Is it worth it to get a Vita?

It depends on what you want. None of us can really make the decision for you.

I got a Vita for a few reasons:

1) I'm a big PlayStation fan and loved the PSP.
2) My PSP was old and dying.
3) I have an hour+ commute back and forth from work, so I have a clear 2 hours to kill a day on the bus.
4) I was looking for a portable device, and smart phone gaming just wasn't doing it for me.

Personally, I think the Vita hardware is fantastic. It's comfortable, light, and the OS is really well done, with room for improvements (think of how bare bones the PS3 was when it first released, and where it's at now; I think the Vita has even more room for awesome improvements).

The system isn't even a year old yet, but it already boasts a rather solid line up of games, and there are a ton more on the way that look amazing (ie, Retro City Rampage, Guacamelee, Ragnarok Odyssey, PlayStation All Stars, LBP, etc).

At the end of the day, I don't care about sales statistics. The software is what matters, and the Vita has that. The user base will grow, as it did for every one of the previous PlayStation platforms released.

It is a dedicated gaming handheld, and that's exactly what I was looking for, with a few multi-media bells and whistles. It was designed to be a "gamer's handheld," and it is. Much like the 3DS. Smart phones, in my opinion, are a poor substitute for a true dedicated gaming platform. I think there's room for devices like the 3DS, Vita, and smart phones to coexist, but I do my gaming on the go on my Vita (I don't own a DS or 3DS, and my smart phone is just that: a phone).

Isn't that what the color-something-something option in the emulator's menu for, i.e. compensating for the OLED's strong color saturation and contrast?

I know it works for regular colors, I'm not sure about blacks though.

Holy crap, I forgot all about that. I'll have to mess around with those options and see what happens.

I don't believe changing the color space reduces the black levels, it just limits the contrast and range of the colors to make them look closer to how they appear on the PSP's screen. Wild guess though!

And if he's having a problem with Gravity Rush, there isn't much of a solution. I've found that lowering the brightness reduces the contrast a bit, but not enough. I'm actually finding the screen's contrast too much myself.

color space I believe

it makes stuff look shitty though

No, I owned one with 6 games, none of the games were really amazing, the system itself is brilliant and trumps the 3ds in all ways, but considering how badly it's selling and the uncertain future, i'd wait a bit.

Yes I think there's better games for it than there is for 3ds but that's debatable.

I would definitely recommend one.

Best handheld hardware that had ever been created.

with games like:
Gravity Rush
Uncharted golden abyss
Mutant blob attacks
Stars dust delta
wipeout 2048

Quality ports like:
Mortal kombat
UMvC3

upcoming games like:

Soul sacrifice
Call if duty black ops declassified
assassin's creed 3 liberation
Final fantasy 10
phantasy star online 2

Its perfect for me. Haven't touched my 3ds since i got it. if more than two games on that list interest you and you have the cash for than go for it. If not than no

For now, probably no. I have not been touching my Vita for at least a month before Gravity Rush and MGS HD collection was released last few weeks.

The game library is quite low for the PS Vita now, you might want to consider getting it at the end of this year where Persona 4 Golden, COD and ACIII releases. Looking forward to more games being released next year for the PS Vita though.

Absolutely. It’s the best handheld I’ve owned and one of the best put together consoles ever. It's pretty much perfect....

It also helps that it's got a great line up of games already, and Gravity Rush is the best game this year. Go and get one!

Just wait for the inevitable price drop bomba.

Sure the library sucks now but take a look at the DS and PSP from last generation. It's bound to get a decent library eventually....
well let's hope it does

For full price I wouldnt. After the shit-tastic E3 I wasn't planning on buying one for a long time but I got it dirt cheap on sale so I jumped on it. $169 and I wouldn't have paid a cent more. Have had it for a week and it's pretty good. Refuse to re-buy all my UMD's in digital form. Keep my PSP 2000 around for those. So I don't have much to play on this vita right now but I wasn't in any rush to play anything so I can wait for a bit of a catalog to form here.

I bought the Vita mainly for a console quality portable Fifa game.

could've basically considered it my Fifa machine....but of course got other Vita games for it as well, and I like playing my minis on it and PSP games I've never played before (which are pretty cheap).

Have you gone through all of PSP's software (Kingdom Hearts)? I've never owned a PSP, so this is like all new for me.

but like another person brought up, I believe the Vita is going to get a $50 drop...so if there are no games that interest you right now...wait it out a bit.

but if you think about it, these sales they have now are basically like the deal they will have later this year.

you get $50+ giftcard that you can use on a game or memory card....for $250.
but later this year, you get a free bundled game worth about $40, for the same $250.

I bought one on Best Buy's deal where you get $60 gift card (still going on until 7/7 I believe), plus I had $50 of trade-in credit there. I really wanted to play Gravity Rush and have a portable version of Dynasty Warriors (don't laugh!). The fact that 90% of my PSP library is digital helped too (VC2 and Jeanne d'Arc don't officially work but if you transfer them via a PS3 they work fine). I'm also greatly looking forward to Persona 4 Golden next month, so I don't regret my purchase. It really is a nice, nifty piece of hardware. The problem is, after the P4G release, it's got what? Nothing but crickets.

Go back and start picking up PSP games that you missed the first time. I'm playing Crimson Gem Saga right now and love it! :D

No, and I love my Vita and don't regret buying it. But the severe lack of games and really anything being announced or releasing in the US is beyond disturbing. I think even Nintendo was in panic mode at this point.

I want psx compatibility first. Different colors would be nice. I'll probably just pick up the white one when ys drops.

