I imported 3 maximum the hormone albums last month, but Bu-ikikaesu and Yoshū Fukushū. These are some of the greatest Rock albums I have ever heard. Yoshi even came with a manga..... Can't read it but it looks interesting. Are there any other bands like these guys? There sound is so unique.

Also how do you pronounce these two albums lol

Found Tricot's A N D for less than $15 finally. Excited to have a physical copy. One of few albums from the last year or so I still have on repeat.

welcome to japanese pronunciation, where everything's made up and the rules don't matter

It's not hard for Europeans :p (at least French people and Italians)

I was more referring to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_pitch_accent

true, there aren't really any phonemes in Japanese that don't exist in english, french, etc, but if you're a native english speaker, breaking from a language with a predictable meter to one that is the complete opposite is hard.

and the cherry on top is that the pitch accent depends entirely on dialect. if somebody wrote those out in kansai-ben they'd be really different

why did I choose this language

So I went 10-15 pages back to look for more recs and I started listening to Yoru no Honki Dance's "Danceable" thanks to Kurita and I have to say this is a great album. So upbeat and just what I needed right now.

Anyone have recs for anything similar?

Highvision is best Supercar. It sounds kinda dated at times today, but I have a real affection for that album.

Jump Up sounds way more dated with all its goofy trip-hop trappings, tbh. but my heart belongs to Three Out Change. in hindsight it's probably for the best that they changed their sound because they were basically never going to top 3OC in the "Ride/Lush worship" style.

but man. 3OC is just like a greatest hits collection of all those psych/shoegaze bands that flourished in the wake of The Jesus & Mary Chain from like 88-92... except that it came out in 98. god-tier album.

first reply is perfect. who gives a crap if you like it or not, people are having a good time on both sides of the stage. it's harmless.

hardest thing that fucker's ever listened to is probably Anthrax

people who complain about something ruining metal almost universally have shit taste in metal.

Mint is such a hodgepodge of a song, but that is a really cool music video. I die for Namie with bangs.

Namie with a fringe or Namie in a hat is my aesthetic, I live for those moments. The guy who produced Mint has also done the b-side so I'm expecting something similar.

People who care too much about what other people listen to is something I'll never understand

You do you

This.

a lot of metalheads, more than other genre fans, want to define themselves by their musical tastes, and they get super butthurt when they feel their assumed identity being infringed on. and almost every time, the ones who cling to it the hardest also have the most shallow, surface-level appreciation of the genre. dudes who think Five Finger Death Punch are some sikk shit.

it's dumb. everything's dumb. the gaf metal thread is surprisingly half decent somehow though?

Metal is a lot of things and metal fans the same. There are many purists, especially when you're zoning in on sub-sub genres, and there are idiots who think metal is some raw manly thing - but metal is also one of the categories of music most open to gimmick and spectacle - that's partly where the genius of Babymetal lies - you get access to this theatrical genre where people dress up and role play fantasy characters already, so while some fans get angry, a lot of metal fans will be open to an experiment like this. And with the huge rock and metal festivals out there, they sort of jumped straight on to the main stage and got to play to tens of thousands immediately. Would other asian pop artists manage the same in any other genre? Even with hype? That live presence launched their broader attack on magazines, websites, charts.

I don't want to break character from "grumpy old fuck" but Babymetal were a blast and a half. Thought I knew what to expect from watching so many live shows, this was twice that. I think a big part of it is that the new songs are just so good live. I know I've said around here that Karate is the catchiest song I've heard all year. after seeing it live, it's a contender for best song of the year, period. if I have one complaint, it's that they only did one Black Babymetal song, and it was the one I wanted to see least (GJ!). Sis.Anger would have killed it.

special shout out to 99% of the audience for being normal, non-creepy, not-weird people. there was a family next to me and the father and little daughter looked like they were having the times of their lives together. right on, you guys.

Satomimagae / 塔 (official MV)
Satomimagae should be better known. This is new and very pretty music video to a song from her 2012 album. Really beautiful folk music.

this is good as hell

My wife was going on a last angry man soapbox style rant about geo locked services last night and then listened to it after our podcast. She absolutely loved it so I'm hoping I can do another pod and have her talk about it. She was so enthusiastic about it that I definitely wanted to give it a listen.

FUYUSURUNEKO released a double MV for their mini album out 5/25.

Just noticed that dreamusic finally got things settled with Youtube Red so there's another company off the list. Maybe the fact that Silent Siren is coming to the US this summer made them realize they might want to actually make their videos viewable here.

I probably miss out on a lot of acts that primarily do anison because I don't really watch anime, but I've been listening to the new fhana album and I'm impressed. I think they're a step ahead of most of the other music that belongs to whatever genre you'd call this, which I'm not usually the biggest fan of. Their songs have interesting twists and turns and generally just fantastic musicality.

It's interesting how metal fans tend to be either some of the most open minded or most close minded music listeners. The way some of them express disappointment when their heroes break the illusion and show interest in something cute is one of the funnier byproducts of Babymetal's existence. It's almost like some metalheads believe their favorite musicians are actually living a lifestyle of death and destruction 24/7 instead of just being people who are adopting a persona for entertainment. Perhaps they have more in common with hardcore idol otaku than they realize. At least idol fans understand when they're buying a fantasy.
