Do you think that people see the graphics on those games and are like hell no or is actually paying 80.00+ for a Nintendo video game. Nintendo games are not known for their graphical and technical prowess. I mean that Mario Kart doesn't look that much better than Mario Kart 8. Which would you consider the bigger issue?
By far the biggest issue people have with the Switch 2 is the price of the games they're charging for. It's been over four years since 2020, and people have barely conformed to the price of games being $70. Now, Nintendo - of all people - is now starting to charge $80 for their games, even though their first-party and second-party games cost a fraction compared to Sony's own first-party and second-party games. They feel the price of $80 that Nintendo is charging does not reflect the cost of development for their games.
Speaking of which, let's take a look at Death Stranding 2. A sequel to the wonderful Death Stranding that came out back in 2019 is planning to release in the same month as the Nintendo Switch 2's launch. The graphical fidelity of Death Stranding 2 is completely jaw-dropping to the motherf'ing teeth. It will completely shit all over Mario Kart World, and is also an open-world game just like the latter and, yet, Sony is charging only $70 for that sequel.
For all the criticism people have toward Sony for their remasters, at least some of their remasters, like Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and the Last of Us Part 1, are a night and day difference compared to their originals. Compared to Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, their Switch 2 counterparts barely look any different from their Switch 1 predecessors, with only 1440p resolutions and 60fps as the only things going for them on the Switch 2.
Nintendo is all about art direction, the problem is pricing of their games, they have lower development cost and yet they are the ones rising the price, also they almost never do discount, so fuck them.

I agree with this, BotW on Switch 2 is a straight port, they've made zero changes or improvements, you dont even get a actual new SKU of the game, its just the Switch game repackaged with a code. Its absolutely less than even the shittest remasters, its so low effort for one of the most overrated games of the last decade.
Not worth $90.
The price of a game is in the eye of the beholder. I hold Nintendo first party games higher than that of their counterparts. Everyone does, with taste, let's be honest here.
Watch them sell like hotcakes while 70 dollar sony games languish in despair.
Watch GTA raise the price of their next game because they realize what Nintendo already did. If one has a competitive advantage, charge more for it. They either earned it or didn't. Sales, critic reviews, everything is in Nintendo's favor on this. Name one metric where AC Shadows beats a mainline Nintendo game. Name one metric.

How much did it sell? What other metric would we like to discuss?
Remember all the people who "hated" botw over the years and how half of them just hated Nintendo and jumped on the bandwagon? Switch 2 is the newest bandwagon they have jumped on. Many are not fans. Many hated Nintendo for years before this. Looking over their posting history will prove this to be true. They reached a screeching volume level large enough for normies to notice which is why people are popping up like "what is going on," but mark my words, not nearly loud enough.
It is delusion to believe these actions have had any consequence. Switch 2 stands. Nintendo continues their work, and we(the faithful) have come to clear it up on gaf. Let's see how it all plays out.
Remember that the best game the entire rest of the industry could muster this year so far is this:

They broke the seal on $80 games at a time when consumers are already feeling the pain of reduced purchasing power and had barely finished adapting to $70 games. I don't think the nature of the software has anything to do with it. There would have been a backlash to this regardless of the publisher and the game. They put additional pressure on a system that had already been strained to near the breaking point.
Edit: It's worth noting that if the problem was actually "$80 Mario Kart," that's a problem that's easily solved by getting the $500 bundle. No one already owns a Switch 2, so if you want both it and Mario Kart, you can get a $450 Switch 2 and $50 Mario Kart. But that's not what's bothering people. It's the knowledge that someday they'll have to pay $80 for a game that they want and there won't be another option besides going without and hoping for a sale.

Personally I am also pissed at the return they get. Most of their first party games sell millions per year for years. They cost less to make and make way more than other games even at 60 a pop. Why they should be charging 10 more than others is beyond me. Well it isn't it is greed and market power.
The development cost for Mario Kart World surely isn't as high as modern PS5 games. That's a big contributing factor for me. Since the games cost less to develop it would be nice to not get charged as much since Nintendo could turn a profit even whilst selling at a lower price. Unless I'm totally wrong here and Mario Kart World or Donkey Kong actually cost more than TLOU2 etc to develop.
However the other argument is I know I'm sure to get my moneys worth out of Mario Kart. Still doesn't help me feel like I'm not getting ripped off though.
To me the lack of price drops and sales is a bigger issue than the actual price.
I can't justify $80 for most games but at least with every other publisher I get the option to wait 6-12 months and buy the games for less.
As for Nintendo games I really think it depends on the title. I can see a Mario Kart being worth if it it's packed with content and they've filled the open world with fun stuff to do. Same with a new Xenoblade or a new 3D Zelda (assuming it's not filled with recycled assets from BOTW).
Some of their other games I already find hard to justify at $60...much less $70 or 80. Stuff like Metroid Dread, those top down Zeldas. The next Pokemon game will likely be $80 and somehow still not even have voice acting.
A few things for me after doing research on this since I haven't owned a console for over a decade.
I'll mostly be on dock mode so a pro controller is almost a must which cost almost another hundred after tax.
Certain games even in base costing 80. It wouldn't be too bad if they all save on the cartridge itself like the n64.
Very low GB memory on a 2025 console just 256gb and you probably can't even use all of that since some of those would be used for the os and other things. So might have to get a extra memory card which is another payment.
Online service requiring another fee, thought it was a plug in and play online as long as u got an internet plug. It's not much but all adds up including the pro controller.
If I do decide to get it, I'll try to see how much I'll be able to enjoy the base controller on dock mode first so I can maybe save a hundred bucks and since I only want Mario Kart World, Hyrule Warrior Imprisonment War, Metroid Prime 4, and whatever new Zelda and Metroid comes plus next Mario Party and maybe a new 3D adventure Mario game than maybe I'll be able to save on the extra memory.
Assuming I'm even going to get the Switch 2 since I haven't decided yet.
There is no problem. It's 2025. I'm old enough to remember N64 games costing $75 way back in the 90s. People are just whiners. Is an extra $10 for select first party games really going to break you? Or an extra $50 on the console itself versus what you were hoping?
The cart costs alone are problematic I think. They can always do sales or quasi-sales on eShop, but the MSRP is going to have to increase just from the cart costs.

Nintendo games are valued more for their gameplay and experience than their graphics. While some may feel the price is high for what seems like minimal graphical improvement, fans appreciate the timeless fun, quality, and replayability. The bigger issue is subjective—some care more about graphics, while others prioritize the unique Nintendo experience.
