Xiu Xiu is still around? i did not know that.

The duo is going as strong as ever, which surprises me to this day. They have released 9 albums in 10 years. They are trucking along.

I am surprised they are playing in Cafe Oto though, that venue is really small, don't they have an audience?

I think they do, just not a massive one.

Also loving the Cabs album.

So I'm back here to talk about The Moonriders.

Hinotama Boy's a damn fine album: just the best mix of folk-rock, brass ballad arrangements, and kayo-kyoku in general. It's interesting to hear how good with melodies and unique moods Keiichi Suzuki and his crew were way back in the late '70s. I wish it was on YouTube, and I'll probably put it up on my channel when I get the time.

Their Gig was awesome and that Energy they put out in that small venue was surprisingly effective and, talking to them, they seemed some down to earth people.

I Went all the way to Brighton to See FACT and bloody hell did I miss them, I took a group Photo with them later promising them to see them live in London.

One of the band members was super funny when I talked to him:

Me: Sorry I missed your performance, That is the only reason I came all the way down from London.
Eiji: Sorry to hear that, Hope you see us in London then, since you live there anyway
Me: I wasn't planning to, but now I have to.
Eiji: Really? Well, as you said you have to
Me: By the way, where are the other band members. I want to take a group Photo with my friend with you lot there.
Eiji: I don't know, Probably Wanking. Don't worry about them, they will ruin your picture, Me an Kazuki are eough for a great Group photo.
Me: Lol

Consider me surprised but the last Ayumi Hamasaki albums were all good.

I like Love Again, it's not my favourite by her (Love Songs is my most recent favourite). I think Duty and Loveppears is still her best. The remix on her last mini-album is her best remix in awhile

They are not 100% Japanese band, but they have a Japanese member, I am going to see Xiu Xiu tomorrow at Cafe Oto which I am excited about.

I think the lady is Korean! But I was there too! Xiu Xiu is probably my favourite band and pretty much makes the bulk of my non-Japanese listening.

m-flo x Miliyah again! ! !
This is like almost "Let Go" tier.

Love it, love it. Checked this out on a whim last week and checked out Square One which I'm loving.

Same.
Maybe it will grow on me... I don't think anything will top JPN in my heart, love that album so much.

I still haven't heard it yet, I'm still trying to work through my capsule backlog, loving "Feelin' alright" at the moment

I watched their dome tour last week, loved it.

The Perfume song is a nice Doraemon theme -- it does sound like a Doraemon theme though and not much more, so I hope the b-side is better AND that the next full single sounds more.. unique. Pretty sure we'll get some more singles before an album.

What do you some of you think are essential listens for anyone with a casual interest in Japanese music? Like for someone who wants to get into it more and random anime themes aren't enough for them.

I'd say the pillows, Bump Of Chicken, Asian Kung-Fu Generation, Beat Crusaders...
Straughtener, Nothing's Carved In Stone, HY, Acidman, Fujifabric are also some must-listen imo.
Some of them did anime openings but their discography is huge so...
I introduced a friend to J-Music with Ellegarden, the HIATUS and ONE OK ROCK.

Anybody know of anywhere I can buy some digital JP music, aside form bandcamp and Itunes?

There's a lot on there between the two of them, but they're still missing a lot of stuff.

It's not for me. As you can see I post in this thread and I'm well acquainted with the bands you just listed. It's for a friend and he's not really interested in specific genres just stuff exemplary of the modern Japanese music scene.

I would say Sakanaction shows what modern Alternative music is all about in Japan, no?

Maybe Band apart?

Yeah Sakanaction is pretty popular right now. I ended up showing him the things I thought were "legendary" or "must listens" even though they may be out of time but he should know what's going down currently. Thanks guys!

that Kato Miliyah is the greatest japanese singer ever!

at least in my never ending & always changing list of favorite artists, she has been the most consistent and strongest out of everybody.

too bad not even Miliyah can bring m-flo back to their glory days when Lisa was still in the group lol.

Anyone remember hitomi?

(not the best examples of her work as whole but personal faves)

Her vocals weren't really up to much but her music elevated above the standards of Jpop and she is unbelievably gorgeous.
I still listen to all her current stuff, but I mostly will always remember her for her old school stuff:

but my favorite song will always be:

Ooh! I love Tetsuya Komuro but I think he gave her all his worst stuff during that period. Problem and Progress are great songs though.

I know there are some Perfume fans here, sooo:

An unreleased demo version of Polyrhythm leaked onto the internet a few days ago. It's the version that Perfume performed live at Summer Sonic 2007, before the actual Polyrhythm single was released. It seems to be an unfinished or early version of the final released track. How someone got a hold of it in such good quality, I do not know, as it was only ever performed live.

It's interesting to listen to. A lot of people seem to prefer this demo over the released version, but I don't. What's the point of Polyrhythm without the polyrhythmic part anyway?

Somebody probably copied it at one of those performances. I have to admit I was really itching to be able to do that back in my convention days for various acts I helped out with :lol

(though there wouldn't have been as much to the vocal track as in this one)

Oh man, I have been listening to Midori all day. This band is fucking amazing.
And like all good bands I discover they are of course recently disbanded. Oh well, at least they have released a couple of really good albums.

Mariko Goti, the vocalist of Midori have a single Album out right now and it has the same feel of her previous album. Not the Jaaz-fusion part but the punkish vocal and attitude. Check her out.

That Sakanaction song is really good. Can't stop listening to it.

Yeah, me too. I have been listening to it non-stop. I have a feeling that the new Album won't top DocumentaLy, so I'll keep my expectation down, but the new song is raising my hype towards it.

Also, I hope you guys realise the most important release next month is not from ONE OK ROCK nor Sakanaction. Not Even my beloved The Mirraz, but this :
