Is there a good F1 (Formula One) game?

Musashi Wins!

FLAWLESS VICTOLY!
So....lately, I've become a bit of a F1 junkie. I love it, I think it has some of the most talented drivers on earth competing, great tracks, etc. The problem is that I am still a bit ignorant about the sport and I live in the US which is much more excited about the inferior Nascar circuit. I've come to appreciate that a little in it's way as well but F1 GODDAMN. So..I'd like to play a game that represents it well. Are there any? I see a couple that are supposed to release on PSP which sounds fantastic, but I'm interested in console titles and the like as well.

Any tips would be appreciated.

On console, Sony own the exclusive rights, so you'll only have one game on PS2, and thats the one published by Sony. Developed in house in the UK. Same developer doing the PSP version.

F1'05 is out July 1st in the UK. I have no idea if its coming out in the US, but as F1 isn't that popular, and SCEA and SCEE seem to have it in for each other, I woudln't hold my breath.

I don't think there's been a truly great F1 game on the current consoles, especially since interest seems to have cooled so much on it in the US (and this weekend's US GP debacle won't help). EA's F1 Career Challenge wasn't total crap, though it's kind of old now. I seem to remember Atari's Grand Prix Challenge was decent, too.

Sony's most recent F1 game felt unplayable to me, though I never did try it with a decent steering wheel setup. Either way, I'm sure you can find all of them pretty cheap.

If you want a fun, cheap road racing game, check out Le Mans 24 Hours from Atari.

You should probably try Grand Prix Challenge by Melbourne House. I think that's the only decent F1 game released this gen. The SCEE made games seemed like a total disaster to me.

I wonder if the crappy show this week-end at Indianapolis can affect some decision about bringing F1 2005 in the US...

Can anyone explain what happened?

This was the start of the race....

Michelin pulled their tyres and all the michelin runners pulled into the pits, leaving only 6 bridgestone runners in the race. Of course Schumacher won.

The FIA are fucking retards. The teams were ready to race even without the points (but with new tires) and they refused. They also refused the chicane option.
F1 is more politics than racing. That truly sucks. FIA can go burn slowly and painfully in hell.

thats the problem. they cant change the rules for michelin. otherwise ferrari and the other bridgestone teams could desired something in the past (for example: when schumi´s tires broke).

these fia rules are completly shit. and they should drop these for the next season.

The best F1 game on PC is Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix 4, you should be able to pick it up for about $10. If you do go to these places:

http://www.motorsportfotos.co.uk/forum/local_links.php?action=links
http://www.grandprixgames.org/
http://www.gp4italia.org/

And get all the 2005 season data, except the tracks which are currently being worked on as the modders have just recently cracked the track files. :D

You can also mod the game with older F1 seasons, and other motor racing classes like GT, F3, Formula Renault etc.

her,no.Michelin came to the circuit with two kinds of tyres and both of them coudn't last 10 laps. FIA asked them to bring new tyres, but with a penalty and Michelin coudn't do it.

So,the FIA said that they could race if they slow down at the fast turn going to the straight or change tyres when needed,in this case, every 10 laps. Both options,in racing, are absolutly crazy.

So they asked for a vote. All the pilots said yes for Michelin proposal. Then they asked the teams and Bridgestone.

9 out of 10 team said yes.Ferrari and Bridgestone letting the FIA decide what to do.

FIA said no to Michelin.

Who to blame?

Michelin first for not coming with a tyre capable of lasting more than 10 laps.Really,WTF! I've never seen this in racing in my life.

Second, the FIA for trying too hard to stick to the book and compromise everything.

Third,I don't really think so on many level, but to make people hating them happy,Ferrari.By saying yes,all could've been avoided because they don't need the FIA if a %100 agreement is sign.

Holy crap, does that PC game look nice. Sure wish there was something good on console.

I'm well aware of this weekend's fiasco, it's particularly bad timing as it may hurt the leagues image in the US even further making my bugeoning love for the sport harder to follow.

I wonder if that was thought out. That gave them some precious points and victory...

Maybe.I don't think so,but surely both pilots don't have anything to do with what happen.I just wonder what Michelin would've done in the same situation, but the other way around.Quite possibly the same thing and the FIA response woul've been the same. Here's todays response from the FIA and frankly even if I hate to admit it,for one of the first time I kinda see their point.http://www.formula1.com/news/3209.html

I bought F1 2002 for 10 euros or something, it has a 2 player mode with all cars ^_^
I may be wrong but the two player mode doesn't include pitstops and other realistic factors which is a bit of a shame. But I like F1 2002 better than any of SCEE's Formula One games.

