Is Judge Judy the most grossly overpaid person on the planet?

Pretty much. I wouldn't call her an idiot, but she definitely has a penchant for sizing up people and making up her mind before all the facts come out. She's often mean for absolutely no reason.

Not for no reason. She still has to deliver a TV show and deliver entertainment.

Nobody will watch a real life small claims proceeding. It's rote and boring shit.

If I was either a plaintiff or a defendant, I wouldn't want my dirty laundry aired out in front of 10 million viewers. I'm sure the people who agree to the proceedings know what they're in for.

But the point is where do you want that money to go instead? Back to the studios? To the advertisers? Where? It's coming in because of the amount of viewers she attracts, so do you want the execs and studios to take more? Someone is going to get rich off the show, so why not her?

Rewarding talent is not a bad thing, and certainly better than the alternative.

I don't know, maybe reward the rest of the staff who work on the show? But seriously enough people watch this drivel to actually garner that kind of money for her and still make a hefty profit?

Yea back to the studios would be the best idea imo. But then again I'm a democratic socialist living In the US. So I'm hardly the one to comment here.

Grossly overpaid based on what? The national average, sure. But on her contribution to the revenue for the production company or network? Absolutely not. Judge Judy is the highest rated daytime TV show in the US, and sold worldwide.

It's the same reason the cast of Friends or 2½ Men earned so much per episode. The shows they were a core part of made hundreds of millions of dollars to the entities who produced it.

It sounds like you just begrudge the success of the show. Or that you think that there should be an earning cap on individuals, regardless of how much revenue they personally produce.

I understand what he's saying, it's a response based on the idea that there are people with 'harder' jobs out there that are being paid much (much) less. Everyone who says 'well she brings in heaps of revenue' are assigning the generation of revenue as the sole indicator for earning extreme wealth. Some people (including myself) don't work in industries that generate revenue and thus having that as the only indicator for higher pay doesn't seem 'fair'.

Except that she is. Because she gets paid that much.

I never realized so many people were so salty over Judge Judy. She's educated and entertaining. She's earned where she's at, haters.

The hell? Who said we were salty? Who said she's not educated, entertaining, etc.?

All we're saying is 900k a damn day is too much.

There are very few people who can do what she does well so she gets paid a lot. What's the problem? There is even a lot of competition in judge shows so it's not like she won a lottery.

She may be. 900k a day for abusing and exploiting poor people on tv is 900k too much.

She is gross and should probably be in jail.

Thanks to my thread a couple days ago, I now actually have the knowledge to answer this lol.
People are watching her.
Advertisers are paying to reach the people who are watching her.

If people stop watching her, the "problem" would go away.
As long as they are, and advertisers are paying to reach those people, the money is going to go somewhere.

Basically, see this thread from 2 days ago on the general subject.
Neat. Now my thread can be linked to others who are ignorant at economics.

She is mean to people for things that have nothing to do with the cases being investigated.

I don't like Judge Judy at all.

Boxer Floyd Mayweather earned more than $100m in the span of 12 months for only two fights, amounting to a grand total of 72 minutes. How's that for grossly overpayed? And here I thought boxing's popularity was waning.

No.

No, not even close. She uses a lifetime of rigorous qualification to craft a syndicated television show watched by millions that makes, apparently, billions. You could not do her job.

What does the guy say here? The only word I can understand is "earpiece".

judy asks the plaintiff to name some of the things that were in her purse that the defendant allegedly had taken (to better understand the monetary value of her claim against the defendant). One of them was an earpiece. The defendant said "there was no earpiece in there, ma'am." not only confirming that he did have her purse, but that it contained her wallet, its contents, a calculator, and various gift cards and deeds.

Meanwhile, Peter Dinklage's salary just doubled to $300,000 per episode for the coming season of GoT.

It seems very wrong for the cast of GoT to be making less than Judge Judy.

He's one of how many actors on that show who get paid? That show costs how much to make? Does the tiny slice of subscription dollars devoted to that show outweigh the 2 actor, tiny budget, advertising supported Judge Judy show?

Seems right to me. She clearly generates significantly more revenue than he does and if the money wasn't going to her it would just go to some CEO or executive somewhere.
