Is PC the best platform for eastern gaming

There a lot of Jrpgs that you can't play on console like Xenoblade Chronicles,
also true, i personally buy all for my switch.
but some people use emulator for that. i dont use emulator for switch, yet.
preservative purpose, later in the not so far future, we can also in PC via emulator. but well, i at least buy it on switch first because i like them and want to play on the first day as soon as possible.

but again, i have console and pc.

Apparently I have a collection at home that is not accessible to anyone else in the world, I didn't know...
Or did I miss something or Switch no longer considered a console?

It's the best platform for gaming. Period.

That comes at a cost.

Cost in many dimensions too, not just monetary.

And because of that its got as many drawbacks as advantages, so I'm not sure it qualifies as best frankly.

Especially with the insufferable supremacists within the community who somehow have conned themselves into thinking that they are a cut above every other community/consumer group.

Way more advantages than disadvantages if you're an enthusiastic

In my experience enthusiasts tend to be particularly myopic about the shortcomings. Take emulation for example; there is some brilliant tech out there, but if you happen to have the wrong version of the rom/image you'll run into problems. And then of course there's all the messing about with settings to optimize performance -often on a per game basis- , tweaking inputs so it feels comfortable running on an interface for which the game was never designed, etc.

The "best" result is almost invariably not the default. You have to work at it. Which is fine if you're into it, but if not... its a lot of hassle between you and the desired experience.

Power and versatility is great to be sure, but its a constant battle for convenience.

Ok I get that you like the convience aspect but just focus on games and access and not gripes.

Why not?

You can play way more games of each genre on pc then you can on console currently.
I mean if you include emulators maybe but if you include emulation of console games then the question is kind of pointless. There are some JRPG games that PC doesn't get at all, Fire emblem being an example. It gets most JRPGs late too.

All Fire emblem games are playable though and why is it pointless? You can play basically a remastered version of these games on pc through emulation.

Good luck emulating Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave on Switch 2.
Because it's like saying MacOS is better than Windows because you can run a Windows image in a virtual machine. You're emulating the console at the end of the day (sometimes with a shittier buggy experience) so the comparison is kind of pointless, no?

I get that but a lot of times it can be a better experience. Fire emblem three houses can run 60 fps on pc versus the 30 fps on switch. And you checked me for the Fire Emblem fortune weaves that one will take some time be playable.

I try to, but the hassles do get in the way! There is value in having curated experiences at the cost of versatility.

I'm not saying x thing is better than PC, I'm just pointing out that depending on preference and tolerance -essentially use case- a person might find that the juice isn't worth the squeeze.

For sure but there is also value in curating your own experience as well and not having to wait for games to be ported from the past. Like I love the fact that I have my PC curated from all the games of my childhood from NES to games currently. Which is a lot easier then having the hardware and finding the games on eBay or a mom and pops store where they are charging up the ass for the games.

I see so many mmorpgs coming first on pc and it seems like it has every third party JRPG title coming out other than Nintendo exclusives. I feel like it's a the best platform for the following genres below especially if you include emulation.

Fighting Games
Hack and Slash
Jrpg
mmorpgs
You forgot to add that you have 5090 as well.

PC has an edge due to emulating all of the older games on a single new device with higher pixel resolution, hd texture packs and what not.

Some of the service-based games from Korea or China don't even hit consoles as well, or hit them later.

Japanese games are a trade-off, where some still only come to consoles (Vanillaware, Nintendo). PC at least has most, even the bad ports usually hit console settings, and often enough look/run better + mods. I'm happy at least, Japanese third-party games were the biggest reason I even owned consoles.

Even with that being said all vanillaware games are pretty much all playable through emulation.

Example(s)??

I can only think of Deadly Premonition.

It's been exacerbated by UE5 lately, of course, but there are plenty of examples like Monster Hunter Wilds, Silent Hill 2, Rise of the Ronin, Nioh (I guess just about anything Koei-Tecmo puts out, really), some of the Yakuza games that run on UE, etc. I'm not saying those games are perfect on consoles and yes, some of it does come down to how much tolerance one has for stuttering; but there are a lot of games from Japanese pubs that are downright substandard on PC.

I dont know as fan of Japanese games PS5 and Switch 2 is more than enough to get 90% of games I want.

I am pretty sure all of those games are still better overall on PC.

Nah, too much trouble and expense for a majority of users to bother with puzzle piece hardware and configurations. Eastern games are best played on their original hardware where the common man can enjoy cheap prices and plug and play minimalism.

Says you and a lot of those games are made on pc in the first place.

The downgraded games and online fee are much cheaper on consoles, sure. :pie_eyeroll:

No there's like 1.86 to 1.9 billion people who play on pc
There are an estimated 2 billion mobile gamers worldwide as of 2025, making it the most popular gaming platform. Projections estimate the number to grow to 1.9 billion by 2028. This surge is fueled by the increasing accessibility of affordable smartphones and improved mobile internet access, especially in emerging markets.

Yeah no

Basically, it doesn't matter what you play on, as long as it brings you joy. Any platform is a tool that allows you to brighten up your leisure time. If it make you happy, then it doesn't matter at all on what you play on. Most people I know typically have two to three gaming platforms.

Yep, and I've done that. I'd just prefer they get some studio to port their stuff, because I think their games (especially Unicorn Overlord) would make some real money on the platform...and I want them to have the cash to make more cool stuff.

Both do give me joy. I play most western games on my PS5 like sports, first person shooters, and first party exclusives. But eastern games I do on PC since there's so many on there.

Mobile > PC > consoles

Mobile has been the dominant force for a very long time now. Stuff like Monopoly Go generates more money than the biggest console games.

Now, I'll give you my own example for contrast. I can't game as much as I used to anymore, I'm old, I have a family, a child, work, etc. I have several consoles and a PC, and I play most of my games on consoles. There are many reasons, but the main one is probably that when I get home from work, I have a few hours (and sometimes less) to just sit and play, so I just jump on the couch, turn on my PS5 or Switch, and play. After work, I don't even want to move in direction of my PC. I bought the Switch because my job requires travel (although significantly less now), plus I have a fairly long road to and from work, and this device is perfect for me. And that doesn't mean I don't play on PC. I have my favorite old games and strategy games on there—I just can't play strategy games on anything other than a mouse and keyboard. Therefore, our platform preferences are dictated not only by where it's best, but sometimes simply by our life circumstances, and the convenience they provide.
