Not enough Morning Musume in here. Their new album is amazing.

Track 11 somehow makes me think Tsunku could make a good F-Zero soundtrack.

Morimo? Are you trying to say MomoClo?

Anyway insane energy, great, always surprising singles, insane energy, some real joy and talent in performing, unlike many idol groups, and insane energy for their epic spectacle live shows.

I mean even setting aside the fact that both groups love the spectacle of dressing up MomoClo have collab'd with several JP rock and indie legends before and foreign artists as well (go team) so I wouldn't say it's too surprising, the only question is if KISS really have anything to offer anymore.

my guess would probably be "no" but we'll see. but yeah to kind of echo what you said, Momoclo have made it big on the back of

- being fun
- being more talented than the average idol group
- being unpredictable and awesome musically
- not being overtly sexual or submissive, which has led to them also having a huge female audience as well

they came along when something like them was sorely needed in the industry. as a side benefit, they've kind of allowed a wave of similarly-inspired groups to pop up in their wake. it's a nice change from the "I can't tell these girls apart" and "buy our gravure books!" method of idoling.

On another note entirely, that Ten Tenko song is great. I love her so much, glad to see she's kicking ass as a solo artist. Kind of patiently waiting to see what the rest of BiS are doing with their own new projects. Pour Lui's band isn't doing anything for me. Saki's group (Pla2Me) released a solid single. Nozomi and Uika (Billie Idle) haven't put anything out yet.

edit: catching up on the rest of the thread, I'm happy to see both Suiyobi no Campanella and Oomori Seiko getting some love. Can't wait for that new Oomori album

Only just heard Flower's b-side for 'Akikaze no Answer' and was surprised to see they covered Crystal Kay's '恋におちたら', they did an amazing job.

Caps Lock had some good songs on it but I feel like Nakata has no quality control anymore. Half that KPP album was bad, Perfume haven't had a good single in over a year. Dude needs to take a year off.

2014 it's probably the less active year for Nakata in a long time; KPP album and one Perfume EP, and that's it. And while it's true that there are some bad songs on KPP's, Cling Cling is a quite solid EP IMO.

I like Cling Cling but the Kyary album wasn't so good, I want her to work with new producers, I know she said she was working with Sophie and some others so hopefully something comes of it.

Heh I thought Perfume's singles were all pretty good.
No opinion on KPP I don't like her music.

What. Perfume is strong as ever and the last KPP album was her best one, much better than the crap that was Nanda Collection.

Man I could not agree with a post less. Relistening to GAME today only drove it home further. He's been cannibalizing his own material for so long that he loses sight of his own strengths. Every single "album version" on Pika Pika Fantajin is measurably worse than the original single. "Ring a Bell" is up there with "Hold Your Hand" for some of the worst songs of the year.

I'm only being this harsh because of how much I enjoy his actual successes as a producer.

Kyary is supposed to work with Yelle and I can't be more excited at the thought of that.

Hold Your Hand works well as a breather, you seem to forget the cute and playful ditties put on earlier albums, the I Still Love Us. Level 3 is great although I admit some of the album versions there too were inferior. As for KPP she was indeed best on her first singles and albums and new collabs are welcome and interesting, but Perfume still get the best out of Nakata.

The remixes on Level 3 worked because the whole album was basically nakata putting one of his dj sets on a cd. I loved it. Even if, like Caps Lock, it was almost a middle finger to the people he collaborates with. Fortunately it seems like he might actually let Toshiko sing more on the new Capsule.

My friends just sent me a picture from the a Mariko Goto concert they went to this week. Mariko took the camera from them and took a selfie with 'em.

KANA-BOON's lastest single is pretty amazing as expected. Fantastic title track but also extremely solid B-sides. バカ is a pretty unique and "agressive" song, didn't expect that from the band.

Speaking of KANA-BOON, I watched the latest Music Station since they were performing. What I didn't know was that they were doing a "VS Live" against Gesu no Kiwami Otome, where both bands played their latest song while facing the other. So good.

Listened to THE STARBEMS's second full album.
I didn't really have high expectations before listening to this album but I admit it surprised me. Some choruses sound straight out from some old BEAT CRUSADERS songs. Hidaka said it was more pop-oriented (don't worry, it still has a majority of hardcore elements) and it definitely felt like a cross between punk/hardcore and BEAT CRUSADERS. Great album! I especially like Vanishing City and The Midnight Sun.

