I'm currently listening to Picaresque by The Decemberists, and holy crap, it rocks. Did I miss the GAF hype train for this group in my idiocy, or has this been a stealth release? Are any of their earlier albums any good, and if so, which one should I get next?
Get
The Tain next, then everything else, it's all REALLY REALLY GOOD.
The Tain is a 18 minute concept EP that's a throwback to Iron Butterfly and the like. Both of their other LPs are fabulous, and the
Five Songs EP is very good, too.
The Tain is about the best thing ever, though. They really haven't done anything bad at all, one of the most solid bands of the last handful of years, they're as good as everyone says. See them live if you get a chance, too.

Also, can you good folks tell me more about Spoon and Architecture in Helsinki? I haven't heard any of their music, but they are much-discussed these days. What does the music sound like?
I don't know about Spoon, but Architecture in Helsinki's new one was pretty fun. I only listened a couple times but it was entertaining. Really dense, weird pop music. Reminded me of Olivia Tremor Control and Jennifer Gentle a lot, but I could just be on drugs. It's darn good.

Good 'ol Sunn0))). The Earth 'Legacy of Dissolution' remix album is pretty tops.
I may have to check that out based on your word. I guess that Racebannon is releasing a remix album this year (along with a reissue of their first LP, a comp of their EPs & Singles, and a new album, 2005 = Year of Racebannon!) with a Merzbow remix on it. I've never been this excited for a remix ever.
