It’s not our job

Lots of folks like to follow the industry as a whole, including the business aspect. Nothing wrong with that.

If you don't want to talk about such things......then don't

It's not our job to worry about layoffs, and the profits of a companies hardware, our job as a gamer is without question to play games.

I welcome comments to this topic, has gaming become a business club.

Looking at the companies you buy products/services from, and having an opinion about how they run their business, is fine and you can make decisions according to this if it makes you feel better.

Or you can be a consumer that only thinks of his own interest and doesn't care about anything. This is also fine.

No people are proud of Sony for achieving success or proud of Microsoft struggling to feel better, you are a gamer

Don't forget though. You need to play the right games. You don't wanna be labeled a consoomer and be accused of helping to destroy the gaming industry.

there is probably nothing else to talk about. Every single news/game is dissected before it even releases.
People spend too much time on forum with too little news to really discuss

Oh... wow.

Ok got this. I was about to make a post about mines and their impact on populations and the environment. About layoffs and the poor guys having to pay a loan and for health-care. Sorry, I was totally off topic ! :messenger_tears_of_joy:

It's our job to reward good behavior and punish bad behavior with our wallets. Companies are not our friends, and money is the only language they understand. Otherwise, all companies can gargle my balls.

I like playing games AND I like the business side of the games industry. I'm also a Microsoft shareholder. So I care very much how they're doing as a business.

Dont worry too much about gaming and tech jobs. The avg US salary is about $60,000. I'm sure these techie kinds of jobs skew high getting paid double that. Make a shit game (or none at all!) over years and years of budget and you can consider it getting paid while doing nothing but internally circle jerking around the office with nothing good to show or sell.

Put it this way. A mom and pop bakery churning out endless bagels and cups of coffee making some profit to live another year has done better than most of these gaming bros at juicy salaries, perks and budget busting resources doing squat except for a trailer (which they probably didnt even make but contracted it out).

Or similarly, lets say you have a job as one of those guys driving a van and fixing cable and hydro lines. For all the studios that did nothing in 5 years, if you drove the truck around the city and fixed just one faulty wire in those years helping some houses get service back you technically did more than an entire game studio with their giant budget.

Figure that one out.

The way I look at it is, yes in a vacuum, the people getting laid off makes no difference to me, I can't care about every single person on earth going through hardship, and me virtue signaling online does nothing to actually help them. But it does have clear meaning for how Microsoft will approach their vidya in the future and that is relevant.

Couldn't agree more.

Not saying that people shouldn't be allowed to discuss those topics here, but maybe stick them in a subforum away from the main gaming forum.

Many people grow up playing games and dream of being game developers. But game developers often end up hating gamers for not supporting their dream career ahead of just carrying on playing the sort of games they want to play. They see themselves as the Ryu or Chun-Li and the customers as the background characters with two frames of animation.

A bad studio that doesn't get good games done shouldn't remain in business. Bad teams that can't deliver consistent quality should absolutely get laid off. Bad executives/investors who don't care about games and don't deliver should lose their position/investment.

Having a job is not a right. Do it well or go do something else. Let someone else who's better do it.

Exactly.

Hey, you never know. Maybe long time ago when games were made by small teams and small budgets every person in those old photos who looked like 4 eye geeks were the most egotistical POS like a lot of modern day devs. It's just that there wasnt any social media back then so gamers couldnt vent, and game devs could vent back on a Twitter or Reddit post.

However, I get a sense game devs back then just seemed more chill and cared more about making games than personal politics, backlashing at gamers, publicly posting confidential company memos, or even ragging on bosses or competing games.

Things changed big time IMO. And that doesn't even include games which are shit half the time despite giant budgets, time, and tools. As compared to shoestring teams making games during the PS1 or Windows 98 era.

You're fucking tell me man. I just found 2 other threads where OP is in that are incoherent dog shit AI posting drivel.

Is OP AI, low tier trolling, or just not an English native speaker?

This is the most coherent post of his/hers.

If everyone was doing their job well we wouldn't be talking about it anywhere near as much. Unfortunately the bulk of the industry is a giant car crash and we're inclined to discuss why.

100% agree actually. Some people get caught up in who's making the most, and I don't care. Whoever makes the best games wins in elmy eyes. If they all fail, don't worry. I have so many retro games, I'll be good for many years.

I don't care about all the little details but I'll care if a company who makes games I like goes out of business. If Capcom ever folded, you'll find me in the fetal position contemplating life.

I could agree with general fiscal reports (who cares about those) but Microsoft is going full scorched earth on the console space and possibly reshaping how games are made so of course it's a topic of interest.

There is a difference between a spotty teenager getting a hit game then suddenly rocking up in a sports car and growing a huge ego and twenty five year old college graduate suddenly getting a slightly less junior job at a mega publisher then growing a huge ego when the game they are working on, scheduled for release in 5 years time, is criticized on social media.
