It seems Square-Enix is sitting on FFX-X2 HD PC version

PC version of FFXV is so blatantly coming. The only question is how long the wait will be after the console release. It should really be day and date but I doubt. A Dragon Quest Heroes gap would be fine, but knowing Square it could easily be 2017

I just hope when XII comes around we aren't waiting a huge amount of time. And I wonder how long we will have to wait for XV. It would make sense just to release it around consoles but this is SE. Releasing a new FF on PC around the time of consoles? That makes to much sense.

I could swear I saw something the other day where Tabata came right out and said there's no plans to release on PC at this time.

Because they want double-dippers.

I can appreciate the skepticism, and I'll fully agree that personally I think Steam/PC is a really healthy platform for additional RoI but consider the situation here:

- The game is releasing in 2016 no matter what
- Luminous is an in-house engine*, significantly being built alongside FFXV
- Optimizing performance on consoles to hit their render target of 1080/30 is already going to be a long, tedious, iterative process on its own
- PC as a consumer platform, with its multitude of configurations and unforseen issues is very, very different from PC as a base development platform, which is a far more controlled situation. Tabata said as much

When they say "there's no current plans for a PC release, focusing on console versions", I think I can take that at face value, at least until the console version is out and is as good as it can be.

Additionally, (and I'm speaking in general, not specifically w.r.t. Square Enix) there's a whole dynamic of skepticism regarding PC cannibalizing sales, both in direct legit platform-vs-platform competition and the perceived ease of piracy, that's still front and center in a lot of business decisions as far as Japanese game development goes. Some companies are beginning to break the mold like Bamco with Zestiria, but it's still a significant factor in these things.

It actually looks nice ever since the awful, awful filter got removed. I have no idea what they were thinking with that filter.

Oh I hadn't heard about that, will need to check it out. Still, I probably always prefer the OG or GBA art over anything else. Pending a full remake that is.

Early screenshot showing what they were able to do by just removing the filter, still some work to be done apparently.

The sprites look significantly better when they are correctly upscaled. I believe the ultimate plan is to include an option for the original SNES sprites as well.

It's really sad that XV, WoFF and FFVII:R had to be cancelled for some shitty ports.

Well, to be fair, once it turned out that XV and 7R were Action RPGs, the kindest thing was to have them put down. They were only suffering. :P

But back to the topic at hand -- I actually just had a hankering for some FFX/X2, kinda surprised it's not on Steam already. I wonder -- since they were on Vita / Playstation, perhaps Sony worked some sort of timed exclusivity deal?

Oh wow, those latter two look... surprisingly nice.

... Is that all that's wrong with FF6's spritework? A weird filter they included? Wonder if something similar could be done for FF5...

If they do release FFT, you can guarantee it'll be a frills-free port of the Android version just like FFIII, IV, V, and VI. You'll be lucky if they remove the touchscreen-oriented UI changes, but they sure as hell won't be adding useful things like mouse support.

Yeah I know, but I can still hope that they would make a decent job.

Assuming that FFXV is September/October on consoles, I'm guessing it'll be January/February 2017 on PC

If they're sitting on this, one can only imagine it's being incentivised for something else.

- There may be a Sony exclusivity deal for the project, much like there was for the GTA games during the PS2 days. Wait till March, because if there is a deal, it's probably until a year after the PS4 release.

- It's being incentivised for something else, and we all know FFXV will be coming to PC one day. I don't know how soon this one will be, but it could be used to raise hype.

The game is absolutely coming because Steam has been a huge resurgence for Japanese games, and Square-Enix has perhaps tasted this already with their smaller efforts.

Couldnt SE just have some kind of exclusivity deal with Sony they are waiting out for the remaster?

I forget exactly but I think X HD was a March release. Maybe this will be out by then.

Heck maybe a PC announcement for XV will happen along with the console release date announcement and FFX HD will factor into that somehow.

Because chances are they're lower quality or have less people working on it? Or to be more precise, as a casual FF fan I dont give a shit about FF: Record Keeper (first subtitle that popped up).

You know the easy money from outsourced, low overhead ports keeps money in the coffers and employees paid to develop (over multiple years) games like FFXV, right?