Bah, just read about it. The whole thing is so stupid...

Try Melbourne House's GPC. It looks good, that's for sure, but it's probably too arcadey for real F1 sim fans.

Schumacher is a bitch, who the hell cuts off their own teammate? and the third place winner is a douche for celebrating about beating his own teammate and two other cars, good job, now jump around and act like a dumbass durring one the darkest moments of F1 racing. You will never see the podium again! Jerk. /rant

If you want a classic F1 game, F1 World Grand Prix for the N64 was awesome. I was eagerly anticipating the sequel, but it only came out in Europe. Oh well.

Michelin should be humiliated for the stunt it tried to pull Sunday.

Coming up at 5am the morning of a race and saying that both its primary and backup compounds for the race were not safe? Come on! How many laps of that speedway have been made on Michelins? And suddenly it can't provide the proper compound for the race?

It was a simple ploy to pad the deck and make sure team Ferrari wouldn't win here where it is like the only team anyone knows.

Yes, there's a lot of politics in the sport -- just about ruined it. Why do you think no one other than Ferrari runs Bridgestones? (and no, those other two teams don't count. They are not remotely competitive nor engaged in the sport other then to splash a few sponsor's names around the track)

If a change had been made Ferrari would have been at a disadvantage for having brought the correct tires. If you've played racing games you know how much it helps to have softer compound. Michelin went too soft with both tires. The whole idea of a backup is to prevent this very situation.

And as for the Jordan/Toyota guy celebrating cut the guy some slack. It was probably the greatest moment of his life. That team isn't going to get a whiff of the podium otherwise so he enjoyed it a little.

last race was a FUCKING joke...

Ecliston(sp?) should be changed... but he's the owner :(

I remember even creating a thread here, looking for good F1 games, but no one have replied to it lol

GP4 and F1 CC are the tops dogs when it comes to good F1 games.
i prefer f1 CC, due to the quality of the mods, and the fact that all the controls map wonderfully to my xbox pad.

in addition to the GP4 mod shots, i include these for your consideration.

if you are stuck on a decision, i would simply buy both, they are extremely cheap and well supported.

and it has a multitude of camera angles, approx 10 in car.

the reason why the tires were not safe was because it was a defect in the connecting material between the sidewall and the carcass. it wouldn't have mattered how many compounds michelin flew in because all the tires manufactured that year probably had the same defect. yes, the michelin tires were not safe, and it's really too bad, however, it wasn't because michelin engineers were cutting too many corners (let's face it - everyone in f1 is designing their parts for 100% performance) but because of odd track conditions (turn 13 was newly repaved and rougher than predicted) that michelin had not had a chance to test on but bridgestone DID via IRL. the turn exposed the defect and that was all she wrote for the mchelins.

facts:

that michelin came forward with this and made its top priority the safety of its teams and the fans was inarguably the right thing to do.

that the fia (and ferrari) refused to approach the problem rationally was NOT the right thing to do. yes, the teams should have brought proper equipment; however, they were ready to race for NO POINTS with the chicane. however, they could not race without the chicane (you CAN'T tell a competitive race driver to slow down, it's like asking a fish to stop swimming; and putting any of the teams in a position where they couldn't competitively even for brownie points is like slapping them directly in the face and then spitting on all their respective shoes. it's a huge waste of money and an unneeded danger for those teams you're asking to fill in the pack).

remember that EVERY team except for ferrari was prepared to pull in (and hopefully force the fia to come to its senses) after the parade lap. the only reason minardi went out was because the jordan drivers broke their promise and went out due to points greed.

f1 is a spectator sport and the fia has to look after the interests of the fans as well as the teams and whatever its bullshit athletic ethics say

i've heard that grand prix legends is the only accurate f1 sim

anyways, fuck bernie, max, schumacher, et al.

The Gran Turismo games on PS2 have F1 cars, but they only support up to six cars in a race.

Hang on a second...

Formula One '05 is a Playstation 2 exclusive.

When it comes to F1 gaming on PC Grand Prix 4 is the creme de la creme, imo. :D

Option to select:

- 60 Hz (NTSC)

** Might not be options in the final retail version **

In a SCEE game, surely not? I know The Getaway had it, but with their recent shenanigans with GT4 & God of War. I can see this getting the chop as well. :lol

Best F1 game? WHY CART FURY OF COURSE!
