Japanese RE4 censored? (need US confirmation)

Ummm, I'm playing the Jpn RE4 and when you do a 'headshot' with the pistol or the shotgun up close to a villager it does the chunks flying head exploding animation....but the head is still there. The enemy falls down and despite having just had chunks flying from them, the model lying on the ground is in perfect condition no parts missing.

I've tested a bunch of times at different ranges and there is no way to decapitate a villager with the shotgun. Now I played the US demo at E3 and I was pretty sure you could decapitate them. Can someone with the US version tell whether you can or not?

Could be. In the Japanese Famitsu demo Leon's head never got cut off by the chainsaw man like in the US version.

But then again, you could shot the villagers head of in the famitsu demo.

Oh, and it's quite easy to get a headshot with the shotgun in the US version.

lemme just say this:

FUCK

Man, I wonder if this is worth getting a freeloader + US RE4. Having all the gore missing is really gonna take something out of the game :(

That sucks man :( I wonder why they censored the japanese version. Maybe Famitsu took a point of for that :P

I'd say keep playing up to where you get the rifle (1-2?). If you don't even explode some heads with that, then we have some serious problems here!

To get an idea of what the decapitations look like, check out www.nintendo.com/residentevil4, and after loading the site click on the image of the rifle crosshairs over the female villager's head. There are several short clips with lots of gore and exploding heads aplenty.

Damn, I just watching the clips with the shotgun and the Jpn version is nothing like that. Just a crunch sound with blood flying but no parts fly off and the enemies just fall on the ground.

Ugh, Capcom you suck. Next thing you know Shadow of Rome will be censored too.

wait a minut are you at 1-1? I don't think you can get headshots BEFORE you enter the village. Or it is atleast harder to do it. What chapter are you on again?

1-2. :(

did you read the famitsu review? They should have adressed this issue I guess.

I don't think the Japanese press would mention it since any version outside of Japan doesn't 'exist' to them. :(

Err, how is that even going to work?

Later on, when the Las Plagas show themselves in the villagers, their heads often explode only to reveal the actual parasite seconds later. If the heads remain in tact, it would end up looking glitchy. Yet, if THOSE heads explode, it would basically be the normal head shot effect.

It isn't a huge deal, I'd say, but part of what makes RE4 so good is that it FEELS really good to fire your weapon. The combat just feels so awesome and the reactions of each enemy plays a role in this.

You can get headshots in 1-1. It isn't always an immediate thing, but you can still cause them to explode...

I read about the difference (censor) a month before the game was released, and yes, it is true that the Japanese version of the game was censored. The super bloody scenes in the US version are removed as posted by the people who played both versions in local newsgroups.

I will still buy the Japanese version since all my previous BHs are Japanese versions.

What's the deal with Freeloader and 2 disc games? I'm just gonna get the US version at this point :(
what's the deal? as in are there any problems using freeloader with games spanning two discs?

no, not from what i've been told by people who have done what you're talking about.

Now I appriciate your info when you post Maskrider, but this is one case where it would've been very very nice if you had posted this news here so some of us didn't just blow 8000yen ^^;

Ok phew, that's what I meant. Sorry I wasn't clear on that. So when you open up the system and stick the next disc in it won't give you a "wrong region code" screen or anything right?

Even if it did, the game makes a save for you before switching discs, so you could simply restart your Cube with freeloader and use disc 2...

On a side note, anybody else miss "I fear the man deer"?

ouch!

btw. the freeloader 1.06b works fine with 2 discs

edit: or you could mod your system to play US games. I have a japanese gamecube and it's modded to play US games as well.

Sorry, I didn't pay much attention to it during the past month (than just reading some posts about it) as all my full concentration was on GT4 since I got it.

I read about the confirmation from those guys right after the Japanese version BH4 was released.

BTW, I still haven't buy BH4, heh ! :)

You can sell it to me if the total (with shipping) can be around US$50, but that will be pretty hard on you. The offer last until I bought mine.

Since this thread is about the JPN version, can anyone else list the changes? CVXFREAK posted something about the easy difficulty and censorship in the official thread, and "etc."

When you start the game you get Normal or Easy difficulty choice. Normal says 'international difficulty' while easy says 'beginner to middle range difficulty'

Hmm yea I guess if I had read the offical thread I'd have known about the censorship, but I think most of us in Japan are staying out of the official thread for fear of spoilers.

Nah, don't worry about it. I'll keep the bonus dvd and sell the game used at the store tomorrow. Hopefully should get at least 4000yen.

In the US version after you decapitate the villagers
sometimes they keep attacking you even though they have no head.

Yeah, that's suppose to happen...don't read this post until you beat chapter 1, but I'd like to know if this is somehow censored

While were here can someone tell me how the funk you do a suplex to kill people?

Ive tried shooting them in the legs/thighs/knees and running over to them to try and get the suplex command thing and its never appeared.

Say someones walking towards me what would I do to suplex them...?

Shoot them in the calf, if they fall to their knees then walk towards them and press A when the suplex button option pops up. The key is you can only suplex if they're on their knees. And you can't do it on the enemies in the first part of the game, it only works after
you leave the village
.

To get a nice visual of the censorship, try to remember Code Veronica for Dreamcast. All the headshots with the shotgun in the world, but no head would fly off. Just a big splatter of blood and then the zombie falls. It really is that lame.

Yeah, I even tried headshots with the rifle and it's exactly like that. A little blood and they fall down.

You can only perform the suplex when they're on their knees like they are about to give Leon the biggest blowjob in his life!

And as the spoiler says,
you can't really suplex until you're pretty much up to the castle, with the monks
. Otherwise he just gives them a nice hard side kick.

I can see the need for an easy mode for the previous RE/BH games, but RE4 is not hard at all.

Does Leon just fall over when a chainsaw makes contact with his neck? Can the
parasites chew off Leon's head
?

So are any of the previous games really censored or modified in some way besides difficulty modes? Reports on GF mention RE 0 and CVX as victims of the scissors.

While we're on this subject, I would like to know other instances where the JPN verison is inferior.

Oh, and I'm especially curious about
the acid spat out by the insects which can literally melt off the skin covering Leon's face
. That was actually kinda nasty looking. :P

This is payback for the head-asploding censorship in our DC Code Veronica.

What I don't understand is, if you have to use a Freeloader to play the japanese game on your US Gamecube...

Never mind. I really don't care.
