CESA has announced the winners of the Japan Game Awards 2024 during the Tokyo Game Show. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was particularly noted as the winner of the show’s most prestigious Grand Award. The same game also won the Best Sales Award for being the most-selling title in Japan in the 2023 fiscal year.

This award event primarily gave accolades to eleven games released between April 1, 2023, and March 31, 2024, in the form of Awards of Excellence based on votes from the Japanese public. One of those titles would then be selected to win the Grand Award. As a reference, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak was the Grand Award winner of the 2023 edition.
The 2024 edition notably had the additions of two new awards. The Breakthrough Award went to The Exit 8 for making a literal breakthrough in a new game genre. The Movement Award was given to Suika Game for expanding its influence to people who do not regularly play games as well.

Sony’s PlayStation console received an award from the Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry as it marks its 30th anniversary, with the console creator Ken Kutaragi receiving it. Meanwhile, Street Fighter 6 won the Special Award for its audio accessibility features.
