UPN, so not live.

At first i was happy because it would make the royal rumble interesting.... then when i took several minutes screaming..... i was feeling akward...

Then when he was going to talk... and then drops the microfone

I screamed: MOTHERFUCKER!!!

And change the channel.... then i realized too late. that i was just being trolled.....
Sums up what I went through. I marked when he came out. Felt awkward an somewhat angry by the end.

Then Kane came out and I'm guessing tried to rape Cena and Ryder.

I don't understand why people don't like the supernatural stuff? Is it because it's unreal, or childish? You're watching American pro wrestling, and WCW is dead. You're watching a show that has always been aimed at children (even during the Attitude era), just accept it. If you want to watch wrestling and pretend like it's real, then go watch Japan.

In the end, it's all ridiculous to me. Cena getting DDT'd on concrete and popping right up, or HHH being dropped in a car from a forklift and surviving without a scratch is just as ridiculous as Taker and Kane.

They're marks! Just ignore them and move on. I bet if it was any other wrestler doing what Jericho did today, they'd probably complain. #heel
Damn it Jericho! Why the troll? :(

After weeks of cryptic “1-2-12” videos on Raw SuperShow, Chris Jericho made a shocking return and was warmly welcomed by the WWE Universe, greeting some with high-fives at ringside. As he urged them for more cheers, "#Y2J" instantly became the No. 1 worldwide trend on Twitter. But as the Superstar – who was dressed in a dazzling, light-up, blinged out jacket – prolonged his homecoming, the WWE Universe’s chants of “welcome back” soon turned to boos. A smiling Jericho exited without addressing the Memphis crowd, leaving the irritated WWE Universe wondering why he’s back.

The best and most "mature" part of the Attitude era was in '97 during the transition period where there was no true face and Stone Cold was just emerging. This was during the time of The Nation, Brett Hart heel and his beef with HBK, Vader was a monster and Sid had a title run. This was the only time where WWF felt like it was dark and mature and it was a bit before the internet would ruin everything. That segment with Pillman showing a gun on Raw was awesome.

They played it good. It really seemed like the wrestlers hated each other during the feuds. Ahmed/Faarooq, Pillman/SCSA, Brett/SCSA/HBK etc. It was also when people would feel bad for Mankind and Goldust was awesome. Ken Shamrock was also great. In 98 WWF started to slowly get a bit more cartoony.

That ending was so cheesy and ridiculous it was kind of awesome.

Man, I literally couldn't stop laughing for a good 3 minutes. Sooo cheesy. Ahaahahah

You're absolutely right. The WWE was probably at its best (wrestling wise, and character direction) in 1997. It wasn't as cartoony as 1998, but it had its moments with the Kane storyline, which went on for most of the year, and Mick Foley as Dude Love and Mankind, but that was the most "real" the WWE ever felt. The attitude era started at WM 13 (and ended at WM 17), but they did it great in 1997.

This happened lol

And lets not forget about a certain incident at Survivor Series. The line was blurred between fiction and reality very well in 97, which led into the Attitude Era (Wrestlemania 13) perfectly.

I, personally, don't like because I don't like it. There's no agenda, and certainly not because it's "childish" or else I wouldn't be watching WWE at all in that case. It's just corny. Not self aware corny either. For the record, I raged at Cena's no sell DDT on concrete, and HHH's car falling from the forklift. I also didn't care for Vince's limo being blown up, Big Show being thrown off a building, anything Hornswaggle, HHH's home invasion, Katie Vick, Undertaker's various burials/resurrections, etc. etc. I'm just not interested in those comic book style angles.

Jericho trolling the audience? Yes please. Kane "dragging people into the abyss" and using his Lord Zedd fire powers? No, thank you.

I just don't think you can differentiate them. Just the idea of two guys fighting in a fake fight is absolutely ridiculous. Piledrivers, DDTs, it's all ridiculous. If you want me to believe that a guy can take being dropped on his head and being just fine, or being pummeled in the face with punches and having little damage, then that's just as ridiculous to me as an explosion under the ring.

It's pro wrestling, and it's been this way since the 80's.

Interestingly enough it was the time of the height of the nWo in WCW where Vince just lost Hall and Nash. He must have been shitting bricks at that point too.

If I had to put a time on where WWF got more dark it would be KotR 96 all the way to Stone Colds first title run. It started to get more cartoony around when Stone Cold lost the belt for the first time.

Yes, in 97 the in ring wrestling was great. The pacing of matches were perfect and the results were unpredictable. None of this run in bullshit that goes on 99% of the time. Heels actually won matches clean + Sunny :)

When you're that desperate for success, then you drive to perfect everything.

Speaking of Undertaker, I guess that means he's returning after RR/EC. Why not have him fight someone like Dolph Ziggler instead of the up and coming Triple H? I guess I can see why since he's a young wrestler while Taker is getting older, but the push would be good for him. Plus the match will probably be awesome!

Now see, I think this is a pretty dumb viewpoint. Because its a silly concept we should just accept anything?

That was some post-modern art shit from Jericho.

And some straight up Ico shit from Ryder and Cena.

The best part of the Attitude Era was Kane & Paul Bearer going out to dig up the Undertaker's parents. Then they drag the caskets to the Raw stage and Kane chokeslams Undertaker into his mother's casket.

Shit was so over the top, it was hard not to enjoy it. Certainly more entertaining than whatever was going on during Nitro.

Whoa! Bite your tongue. And to think I thought you were from Georgia.

Not anything, but if it's done well, then yeah. A great match is a great match, ridiculous or not, same goes for wacky "supernatural" stuff. I'm not saying you have to accept (and this isn't directed at Wrecker), but you shouldn't dismiss it either.

This kind of stuff is just as ingrained into the fabric of the WWE as a great technical wrestling match (more so really, since the 80's).

Well there are different extremes to pro wrestling, made more obvious when then entire rest of the roster isn't even reacting to the supernatural crap going on. There's a divide in the angles naturally because the Kane stuff is being treated completely separate from the rest of the program. It isn't like they're establishing a program where this supernatural stuff can happen in every match, so I'm instantly taken out of the experience when it starts happening.

It's like watching a semi-realistic, albeit a bit extreme, action movie, then 90 minutes in a DEMON POPS UP AND STARTS SHOOTING FIRE KABLOWIE PEW PEW AND DRAGGING PEOPLE TO HELL OMG.... and I'm just like WTF that wasn't in tone with the rest of this movie at all. I can accept the actors acting like they were fighting because that's the universe that was set up for me and what was happening 90% of the time. Supernatural stuff pushes my suspension of disbelief too far.
