Go Nintendo!!

Kicking ass once more.

Before long, MGS3 and DQVIII will have dropped below the xmas threesome of Sawaru, Mario Party 6 and Mario 64.

Nice to see Yoshi and Naturo doing so well also, we may even see DK: Jungle Beat climb into the chart before long.

It is Xmas time afterall, so this is to be expected.

Cold Shadow I refer not to it's place in sales, rather it's actual sales numbers.

Explain:

2.1m week 1
500k week 2
200k week 3
120k ish week 4

This is about as expected. The same as every other DQ game ever released.

So what is there to be suprised about?....

Initial sales of DQ8 were greater than DQ7's, but the likelihood of the game outselling DQ7 at this rate is slim. The game dropped at a much larger pace than most thought.

I still am baffled after seeing Pokemon games creep back to the charts year after year. Good, that franchise is really a pot of gold for Nintendo.

But I thought old whats-his-face said that the Pokemon games were a dying fad?

Drat. If you can't trust the GAF idiot, who can you trust?

Well, i said all along that it wouldn't sell as well. First week sales were slightly higher, yes, but this was mainly due to shortages when DQVII was released (which went onto sell another million week 2).

For comparison:

DQVIII
W1 2150
W2 500k
W3 200k
W4 125k

Total 2925k

DQVII
W1 1950k
W2 1000k
W3 350k
W4 150k

Total 3450k
Sold 4.11 m in all.

Suggests that despite Xmas rush (DQVIII will sell 100k+ for the next 3 weeks then drop off to 40k ish and keep dropping) it will "only" sell about 3.6m, which is definitely down on both DQ VII and also DQ III which did 3.77m back in the 80s.

But it has still outsold all other DQ games in Japan, as well as all FF games, so hardly a flop!

Top 20 hopefully? :(
Last daily chart update with the full top 20 was for the 18th:
http://game.goo.ne.jp/ranking/index.html

8 Dynasty Warriors
16 Everybody's Golf
18 Ridge Racers

4 Wario Touch
5 Mario 64 DS
10 Pokemon Dash

22nd should see a big jump in PSP game sales, Sony have promised the next big shipment of PSPs then. Note, Pokemon Emerald at 11 and Naruto at 13, so they didn't just suddenly pop out of nowhere.

Never called it a flop, simply said I didn't know why it wasn't selling better.

This is the day where Mario Party 6 begins to terrorize the charts. :O

Good. Mario Party 6 rules. The variations between the boards really mix up the main game and 95% of the minigames are a lot of fun (only a few stinkers, such as one random one where you have to pick a rope to swing on).

3 PS2 sony

7 DS/GBA/GC Nintendo

I don't know about you buy who put the hotsauce in my food!

and :) Glad to see Kojima's brilliant work being enjoyed accordingly. Goddamn US really let the ball drop by allowing MGS3 to bomb!

I don't get it. It's a famous name that has always sold well in Japan, it got good reviews, it's sort of a music game which is pretty popular over there, and the Japanese GC line up towards the end of this year has been awful. It should have sold.

Keep lapping up the Mario Parties you damn sheep. Hope you choke.

I'm not bitter.

The full top 20 for those who are interested.

20 PS2 Powerful Pro Baseball 11 Final Edition

When the dates fall as they do this year, then this week is the one that has the largest holiday push, so expect MP6 to be topping the chart over the next couple of days as it does 20k+ per day on route to 150k for the week. Expect a large surge in all other Nintendo-related games...

Even with only ~200k PSPs being out there i'd expect more games in the TOP20. What are people doing with their PSPs? Or are 50% of them still being shipped to foreigners who paid 500$ for it?

They're doing nothing. The initial batch of PSP owners are already game saturated. The numbers pretty clearly follow the trend. There's an initial rush of PSP owners buying one or two games and then bam it's a super decline.

There is nothing surprising about these numbers when you consider the facts.

Don't worry PSP fans, new stock has been confirmed to be on store shelves for the 22nd so we should see a PSP game invasion tomorrow.

Are you serious???

Dynasty Warriors and Everybody's Golf will linger around 15-20 for the next few weeks upto Xmas and do about 30-40k a week at best.

We'll see in a few hours, but yes I was serious, going on what a couple of the Japanese retail bloggers said they did get new PSPs in on the 22nd. I've since read DCharlie's comments in the PSP JP launch thread about not seeing new PSPs though.

If 100,000 hardware units were put on the market in one day and the demand is what is alleged then I'd expect a couple of PSP games will make the top 10, if not more, even at this time of year and with other launch games.

These two should lead the way on the daily since they're new releases:
