Assholes I can't even cancel right now because the subscriptions info is not loading. People must be cancelling in droves.

Edit - I got through. Felt like I got in a GPU order on launch it was so hard to fucking cancel. Still have a year but I wanted to send a message.

Customers will still come out ahead.

Even with this hike. Trust me on this.
I don't know man,

They are being outsold 10:1 in hardware and their consoles are disappearing from shelves because nobody wants them

What consumers are you talking about, exactly???

They are doing poorly but surely not zero.

Of course, it will survive. This is just the way to milk the most loyal/biggest users. I won't be using it anymore, and I'm sure a ton of people will be the same. At that price though it is highly likely to be very profitable, even just from idiots who forget to cancel their subscription. Microsoft is slowly working its way towards becoming a fully third-party publisher, even if they don't realize it yet.

I think MS is going to keep jacking up prices to get people off the day one tier, because they realize it's a mistake. Eventually they'll kill it. I would not be surprised to see price hikes for Ultimate only to reflect this. If anything they will keep the other tiers artificially low.

I mean, all I will do is just selectively subscribe to gamepass when I don't have anything big to play and a few games have released on GamePass.

In other words, subscribe a month at a time to kill some time between big releases and play a few games I would not otherwise go out and purchase.

Something people don't like to look at too closely is that the target consumer market has been shifting to the top 10-20% of earners. They are going where the money is, so to speak.

Whether this will work in the gaming market is up in the air, but there is such a divide in the US that we have a large chunk of the population that simply can't afford things and a smaller but still significant slice that would not even sneeze at a $10 price increase.

Sony jacked PS Plus prices to the moon and hit record profits and revenue despite losing probably 2 billion dollars and an entire generation of nearly every 1st party studios' time on canceled GAAS. These services are clearly cash printing free money machines and MS's multi-million dollar multi-ivy-league bean counters have assessed they'll make more money than they'll lose in cancelations.

All my Xbox bros are cancelling. It's dead.

Same. My phone was blowing up with group texts from my Xbox friends livid and showing off their cancellation screens. Or complaining that they can't get through to cancel because the site is FUBAR. Really makes me wish Helldivers 2 and Borderlands 4 had cross-progression because I only bought them on Xbox because that's where my friends were and I didn't need to resub to PS+ as I already had Game Pass. But with all of them cancelling, and the likelihood that I'm going to downgrade to Essential, I'd just as soon go back to PS+ and play over there. But I really don't want to start over from square one on either game.

I chose other in that I doubt MS will abandon it completely, but they will make changes such as Day 1 games once they see that Outer Worlds 2 and the next Call of Duty do nothing to move the needle.

I'm good for 2 more years, but I probably won't resub. I have 2 Xbox consoles (one for the wife), so I'll buy MP games there. Most of my gaming has switch to Nintendo lately, though, so I'm not worried now. If some kind of OEM device can play PC games too down the road, I might consider it along with a PC Game Pass sub, but for the most part, I've recognized Xbox is dead starting with "just 4 games."

I think they want it to fail so they can go back to selling games at full price.
My guess is that Phil was told to make Xbox profitable in every area or it's gone. Two console price increases in a short time followed by two Game Pass sub price increases along with the attempted $80 Outer Worlds 2 say this to me.

In Brazil, it's R$120 per month.
A new game, released at full price (without promotions), is R$400.

A year of Game Pass buys four games at launch.
It's ridiculous; only a lunatic idiot would subscribe to Game Pass at that price to rent games, as opposed to buying physical media, which can still be resold and traded in.

Taking promotions into account, I believe it's easy to buy at least 10 games in Brazil with a year of Game Pass.

Regular consumers(besides the 10% hardcore nerds(us)) buys an average of 8 games per gen. It doesn't worth and u can get any ms game with 50% off in 1 year.

They clearly aren't releasing a new console. I wish they'd just come out and say so. I know why they're not, but still.

I voted no, but think it'll survive longer than we think. It'll be 40 a month this time next year though.

It's also funny to say this is the "value console" of gaming now as well.

I think it's dead.

Mod Edit: Changed poll question to avoid confusion
Yeah you rise the price of a product/service in proportionally with its success. The Xbox hardware flops = they rise the prices. The Xbox Games flops = they rise the prices. Now the Gamepass is bombing (I never knew 1 PERSON (and I speak to many different gamers on a daily basis) who sub to GP more than 1 month... THEY DOUBLE THE PRICES IN LIKE A YEAR. At 30$ it has no future.

Honestly MS is in serious trouble. I have been with them since the OG and bought every single console at launch. I have always been one of their biggest defenders and always saw at least some silver lining to the overall strategy for the brand and studios. Today "I GOT NOTHING". This is the first time I have cancelled my sub with them and unless they change course they've lost me within their ecosystem. 3 others in my weekly gaming circle did the same.

I'll buy individual games and play Multiplayers on PC or Playstation (unless they price themselves out too).

The grim truth is that xbox and gamepass will be just fine, MS has bottomless pockets and CoD prints money for them no matter what they do with Xbox.

They will continue shutting down studios, increasing prices, and parading around the defiled corpse of Halo and Gears for years to come.

Xbox are the biggest joke/disgrace in the gaming industry. Phil spencer is the worst gaming CEO of all time and a walking embarrassment of a man who single handedly destroyed the xbox division with gamepass. Everyday he wakes up and looks in the mirror the only thing staring back at him is a clown because that's what he is and always will be for what he did to the xbox brand.
The alternative, to be fair, would be just like Hollywood, a nameless actors and actresses who could literally turn the table and change our lives. Unfortunately, the modern industry can't afford to make that at the scale of thousands small and big games productions, it's doable but money alone can't solve the problem right now.

Missed that bump but I wouldn't consider it to the moon.

In reality and in practice PS+ has seen a 150%+ price hike as Sony also barred and discontinued retailer and third party cards within the past couple years. Retailers fairly regularly sold annual cards at 50% discounts. Lot of people were pay $30/yr for essential and $60 for premium. Even Sony themselves sold at those prices during the big Holiday sales. Now they limit Holiday sales to new subs and upgrades only, and the discount is only like 25%. That is where the to the moon qualification comes from. Massive price hike in practice.

I'm only subbing to PC Gamepass. I left Ultimate back in 2023.
I don't need the Cloud. Nor do I need an xbox console

I assume that the new handheld fullscreen experience on the ROG is considered PC gamepass???
im trying to figure out what i lose downgrading from ult to prem. right now im just playing rematch and mechwarrior 5

Maybe not.

Most people I know mainly uses gamepass to play 2 or 4 games per year.... Now it's cheaper to just buy those games than pay MS to rent them, specially for those on pc.

Xbox is dead and now gamepass is expensive....

Seems like a stretch.
If that's to the moon, then this would be to a whole new galaxy.
