So idk if you guys have heard of Goose House. They sang the OP for the anime Shigatsu wa kimi no uso. They have all these amazing covers on their channel.

Their cover for Utada Hikaru's Automatic is great:

Been a fan of them since 2012 I think they're amazing. Their original songs are alright, but their covers are always good.
Some of my favorite covers :

It helps that I'm a fan of the original artists :lol

The new Shiina Ringo album hurts my ears, like literally. It's so loud. Like I'm listening to the recent Metallica albums. Shouso Strip was also kinda like this, I guess.
I found the album to be fairly mediocre overall, pretty much like I expected. Some of the new songs were interesting. JL005便で felt like it could've been really good, but my least favorite Shiina Ringo songs are the ones she sing in English. It just sounds so awkward.

Wow, just getting caught up with this thread. Been on GAF for awhile but never wandered around here.

Anyway, I didn't see anyone mention these, but Moumoon does monthly acoustic concerts that are really cool. They used to broadcast them on Ustream (and maybe they still do, not sure) and still post them to Youtube.

That was October's concert. There are a lot of them, so if you're a fan it's pretty cool.

SCANDAL - 「Image」

I love it!

Very catchy tune. I know Mami, who composed this song, has been hanging out a lot with tricot's Ikkyu and though they're different kinds of bands I think she's been influenced a bit with that instrumental bridge. It'll be very interesting to listen to the album because they've sorta been positioning it as their first real artistic statement.

RADWIMPS recently uploaded a live version of アイアンバイブル from their upcoming DVD/Blu-Ray.

Perfection.

Tokyo Karankoron announced their new album today, UTUTU, to be released on January 14th (lots of stuff coming heh)

Lead track is produced by Kameda Seiji from Tokyo Jihen.
Quite looking forward to it. I'm not a huge fan but their latest single is fucking amazing.

Sheena's album is great. I didn't follow the singles out of anticipation for the album so I'm currently obsessed with Carination. JL005便で is however probably becoming one of my favourite Ringo songs ever.

I watched the newest Sakanaction live Blu-ray recently. It was pretty fucking cool. I love the weird way Sakanaction has evolved from a pretty standard electro-rock/pop band to a band that will start a huge concert with a crazy 20 minute long version of a 5 minute long song (サンプル). A great setlist, with lots of interesting twists on old songs and some really clever transitions between songs. It also featured a hype as hell performance of the Ame(B) -SAKANATRIBE MIX most recently seen in the newest single. It's just a really well put together and entertaining show.

I guess Shiina will cover Travelling, which she did live recently. And Milyah's will probably be Automatic which was on her 10th anniversary album that came out last month.

Ringo's new album is all over the place. Obvious overproduction (far too loud) and old songs aside, I thought most of the new ones were kind of forgettable, not that there were that very many.
JL005便で was very untypical and also very very good even though I usually agree about English vocals. I need to give Reimport another listen.

Sounds like Ayu's song will be Final Distance?

Ayumi Hamasaki Will Contribute to Hikaru Utada Cover Album - The Pop Princesses’ Miraculous Collaboration

A cover album of Hikaru Utada’s (31; currently on hiatus) greatest hits is due to be released on December 9th, the same day as her debut. Titled “Hikaru Utada’s Songs”, it will feature 13 artists coming together in celebration of her 15th anniversary. Production is ramping up in advance of the CD’s release, and the latest news is that Ayumi Hamasaki (36), who faced off against Utada in the “Battle of the Pop Princesses”, will also be participating in the project.

According to Universal Music, who is producing the album, Hamasaki has already finished recording her track. The name of the song she covered has not been made public at this time, but is being referred to as “one of Utada’s well-known songs that was recut for a single.” Initially, Universal had planned for Hamasaki to cover another song, but she proposed that she record a different track.

Utada’s producer, Sachiko Kumagai, said the following: “They were two artists of the same generation that were involved in this ‘battle’ that shook up the musical world. We were a little worried that she wouldn’t be receptive to our proposal that she participate in recording a cover for the album, but we were thrilled that she immediately said yes.” Additionally, it seems that Hamasaki’s approach to her vocal techniques on this track is different from those she uses when singing her own songs.

Reports have stated in the past that when Utada and Hamasaki appear on music variety shows together, they can often be seen chatting backstage.

In March 2001, they both released albums on the same date, accounting for over 5 million units sold between the two of them within the first week of release. Utada’s “Distance” beat out Hamasaki’s “A BEST” in the immediate competition, but Hamasaki’s album sold more units by the end of the calendar year. It is now largely referred to as the “Battle of the Pop Princesses”, but given the upcoming release we may need to start calling it the “Collab of the Pop Princesses.”

Bought a punk CD in a discount bargain bin in Kawaguchi called "Fuck Are You Doing ??".

As you might expect, it is horrible.

Here are the lyrics to their closing track, "Fuck You. You !!":

Na-Na-nanana !!
Na-Na-nanana !!
Na-Na-nanana !!
Na-Nana-Na !!

