Konami's grand return, after returning and resurfacing years after its dark era with Panchiko and Metal Gear Survived.

There are still things that remain unforgivable, like the cancellation of P.T. and the incompletion of Metal Gear: The Phantom Pain.

It's understandable that it was during the dark era and the Panchiko era... But it's back in a big way with Silent Hill 2 Remake, Silent Hill F, and Metal Gear 3: Snake Eater Remake. As well as the Suikoden compilation. So it's one of the most important companies in the industry... Capcom's rival.

Plus, these games have been of supreme quality.

Silent Hill: The Short Message, while not a bad game, is a good game, but underrated.

And now with the production of Castlevania.

In addition to the Castlevania DS Games Compilation.

Let's wait for Goemon's compilation

I miss when I was among the few people who still liked Konami. Their output is great, but the hyperbole is annoying.
Shit is kinda giving pre Dragon's Dogma 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds CAPGOD yapping vibes.

More than a decade for being internet cowards, nothing really happened.

I've never blamed them in the first place.
I'm just glad they're back honestly. They have way too many great IPs in their cellar and it was sad to see em just rotting away there.

Love Silent Hill f but nah, still on team #FuckKonami. One right move (hiring NeoBards to develop SHf) doesn't excuse the dozens of fuckups they've made over the past decade+.
And I'm not giving credit to Konami for taking the cheapest paths to remake their best-selling games. Capcom develops their remakes in-house and the level of care really shows. Meanwhile, we've still got people waiting for an update to fix the PS5 version of Silent Hill 2 Remake... an update that is never going to arrive because Konami simply does not care.

Edit: Also they only remembered Suikoden existed after Murayama successfully kickstarted a Suikoden successor.

They've been moving in the right direction, but still have a lot of time before they earn my forgiveness.

Let's see a new Castlevania, then we'll talk. And a new, good Contra while we're at it.

They did a lot of unforgivable things (e.g. pachinko) but they are certainly trying to redeem themselves on some fronts.

The MGS delta remake is solid. It's perfection but it's definitely very close. Let's hope other follow this trend.

It's crazy that konami, EA, ubisoft etc were once respected companies

What's wrong with the "PS5" version of Silent Hill 2

Never had any beef with them. I would have gotten rid of Kojima too. They need to bring back 3D Castlevania. Lords Of Shadows was good. 2 was bad, but so was DMC 2. No need to stop making 3D Castlevanias.

Their redemption arc has been running a lot longer than these games. Their work with M2 on the Castlevania, Contra and Konami Anniversary collections was stellar.

Because they are releasing old games? Remakes and remasters done by outsourced studios? Konami is just an IP holding company for their titles at this point. They do nothing, they have no talent.

SHf is good but supreme quality is a stretch. SH2remake is ass compared to the original it's just mostly competent which for Bloober is a pretty major improvement.

It is nice to see Konami trying again and they have been doing some nice stuff with their classic library but they have a long way to go until they resemble anything close to their glory days.

I always leaned towards supporting them. During the Konami/Kojima divorce and the years of what seemed to be Konami retreating largely from game development, while acknowledging their faults, I was more sympathetic to their situation. I felt like they would find their way back to AAA gaming (and they did). I didn't fault them for their business ventures outside of gaming. I did read reports of allegations that internally the culture was bad and/or the company was too strict. Divorces are messy. I don't think every negative thing said about Kojima or Konami is true. If the reports are true of bad leadership/bad culture within Konami are/were true, I hope the situation has improved. I don't blame them for not wanting to allow or support everything Kojima wanted though. I think it's better for Kojima and Konami that Kojima left. I think the guy behind the Metroidvania Castlevania's left Konami years ago and cited lack of support for continuing those kinds of games as a reason why he left. So I can see multiple examples of great creators they had leaving them, and those do paint Konami in a poor light. But at this point, Konami has done a good job remastering the first 2 Suikoden games with interest in investing in the franchise, they have released a critically acclaimed new Silent Hill entry, they collaborated with a company many didn't have faith in and did something unthinkable with creating a great Silent Hill 2 remake and internally the developed a great remake of MGS3. I think this shows they have gone through some introspection and real attempt at appreciating their own legacy and what their fans like is a major driving force for the company now.

Nice post but man, do some formatting for heaven's sake, almost got a stroke by trying to read that 😉

I bought the MGS collection and DELTA Day 1. I understand others are happy with SH. They are back but I'll forgive them if they do a good job with the master collection V2 and a MGS1 remake.

I have colleagues from my past that worked for Konami out in Hawthorne, CA. It was an absolute shit show. I got a job offer from them for a project lead position in QA but it was for a fucking Castlevania phone game. I turned it down.

It wasn't just Kojima, they treated all of their employees like shit. As they started to transition further into gambling and mobile games, they held no reverence for their talent or how their own developers shaped the history of the gaming industry. They went from being creators and pioneers in the field to being cold, rigid accountants. They have no respect for the people that shaped their legacy and now they just live off the scraps of their past. Because even Konami knows, it has no talent left.

By the way, what is it with these weird cringe threads about Konami? Had one saying "Thank you Konami" as if we owe them something, and then this...?
Like who does this? I don't see this type of thing from other people for other game companies. Seems really awkward and forced.

One is a statement, the other is a question.

Not like a shitty company like TITUS.

Once they apologize by remastering Metal Gear Rising Revengeance & MGS4. Then announce MGRR2. After that they're forgiven…Oh, and an amazing Castlevania.
