Itagaki provides update on Devil's Third

According to his facebook page it took his team four years to make ninja gaiden xbox, then another year to make ngb.

I believe he is just taking his time to make a great, no, a masterpiece of an action title.

So MS didn't pick it up? Woah.

I want to see what reason Itagaki has for not putting the game on PS4. For PS2 it was because inferior hardware and PS3 was difficult hardware.

I'm sure it will be on PS4 because he had valid reasons not to support PS2/3.

Considering his studio is called Valhalla I hope he gets to make a Viking action game one day.

Haha, thank you for this mate. I remember that interview where Itagaki and Harada get together and Itagaki is basically bashing Tekken.

Which I always found weird since Itagaki knows shit all about fighting mechanics. Which he confirmed when he made a statement about balance of DOA3 saying that the ninjas should be the most powerful because they're ninjas and that they wouldn't/shouldn't lose to non ninja characters. Thankfully the rest of Team Ninja knew he was trippin balls and made DOA3 better.

They... published the game? They, in their infinite wisdom, were hell bent on having an exclusive game release in the same month/week as MGS 4?

NG II being what it is is as much of Microsoft's fault as it is Tecmo's fault. They fucked the game with their dumb decisions. Microsoft decided they wanted to release the game earlier than it should have been released, just for the sake of releasing it alongside MGS 4. Tecmo had their own internal troubles with Itagaki, because Yasuda was a dickhead, he didn't pay Itagaki his bonuses for completing DOA 4 on time. He didn't pay Ozawa and a lot of other people for overtime during NG II's development.

All of this shit could have easily been avoided had Yoshihito Kakihara stayed alive long enough. Or had he a worthy successor, which he didn't.
He knew how to run Team Ninja properly and how to deal with Itagaki.

Ok they may have given the game an OK when it wasnt ready, but that does not mean that MS fucked Team Ninja and Itagaki over like Tecmo did.

this is for the sake of future titles.

if anything letting the game release early allowed Itagaki to leave earlier, they did him a favor.

the Tekken hating thing was just goofy PR.

pushing out a game like NGII early = fucking team ninja.

They did him a favor?

lol, OK.

The man clearly regrets not being able to properly balance and finish the game, yet he should thank Microsoft for allowing him to leave earlier. Because, really, that did wonders for his career.
He went from an unblemished portfolio to having a sub-par game that should, by all measurables, been great. And wasn't because he wasn't given enough time.

Maybe Microsoft, the saints that they are, should have employed him and his team at some point in the past 5 years, but they probably forgot that Itagaki played a role in the Xbox brand ever being relevant.

Nah, bro. He genuinely had a beef with Namco and Tekken for some time. It stemmed from Namco dogging DOA on release with radio ads to sell Tekken (IIRC). He took it personally.

How likely do you guys think this game will also be on the Wii U? It was said in 2011 when the game was announced that they were very excited about the Wii U. If Devil's Third (an online action game) ends up coming to Wii U then I'll be pumped because we'll also have Bayonetta 2 as a single player action game.

Unless it's being published and funded by Nintendo, there's zero incentive whatsoever for any third-party AAA title to be on Wii U.

But in my eye this isn't really a AAA title but rather something more in the mid-tier A level. Which are my kind of games.

Aww I just bought Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 , is it not good? :(

Maybe I don't have high standards or maybe it's the fact I love a genre that doesn't have a lot of games, but NGS2 was a lot of fun. The team missions are fucking broken, but going through them (didn't finish them all...damn Ultimate Ninja 1 -_-) with some friends was awesome. I wished more action games implemented a similar mode, but more balanced.

It's fine and they fix a lot of the issues with NG2 but at the same time it's arguably easier than NG2. That being said I personally think Sigma 2 is the strongest of the Sigma series as it provides a deeper challenge than NGS.

Co-Op is shit tho

It's good. Very good. It isn't as good as the standard Ninja Gaiden 2 but still very good.

Negatives are: purple smoke instead of blood when slicing up enemies, a lot less blood in the entire game, loading when opening chests, less enemies on screen (to provide a better framerate).

And there's 0 incentive for Nintendo if they were to fund and publish this.

Not really sure how you can say that when almost no one is buying Wii U and the games on it are drying up...

Moot point anyway though, as it's likely another instance of the system being too technically outdated and underpowered, anyway.

There are far better investments for Nintendo than this game. Which will probably end up on STEAM or the PS3.

If Nintendo really wants another actiony game for their platform, giving money Suda for a NMH3 would be a far better and viable option. Since at least the fanbase is on Nintendo hardware

Don't know about that, I always found Dead or Alive games better fighting games than Tekken games and this is coming from a hardcore Virtua Fighter player.

Its awesome! I have NGS 1 and 2 for PS3 and loved both. Usually original NG fanboys (and specially xbox fanboys) do not recognise these games qualities, but theyre great!!

NG3 however, from what ive seen, seems trully a bad product. Thats why I did not bothered buying it.

Oh yeah, real sound investment. Suda keeps the blockbusters coming.

It's incredibly dismissive to discount the amount of discussion and reasoning that has gone on on GAF alone as "NG fanboys." Besides that, NG fanboys are probably going to be the ones you want to listen to.

NGS isn't as good as NGB.

NGS2 is a bunch of tradeoffs from NG2. I prefer NGS2 just because I don't like getting pelted with incendiary shuriken all day, but after playing NG2 recently, the battles are much better because of the higher enemy count.

If you can only play NGS and not NGB, then do that. If you can only play NGS2, then do it. They're both good, and without a point of comparison, then all the stuff most people complain about in the sigma versions won't really matter to you.

As a VF player as well I can confirm this.

lol never looked at it that way.

:P

I'm in the camp that thinks Itagaki makes shit fighting games. I think DoA1 was good because it was the closest to VF the series has ever been. DoA2 and DoA3 were happy accidents. Itagaki saw everything that competitive players liked about DoA3.1 and destroyed it in DoA4. His comments on fighters make me think that, were he to make a fighter, it'd be good only by luck. Since he likes gambling, I guess that makes sense.

Awesome to hear, thanks guys for assuages my fears from a previous poster lol I was worried since I just now started playing Sigma 1 and am loving it cant wait to see what a developed from the ground up "ps360" gen sequel could accomplish!

Ok, Itadaki, what are you trying to tell us here...

Well... I did some digging and think I've solved the mystery, so let's START!

As you all know:

  • Breitling is a world famous watch manufacturer and very old.
  • Nintendo is a world famous cosumer electronics company and very old.
Breitling was founded: 1884
Nintendo was founded: 1889

Difference: 5 YEARS

In other words, Breitling came first, then came Nintendo.

This is important: Itadaki said, the game will be "announced this year", which means 2014, but he didn't say it will be "released" this year.
Therefore, I expect the game to be announced THIS year (at E3), but released in the beginning of 2015... on Wii U

Let's continue our investigation:

  • Devil's Third was - for the first time ever - announced in 2010
  • Devil's Third - if my prediction is right - will come out on Wii U in 2015
Difference: 5 YEARS

In other words, Devils Third (the announcment) came first, then - 5 years later - it was released on a Nintendo console (the Wii U), just like Breitling came first and - 5 years - later came Nintendo.

I know Japanese hints can be confusing at times, but this one was pretty easy to solve.

Interesting, if rather complex theory. But hey, stranger things have happened, so who knows?

That said, the rather uniform thematic composition of Breitling's image advertising makes me think he might be referring to something else.

I think you can see the pattern here: game will star Travolta and Beckham, and frequently use the color yellow.
