Is it fair to say that 2023 will be one of the greatest years of gaming?

too early to judge. 2007 can't be matched. Plus the major titles that came out that year didn't really have many issues. I'm expecting a lot of titles in 2023 to have all sorts of problems.

Probably
Like. Noone knows what will really happen but it looks like studios have COVID-19 and remote work finally in check and they smoothed out remote production of games. So I don't expect so many delays
Just look at this
Microsoft: Forza Motorsport, Redfall, Starfield, ARA, Minecraft Legends, STALKER 2, Diablo IV and we still have no clue what they have for second half of 2023
Sony: Final Fantasy XVI, Final Fantasy VII Remake 2, Spider-Man 2,
Nintendo: BOTW 2 and God knows what else
Alan Wake II, Pragmata, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Dead Space Remake, Star Wars Jedi: Surivor, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, Street Fighter VI, Suicide Squad, The Wolf AMong Us 2, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

And I'm sure many more will be announced for 2023.

Lol I remember this thread for 2022 last year. Remember how zelda, ffxvi, god of war ragnarok, elden ring, starfield, horizon fw was slated for 2022. Only 2/6 have a release date in 2022 currently.

Definitely a good-looking list. But I´m sure some of those titles get delayed as the year moves on.

Yeah. That's for sure. I think that games like Spider-Man 2, FF VII Remake 2, Pragmata, Alan Wake 2 or Dragon Age could be delayed but I'm pretty certain that we will get 90% from that list in 2023. Because many of those games have either confirmed release date or they are in polishing stage (FM, Redfall, Starfield, Diablo IV, FF XVI, BOTW, RESI 4, Dead Space, Suicide Squad etc.) so I don't think many delays are expected.

And since we will have no COD in 2023, I expect many companies won't be afraid to put out their games in october/november window. Unless GTA VI releases in 2023 :messenger_grinning:

Even if some games get delayed 2023 will absolutely mop the floor with 2022. I think 2022 will only be remembered because of Elden Ring.

Insomniac are crazy with their output. If they manage (still highly doubt that) to launch Spider-Man next year, that would be already their third (if you count the Remaster of the first Spider-Man even 4th) title for the PS5. How is that even possible?

Yes, but im a bit unsure about sony using resources towards PSVR2 though, I think I would rather they do tv games instead with those resources.

I think more than ever there is a Chance for a small indie game to breakout.

Similar to Minecraft and Fortnite. But the window is closing fast.

Once those big guns start releas8ng you might have missed your opportunity.

Cant be any worse then 2021 and 2022 , the worst yrs of gaming ever, think i could buy a ps5 today and feel ive not missed out on anything big, in 30yrs plus of gaming this has to be the worst start to a new consoles life ive ever seen. Sony wheres the games ?

Wasn't rift apart done by a seperate team? So the spider man team would of had 3yrs come fall 2023.

There is no denying that they have great production capabilities, but I think that they were lucky, because when pandemic hits both Miles Morales and Rift Apart were near end of production. And from what we know, games that were hit hardest by pandemic were the games that was in middle of production when you need all your mocap and stuff done. So I for sure expect that development of Spider-Man 2 was slowed due to pandemic.

Well it certainly looks like a great year if we take at face value the games that are slated for 2023 without any delay. However reality has shown us that delays are not only likely, but commonplace in the gaming industry. There is a great chance that many 2023 games, especially those without set release dates, could be delayed well into 2024.

Lets take a look at what I have on my personal radar for 2023:

Dead Space Remake
Zelda BOTW2
Resident Evil 4 Remake
Hollow Knight Silksong
Starfield
Forza Motorsport
Diablo IV
Alan Wake 2
Final Fantasy 16
Black Myth: Wukong
Pragmata
STALKER 2
Star Wars Jedi Survivor
Naughty Dog Multiplayer Project
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Looks pretty good. Some of it might be delayed, but some of them already have. So yeah the lower half of my list might fall into 2024. I probably forgot a few games here and there and there will be some announcements for 2023 games.
I've a pretty good feeling about 2023, but I do for most years and there will be games that fall short on expectation.

