It's almost unnatural how good bears are at climbing trees

Grew up small town interior of british columbia. Would often run into black (odd brown too) bears when walking the dog. More than once you'd hear a crash not far off because the fucker came out of a damn tree. Have also seen them scurry up if your close and startle them. It always looked like walking and climbing a tree was the same to them.

They're even better at snatching pic-a-nic baskets.

People are misunderstanding what he's saying in the title. He's not saying bears defy nature, just that on the face of it it doesn't quite look right to the uninitiated for something that big and heavy, a feared ground predator, to be climbing trees so easily. Tree climbers are usually small and nimble.

Kinda reminds me of training mma. There are some super heavyweights that move like middleweights. Scary fucking shit because you want to imagine you have the mobilty advantage. Nope. And they've trained to use that weight against you too.
Can't imagine a bear or gorilla with magnitudes more strength and fast twitch muscle fibers galore.

Bears are badass mofos. Tigers are like the only other animal that can 1v1 a grizzly bear. That legendary scene from The Revenant comes to mind...

In a way I feel we don't give bears enough respect. We view them as these fat goofy animals and shit. But they're buff ass predators.

If you want to survive a bear attack, go after it's cubs. Bears will do anything (retreat) to keep their children safe.

Also, bears are afraid of the color yellow.

In fact, many park rangers now recommend using yellow mustard as bear repellent as it's been proven more effective than both bear spray and mace.