Definitely saving the second one for future use.

Rika Mayama (Shiritsu Ebisu Chuugaku) released her first solo single, which is the opening song for the current season of Akame ga Kill!

It's metal as hell, and I think she might honestly be the best singer working for 3Bjunior these days.

edit: holy crow, Perfume singing -not- like robots? A-chan needs to do some solo stuff, it's not fair to keep that voice locked up behind vocoders.

Safe to say that Nogizaka46 got robbed. AKB48 is now the only female group bigger than they are, and yet they somehow still didn't make the cut.

Watching for SEKAI NO OWARI, Perfume and Arashi. Aside from that the line-up is not really exciting for me as usual.

Been listening a lot to CreepHyp this week since their new album is coming in 3 days. The band released a digest version of the album. Everything sounds amazing.

Footage is from a "live" with no audience they did in a strip-club, which will come with the limited edition of the album.

It's kinda boring when they aren't doing electro-pop imo

well I mean it's a Disney medley or whatever, most of us here are not exactly the target audience.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (3)
Sheena Ringo (2)
Perfume (7)
Momoiro Clover Z (3)

that's all I really care about, and Momoclo are probably just going to play Moon Pride (barf) and Naitemo Iindayo.

Nogi not being there is kind of odd. They had a good year until those scandals recently. I guess they could have been robbed because of that? I don't remember them making it last year either though so who knows.

was there more than that one girl hooking up with the married dude? that's the only one I remember.

I haven't looked too much into this one but I'm pretty sure Yamato Rina got caught as well. It wasn't as blown up as the Sayuri one though.

To be fair they haven't been singing like robots for some time now. They did a live version of Hold Your Hand on their recent tour which was nice, A~chan was even harmonising towards the end. They could start to sing more recent songs live but we'll see.

Ring a Bell really sucks. However the previous albums also have their Ring a Bell. PPR has みんなのうた (which is her worst song IMO) and きゃりーANAN, and Nanda Collection had のりことのりお and くらくら. In fact all of her albums are pretty mixed, with some awesome songs and some bad songs. And I say PPF is her best one, because the good songs outweigh the bad ones more than on the other albums.

And that's on the limit for me. He manages to produce great songs in midst of some awful ones, just enough to keep me interested. Se if they keep working together it's fine by me. By contrast, I think we all can agree he destroyed MEG. And thankfully KPP hasn't got to this level yet. But if it does reach, then yeah, Nakata has to go.

Beat me to it. :p

she can really do no wrong by me. bonus points for dropping an f-bomb 30 seconds into a bubblegum pop song

edit: pretty in-depth interview with Oomori: http://natalie.mu/music/pp/oomoriseiko02

I wish I understood more of it. :( I did at least pick up on the part that said she only plans on doing the artist thing for a few more years and then wants to become a producer. something about "nobody wants to see an old hag do this"

Nogi not being there is kind of odd. They had a good year until those scandals recently. I guess they could have been robbed because of that? I don't remember them making it last year either though so who knows.

There was also some fan speculation that Sony may have rejected an offer for them to appear to give them more motivation to push next year for it. But we'll probably never know. It'd be sad if the scandals held them out. It's not like they were the only one with them this year. I think the biggest one was Milky getting caught of the second time, and now she even has her own single coming out.

Hopefully there are no nasty surprises like last year when Yuko announced her graduation. KojiHaru is the one that people are always nervous about now.

Hikki's official channel started posting previews of the cover songs for her tribute album

AI - FINAL DISTANCE

Inoue Yosui - SAKURA Drops

KIRINJI - Keep Tryin'

Shiina Ringo - Letters

Nice to hear that they aren't straight covers and the artists are putting their own twists on them.

Man have not kept up with AKB at all in the last year. After JTV and subsequently channel on youku my Japanese tv watching took a nose dive. Need to find a place with an archive of akbingo cause it looks like I missed some good stuff.

I need more Vaporwave like Especia and テンテンコ. Someone, help, please.

For all my bitching about Nakata, this doesn't sound like anything he's done lately.

maybe a little too close to dubstep for my tastes, but real (not vocoded) Toshiko is back~

That sounds good.

And yeah, Toshiko seems to have a lot of lines in the new songs from what I've heard.
