Breakout Star of the Year - Mark Henry

bio-markhenry2.jpg

Now I could have picked CM Punk, but its not like Punk was some floudering jobber a year ago. Dude was one of the biggest heels in the company, multiple world championship reigns and all that shit. No, Mark Henry has been misused, mishandled, and disrespected for FIFTEEN FUCKING YEARS. He turned a completely boring arm wrestling segment against Kane into a beatdown that led to Kane being World’s Strongest Slammed through a table. He succeeded in pinning World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton in a tag match. He tackled Big Show through a wall with metal shit flying everywhere. He bullied around the guy who plays the music and proceeded to throw him into the distance like it was a game of Super Smash Brothers. He interfered in a Big Show vs. Del Rio cage match by tearing off the cage door – getting it right this time! – and hitting Big Show with it so hard that Show fell through the cage wall. Mark Henry had simply become the Juggernaut of wrestling. After years of having no idea how to book a super-strong guy, WWE finally got it together. It wasn’t about bending frying pans or holding running cars in place with your legs. It’s about wrecking everything and everyone. It's classic monster heel storytelling, and Mark Henry finally, FINALLY got to do what he was made to do:

Comeback Wrestler of the Year - The Rock

The_Rock_is_Back_BlazoMania.jpg

Honestly, what this even a question? Finally, The Rock, has come back...to the WWE.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8ejiG5-BtA&feature=player_embedded

Now, sure, he didn't back on anything resembling a full-time schedule, but the impact he had is unparalleled. When he returned for the above promo, it got people interested in the WWE that haven't watched it in years. And its not just his mic skills that haven't lost a step, just LOOK at the guy! I think he's even in better shape then when he left in 2004!

Honestly, I feel silly trying to explain why the Rock is a no-brainer for this award. He's the fucking Rock, and he came BACK. Everyone loves him('cept G-Fex, which is just another reason I vote No Confidence in his GM status). One of the most entertaining wrestlers the WWE has ever had. I get excited just thinking about the Rock, semi-homo.

Wrestling Observer Radio - January 12th

Wrestling Observer Radio with Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer returns today to talk all the news in wrestling and MMA including UFC 142 in Rio this weekend, what makes the show unique, thoughts on the top matches, Raw ratings from Monday night, quarters that did terrible numbers and what can be learned from it, Strikeforce ratings, ESPN looks at UFC payouts, questions and tons more.

Thanks again for this.

I cannot stop laughing at the Hardy facepaint on Del Rio's face. :lol

I was hoping to make it a theme among all Wrasslegaf member's avatars as a show of strength and solidarity against abusive thread moderation.

However, it took me waaaaaay too long with my "limited skeeels and abilities" in photoshop just to churn out my crappy version.

I enjoyed Meltzer talking about the HBK/Hogan angle from 2005 (starts at 35:25).

LOL @ Hogan suggesting that he beat HBK twice in a row.

I don't see what the big deal is. HBK isn't fit to even lick Hogan's boots clean.

Now, Bret Hart on the other hand...

I thick it's because he ha already put the Rock over twice, and he didn't want to become a jobber to all the attitude greats. He was just protecting himself. No?

I know not to trust Wrestlezone, but if Wrestlemania 29 ends up at Metlife (Giants/Jets) Stadium, Im going to need to save my pennies.
