky.
Unlike Drakengard, you are usually too preoccupied with your sword play to really pay attention. Yukes definately applied the bells and whistle's the use and application of Gutts' sword. There is a variety of moves, counters, and reversals at your disposal. Different ones for each individual enemy and boss. Cool and noteworthy, but not worth 50 dollars.

Berserk is a real treat for fans. Gutts and his sword never looked so good outside of the manga or TV show. Outside of rumors for a animated sequel, the CG in the game is as close as anime fans will get to more Berserk anime. The man behind the series' music also returned and lent his talents to the opening and ending score of the game. I rather enjoyed those too, especially the opening. I also thought the PS2 game transcended the DC game overall. Be it not by much. The DC game was no gem by any means.

Unfortunately everything but Gutts and the more popular bosses gets the shaft in the visual and animation department. The CG sequences aren't bad, but they are by no means Square Enix quality.

Non-Berserk fans will definately pass on the PS2 game. Fans short of the hardcore breed will probably pass on it as well. I'm a big fan of Berserk and even I wouldn't buy it, even in an attempt to support the product line on this side of the pond. At least until it dropped to bargin bin price. Of course I can say that now with hindsight.

Though I must say, standing in the snow with a 7 foot sword slaying trolls while accumlating a growing coat of blood is fun for about 15 minutes.

The Dreamcast game didnt have infinite enemies like this . Actually you can kill them all and then advance . In PS2 Berserk you NEVER kill them all so you just must run avoid most of them . BIG diferrence in therms of fun , and I played both games, I have seen the anime series and I have read all 29 volumes of the manga . And the only worth of the game are some final battles and see Gatsu with the Berserk armour .

1) no, it's not coming out here
2) the game is repetitive as hell, and honestly not worth the trouble of importing

the games intro fmv is the best part about it.

Yeah , the intro from Hajime Hirasawa is just breathtaking . Fights against Zood , Slanm or Grundbeld are also memorable . Rest of the game is trash .

I imported it, but ít's not a great game. I enjoyed Super Dimensional Fortress Macross more, always wondered why that one wasn't released outside Japan...

A little company called Harmony Gold is probably why.

The amount of blood and gore greatly captures the manga feeling. Personally I enjoyed the game and would recommend importing it (if you're Berserk fan).

P.S. The new Berserk manga chapter is out today, looks like we'll be seeing lots of action in upcoming chapters, yay!
