is Terminator 2 the greatest action movie of all time?

This is without a doubt the best action movie ever:

Watching T2 is when you realized that Cameron was losing his touch.

No matter how good (or overrated) the shootout scene in Heat is, it does not change the fact that the other 2 and a half or so hours of the movie are complete shit.

I just don't understand all the hate for Heat on GAF. Sure, the movie could have been shorter but to call it "complete shit" sounds hyperbolic.

on-topic: I remember watching Predator when I was 8 years old and nearly shitting myself. I really need to watch it again!

what the hell dude, I thought you were cool

I have not seen it since it first released. I am wanting to revisit it to see if my opinion of it has changed. There are movies that I honestly needed lots of time and distance to come around on. I am willing to give it another go sometime this year.

Heat is a great movie. It has a great action sequence with that shootout in the streets but I still consider it a crime drama.

I don't think anyone with any lick of sense can hate on Heat. But I also wouldn't define it as an "action" movie. So no, it doesn't belong here.

Not the greatest movie but a decent action flick:

We can't forget Cobra. Comically bad. Just bad. More of a cult following movie. Stallone's worst acting. Still a badass action hero I guess.

T2 vs. Aliens vs. Die Hard.

The Hat Trick of Action Movies.

Fixed that for you.

And all this thread has shown is that Cameron is action god. And the Arnold/Cameron combo is unstoppable.

TL was a disjointed mess.

Disjointed? Yes. But I feel that the disjointed feel of the movie is what makes it unique and special. The middle is a damn comedy, but a great comedy.

And SirButterstick, are you the evolved form of Butter_Stick on here?

I need to watch True Lies again. Haven't seen it in years. When it came out, I had no idea who James Cameron was, though I had seen and enjoyed Aliens and T2 (hadn't seen T1 yet, dad must have thought it was too hardcore for a 10 year old).

I recall not liking it. I was shocked to hear years later it was made by James Cameron. I think the sense of humor it has is what throws me off.

T2 while enjoyable is slightly overated... I mean, john conners dialogue is painful as all hell to listen to in this day and age.

Also, the fact that jackie chan isn't in it, immediately disqualifies it from best action movie and yes, i realize my avatar makes me seem amazingly biased.

I agree and no I am not avatar quoting you.

Come on no mention of Cliffhanger yet. It may not be god tier but it's got Sly and Michael Rooker tag teaming against a hilariously over the top John Lithgow and that FBI dude that goes batshit insane.

Most the 80's hong kong flicks are better.

Actually a lot of aged poorly.. like Dragon's Forever and whatnot...

T2 holds up to most movies CG wise today.. plus some decent acting in it from Robert..

That's because there isn't a lot of CG in it.

edit : I remember watching the making of and being surprised that those aluminium colored bulletholes in the T1000 were some kind of plastic things stuck to his clothes instead of CGI.

Have any of you guys saying Commando seen it recently? I love Arnold and pretty much all his movies, but Commando has aged terribly and just isn't very good. T2 on the other hand... probably my favorite movie of all time and has aged very well, but the tippytop of the action genre is a bit too crowded to have a king.

A recent movie that had a great action scene was Chronicle. The director really stretched that small budget. Can't wait to see what he can do with a big budget.

Yer a funny guy, PinkCrayon.

That's why I'm going to kill you last.

I love Arnold's movies myself. He's my favorite action star. However, Commando I can admit doesn't have the greatest acting but it's still a decent action flick.