Fuck you !!
Fuck you !!
Fuck you !!
You !!

Best 300 yen I ever spent.

THE ORAL CIGARETTES just released their first major album. Holy shit it's good.
Knew I was going to love but still, I'm impressed. Definitely proves that they're one of the finest young rock bands right now (well, their drummer is 30 but whatever, the other members are 23-24 :lol). They have everything : charismastic, they do amazing songs, they're likeable as hell... I'm going to be listening a lot to this album, at least until KANA-BOON's new single and Hitorie's new album in two weeks :lol

Hondana no Moyoko really impressed me with their first full album released today.
I wasn't really sold on them until this album, now I love their sound. It's a bit rough but that's part of the charm, and so is the vocalist's weird voice. They kinda remind me of a folk/pop-rock version of Shinsei Kamattechan. It can be quite catchy, but a couple of songs had some really sweet moments, especially near the end of the album. Great stuff, they're a promising band.

Perfume's London concert was a huge upgrade in production values from the previous one. They spoke lots more English this time round (probably better than the man translating the Japanese spoken parts)

I like the fact that it was seated too as you could see the girls clearly and there were plenty of militant ushers who clamped down on people filming or taking photos of the concert.

I'd probably rate Babymetal's concert a bit higher though.

I was hoping they would change the guy who was translating for them, it seemed Perfume themselves figured the guy wasn't translating very well when the audience didn't really react to what was being said. The show was fantastic though and I hope they stick to the same venue when they come back or another seated one, much better than last years.

~spoilers~

Surprised to see One Room Disco performed and GAME, I felt all kinds of 'feels' when the lightsabers lit up. The added choreo for Spending All My Time remix stood out to me a lot. Also, how amazing was that introduction with Enter the Sphere? ah....
I really like BRIGHTER DAY, but dislike SWEET KISSES so I'm not sure if I'll get the single

I think it's a really strong single, Still Lovin' You is great as well, SWEET KISSES could've been better but I'll take it for what it is.

Never knew this thread existed :O

Anyway this thread reminds me I still need to rip/listen to that Tricot single I bought a while back lol.

Also thank you to Kurita for that super long September/October post with all those recommendations :) My wallet is in for a world of hurt I predict ...

Glad to see people like DE DE MOUSE. :D

Another obscure band I'd like people to know more is Kuchiroro. They have this awesomely eclectic hip hop sound with electro and jazzy influence, it's quite criminal they don't get more exposure.

GOLDEN KING (my favorite track)
真夏のラストチューン (don't know the romaji, sorry)
COSMIC DANCE feat. HALCALI
00:00:00
snowflake

That one is "manatsu no rasuto chun". One last mid-summer's kiss

You're welcome.

Discovered NUMBER VOGEL and sumika this week, two pretty neat rock bands.

Might end up grabbing NUMBER VOGEL's stuff since it's on iTunes.

I was quite thankful for that as the guy in front of me was going wild. Enjoyed the concert and their English was too cute for me to handle.

Which row were you in?. There was a guy I saw in a row before mine who was just dancing throughout the whole thing, I'm not sure if he ever looked at the stage.

The Perfume show in LA was great too. No seats, but easy enough to get a good view if you didn't get too sucked into the pit. Lots of dancing going on. The audience translator was actually fluent so that was cool. GAME was a highlight for me too but it was all just awesome. I hope they come back soon.

I want Perfume to come back to France, damn it! I wonder if I'll get to experience 575 (favorite song) live before I die... :lol

There was a fair amount of French down for the London concert. I would quite like it if they do France next year, it will give me an excuse to spend a few days there.

For a second I thoght I was that one wild guy dancing during the whole thing you were talking about. I was looking at the stage during the whole thing though.

I think I was in row H~ I or something (changed my ticket with another guy that wanted to be close to their friend so I'm not sure). Very close to the stage, but also very close the leftmost seats.

Such a great experience. The energy during the whole thing was amazing. The setlist was so solid, and they were so cute interacting with the crowd. The lack of proper translator unleashed the ultracuteness of A-Chan explaining the rain and the sun shining thing.

Lovely experience, I regret not going last year. Taking all the chances to see them in Europe from now on.

I was on the left side too, on the edge of the walkway. Had to keep moving aside when the staff would walk up and down though. I will definitely make sure I'll be at all future European dates from now on. Can't really explain how much I enjoyed the show.

Those hand motions. I swear half of the audience were about to collapse from how cute it was.

Wanted to go, too but it's expensive heh I know some people who went to London for the show, I'm quite envious.
Their show last year in Paris was incredible. Last year was amazing, went to ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, Perfume and ONE OK ROCK's shows, three memorable concerts.

Cool how some of us were near each other at the concert and had no idea. I found a few other people through Tumblr who were basically in front of me. (I was row M).

I am already wondering when they will do another world tour...
With an album due next year and then a Japanese tour etc, I imagine either late 2015 or early 2016.
