Is this a good HDTV to watch movies and play games?

I'd have to poo on that based on the fact that it's an LCD projection (the response times on G Wegas weren't good), and I remember playing Halo 2 on a similar G Wega and couldn't play through the dark sections unless you jacked up the brightness.

For a little less than that price, I'd go with the 50" Samsung DLP projection for the fact that it gives you solid 60hz refresh. Black and gray levels still suck though.

Hmm, Halo 2 is a bit dark on my crt based rptv, so that might be a problem with Halo 2. I suggest going to the AVS forum and do some research. Each technology has its drawbacks and you'll have to find which one you can live with. I know I'm happy with my Hitach 57S500, which is well abused and still no burn in. Only thing that it is very bulky and heavy, and I think it looks ugly sitting by itself with a cabinet to surround it.

This looks to be around my price and I have component cables for all my systems.

It's an awesome TV. Ignore what's been said so far. It was one of the highly recommended TVs in AVSForum which is a home theater enthusiast site. It was better than the Samsung DLP based on it's image quality for standard definition and the fact that it didn't have lag like the Samsung did which made some games unplayable. I highly recommend it. Not sure what Shog is saying about response time or any of that. Samsung DLPs are great HDTVs, but they suck when it comes to standard definition stuff.
