Is it fair to say that 2023 will be one of the greatest years of gaming?

If you count Callisto Protocol and God of War Ragnarok for 2022. Adding to great games like Elden Ring, HFW, GT7, etc.
I actually think 2022 might end up being a better year if a few 2023 games get delayed.

Yep, Spider-man is the only Sony game with a release window (2023) other than God of War Ragnarok and TLoU Part I.

It's a really weird situation where Sony has more studios than ever and less games announced than ever as well. No lack of big moneyhats this gen tho.
Oh wow, that's it that's announced from Sony at the moment?

Probably no chance of Wolverine releasing next year, I'd guess. They will want to space out their Marvel offerings. So what else is possibly in the pipeline from Sony in 2023? Hopefully this alleged State of Play that's upcoming won't be strictly limited to GOW2 but will give more details on upcoming first party games.

Factions is a good bet, but it's hard to predict since Sony just announce a game last week that will release in early September (TLoU Part I), that's not something I remember they ever doing in the past, outside of maybe console launches.

I feel like Sony completely changed their marketing strategy this gen, no more greatness await and focusing on what will release far in the future, they seem to focus all their marketing efforts on the next upcoming thing and mostly when it's really close to release. I'm not sure it's a good strategy, hype sells as we've seen with game like Cyberpunk.

Microsoft: Avowed, Contraband, Hellblade 2
Sony: The Last of Us Multiplayer, various VR games to support PSVR2 launch
Nintendo: Metroid Prime 4, Pikmin 4
Third-Party: Dragon's Dogma 2, KOTOR remake, Space Marine 2, Assassin's Creed Rift, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Wonder Woman
Ehh
I really doubt TLOU MP will be released next year. Druckmann said that it will be unveiled next year. Dragon's Dogma 2 for sure won't be out in 2023 and I doubt Kotor Remake will be either. Avatar is supposed to be out this year and Wonder Woman is TBD.

What prevents a game to be unveiled and released in the same year? Besides, it's a live service game, not a retail game. It's not like they have to perfect it in the same way as they do with their single player releases, it'll be an ongoing process for years.

Dragon's Dogma 2 could be released in late 2023 or early 2024. The Capcom and Nvidia leaks originally had it for late 2022, that's obviously not the case anymore but it's not that far off either.

Kotor Remake remains to be seen, but there have been rumors for years.

Wonder Woman is also very nebulous, but it's been ages since their last game. If it targeted a late 2023 launch, it would be six years after Middle-earth: Shadow of War. It's not inconceivable.

I really doubt Avatar could make a 2022 release given that they have shown exactly nothing. At best it's coming in the first half of 2023.

With PlayStation any year is a good year.

Will Knack 3 release on 2023? Exactly.

For real, with the state of the world, don't expect anything until it releases. Who knows what shit can happen in some months

Here's a novel concept! Let's wait to judge games and the year's releases until after we actually PLAY THE GAMES!

I do not understand the fascination with proclaiming games to be GOTG before they even launch, and if you're expecting every "announced" game you've seen to actually launch in 2023, then you have not been paying attention to the industry.

Quite a contradiction
Ubisoft released a non-CGI trailer for Avatar - "they have shown exactly nothing" so it won't come out in 2022
TLOU MP/Dragon's Dogma 2 showed literally nothing - "what prevents a game to be unveiled and released in the same year?"

2022 is ending in six months. TLOU and Dragon's Dogma 2 could be unveiled in early 2023 and released in late 2023 with a far longer (8-10 months) span between the events.

Is it fair to say that we literally have this thread every single November, talking about the year ahead? LOL

Like, seriously. We always think the next year will be better than the current one.

No way.

1998:

Zelda Ocarina of Time
Half-Life
Metal Gear Solid
Tekken 3
Resident Evil 2
Starcraft
Baldurs Gate
Unreal
Thief
Grim Fandango

Even if all those expected 2023 games are good it won't come anywhere close. You really think we're gonna have like 10 instant classics in 2023? Probably never happening again.

Edit: my bad, you said "one of the greatest". It's possible I guess, needs a lot of really good unannounced stuff too though.
U forgot about tons of exceptional titles that came out this year, including Virtua Fighter 3tb and Sonic Adventure for dreamcast, SF3Alpha, Crash Bandicoot 3, Xenogears, Ridge Racer Type 4 for playstation,1080° Snownoarding and Banjo- Kazooie for n64, N4S3:Hot Pursuit(pc and playstation)- there are many more ofc but i just mentioned ones that are super wellknown and respected even by ppl who didnt play/dont like particular genre.