Oh and lol @ a system selling badly effecting if you buy one. Only on GAF would you see such stupidity. If you see some games you like buy the system.

Some people are more careful with their money than others. There might even be people who look at a new system and ask themselves, "Is this going to give me a good bunch of games every year for at least 4 years?" If the answer is no they might even hold off on spending the money.

You are right, though. People who think like that are stupid.

There´s no response like "NO!" or "OF COURSE!" for this question, and you should not trust people on that, most opinions in this threads are biased for one reason or another, the hardware is really great but the thing that matters in the end are the games, you just need to think if there are enough games that you like, and that´s all, if you find enough appeal in them, go on, if you think that they are not worth the investment, dont do it.

It´s all up to you.

For one game is not worth it. Just wait out and by the time more games that you like come out for the price will most than likely drop.

Well...I was intended to buy a Vita from a couple months ago.
I had the money, but unfortunately I have to use that money to other things. And then, they announced a White PSVita bundle with Assassin's Creed Liberation and memory card. So yeah, maybe I'll wait for that one...or maybe for a better deal?

this. If you didn't pick at launch though, it means that you were not in a hurry or very interested in launch software so i'd wait at least until fall in case a price drop or some interesting bundles happen

It depends. How many VITA games are you currently interested in?
Do you have a PSP? If the anwser is no, there are lots of games you can play. (I did the same with the 3DS. I never had a NDS, so bought a 3DS, and am now playing many quality NDS games. I have only one actual 3DS game at the moment.) Are you interested in playing PS1 classics on a portable device? It seems like that it will be possible soon.

Ask yourself these questions, and then you will know if it's worth it for you.

Yes its worth it. The 3DS might have a better lineup but remember that PSV lineup is much much better than 3DS lineup for the same first months.

For me its worth it. I have played a bunch of games. I am still in the middle of Trails in the sky and have to continue with Unit 13 and Everybody's Golf.

Although i never got these kinds of threads. Can't you decide for yourself if it has games you want? Everybody's taste is subjective.

This.

PSV is fully worth every single dollar they are asking.

Thats amazing, if such an app gets released many people would pay for that.

It's only Remote Desktop. He has a VLC-type app running via the PS Suite, and is controlling his PC remotely. Still cool, but not what the poster/video creator is implying.

As for the OP's question - my wife and I each own a Vita, and we're both very happy with them. The library feels small, but I think this is more an issue of simply being hungry for more quality games - its easily the highest quality dedicated gaming handheld I've ever used, and I wish I had more reasons to use it.

I think at this point everyone who wants a Vita is waiting for the price drop and the second big wave of titles this Christmas. Everyone knows the price drop coming despite Sony's persistent denials because the Vita is getting slaughtered by the 3DS at their respective price points.

I actually just bought a new laptop from Sony because of the ongoing promotion where they were offering a free PS3 or Vita. I already have a PS3 but I took the free PS3 anyways because I could sell it for $250 and get an effective $250 discount on the laptop. Quite frankly, I didn't even want the Vita for free because I knew I would still have to buy a stupidly overpriced proprietary memory card before I could buy a game for it. Yeah, Sony offered me a free Vita and I still turned them down. Sony am cry.

Dolan pls

On topic: Yes if you want to grow the install base and make our (the Vita owners) life easier. No if you can't find more than 5 games that interest you.

I bought one two months ago and I haven't regretted it one bit. I think it's awesome.

But if you feel like there are no games on it you want, then don't.

It's pretty simple common sense stuff. You expect GAF to tell you what groceries to buy and what other shit you need in your life too?

There's like a thread like this every week lately. o_O

I just recently got one. Would I recommend others to get one right now? No. Dont get me wrong, it is a wonderful system and has MAD potential. I just think that there are better deals coming and it is best for a more robust library of games/support to be evident before investing in the system.

A lot of vita owners will defend the current library, maybe those games are for you, maybe they arent and thats what you can base your decision off of.

As said, depends on you.

I am getting one as my lifestyle doesn't suit PC / Console gaming anymore, I have less time and can't hog the TV all night. Portable gaming allows me to sit and play while my GF watches My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding without me having to watch it / listen but I am still in the room.

Tablet / Phone / Laptop / Vita are all I need these days.

Yup, this is my lifestyle as well, although I do have to give the wife the occasional look so I acknowledge her in the room with me.

If you believe Vita is worth the 250 tag now considering its existing library, sure. If not, wait for the holidays for bundles and/or price cut. I think the existing library is just fine.

I think it is a worthy console purchase. IMHO, it is the best dedicated gaming handheld for me. Beautiful, gorgeous screen. Awesome DPad, twin analog sticks (gyro aiming is a good complement to the right analog stick, but not a replacement IMHO), twin touch panels, a very very snappy, featured, and versatile OS, tons of HW features (60/120 Hz cameras, gyroscopes, accelerometers, digital compass, etc... and a powerful enough CPU to take advantage of them: see Magnat AR tech demos). The improved online and communication features (cross game chat, custom soundtracks, etc...) do not hurt either.
Software wise: there are already lots of games (PSP games included, which look and play very well on PS Vita) for me on the system: Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush, Rayman Origins, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, Escape Plan, and Frobisher Says just to cite the one I own and just to cite PS Vita games. There are many more for you to choose.

Also, more often than not I am not close to the TV with the PS3 on it, so a great portable system like PS Vita gets even more interesting for me.

BTW, I am not dissing the 3DS, as some software titles for it (Zelda: OoT remake and SM3DL to name two of them... but then there are VC titles too) do justify its purchase. Being an early adopter stung a bit, but overall I do enjoy gaming with it.