Op must be pretty young since 1998 is not mentioned.

Edit: were mistaken OPs post as the first post on page 2 chill lol.

No way.

1998:

Zelda Ocarina of Time
Half-Life
Metal Gear Solid
Tekken 3
Resident Evil 2
Starcraft
Baldurs Gate
Unreal
Thief
Grim Fandango

Even if all those expected 2023 games are good it won't come anywhere close. You really think we're gonna have like 10 instant classics in 2023? Probably never happening again.

Edit: my bad, you said "one of the greatest". It's possible I guess, needs a lot of really good unannounced stuff too though.

Damn, 2023 is stacked. Some of those games will likely get moved to 2024 though.

In 2021 this exact thing was said for 2022 too.

But sure, if the stars align then 2023 will most definitely be a great year.

only games i plan on getting next year are BOTW, Starfield, Diablo IV, and Forza. I will get FFVII Rebirth but not in 2023. I'll wait to whenever it comes to PC.

I will play the shit out of BOTW2 and Forza. I hope Starfield and Diablo are good but they could suck.

Literally nothing else in 2023 im interested in.

Waiting for Starfield and with Todd's track record, the game will be a shitshow in 2023.
-> My hypelevel for 2023 is very low.

These threads are based on PR promises. Not what is actually released.

I will say that PS5 had the best start to a generation up I can remember in gaming. Mainly because I could buy all the games I wanted.

Miles
Demon souls
Ratchet
LBP
Returnal
HZD
Etc etc.

What I can't and refuse to do is listen to any execs promises about a game, which include podcasts, interviews, CGI trailers, meaningless PR, Concept art, or paid shilling from known shills on social media. And then turn around and say to myself...

"This Particular year is going to be the best year in gaming, ever!!!" Only to be left like

When the games when finally shown don't match one iota of the astro turfing that came before it.

I'm We're to wise to how this industry manoeuvres to fall for that bs year in year out. Hype only when I've seen games running on my platform of choice where I can assess and do the necessary due diligence. Prove it's the best year by releasing quality games. I'm too allergic to PR promises.

Not yet. Only promises and even these promises do not equate to 1997,1997,2003,2004,2007 and the best year 2011. To name a few of 2011:

Dark Souls
Skyrim
Portal 2
Saints Row 3
Uncharted 3
Gears of war3
Battlefield 3
Modern Warfare 3
Arkham City
Binding of isaac
Dead Space 2
Skyward Sword
Witcher 2
Deus Ex Human Revolution
L.A Noire
Super Mario 3d land
Minecraft
Bastion
Crysis 2
Mortal Kombat revival
Infamous 2
Space Marine
Rage (!!!)
Shadows of the Damned
Killzone 3
Mario Kart 7
Bulletstorm
Dead Island
Little big planet 2
Rayman Oriins
Shadow of the colossus remaster and other remasters

This is just a few. And as far as I remember, every year up to 2011-2013, slowing down with 2013 was like that.
are you fucking kiddding me ?!
and these are some of the best games ever in here.

What about 2022?
Horizon FW - Not as good as most of these games above.
Elden Ring
Dying light 2? meh
gt7?
sifu
Ghostwire tokyo

I am not saying gaming is dying because quality games do come out but it's so slow and dev time takes so long

You mean 2024 right? Because half of those games announced for next year will be moved to 2024, I guarantee it.

From the ones I acutally expect to release next year I'm only interested in
  1. Dead Space Remake
  2. RE4 Remake
  3. Starfield
  4. Final Fantasy XVI
The ones I fully expect to not make it as Diablo 4, FFVII Rebirth, Star Wars Jedi Survivor and Alan Wake 2,

It will be good. 2022 is good for me as well. Im getting Xenoblade 3(GOTY), Atomic Heart, Scorn, Trails From Zero, Soul Hackers 2, Crisis Core Remake, GOW2, and last but not least The Callisto Protocol.
