Ready or Not will be censored on PC upon console release next month...

Real life is shooo scawy.

Am I missing something or is the outrage really about nudity and after-death dismemberment is a Police Sim game?

its more about censoring a game you already own just like this
The "Boldly resist all forms of vulgarity censorship" program they install in people starting around 1980 looks puzzling once you break out of it. It's literally so this small developer can sell their game in countries that democratically voted for content restrictions in media products.

Does anyone really think they're doing it for no reason or just to be prudes?

"I'm mature enough to look at tits and these nazis took them out of my police sim game just so they can continue to generate income for their stupid company"

I just wish gamers jumped into action this resoundingly when they started censoring certain types of speech. I guess tits and gratuitous gore is a bridge too far.

the top line of your post is it and the fact that the dev does not want to make 2 skus do to laziness.

Laziness? A second sku just so you guys can see that virtual tit and blow the limbs off already dead bodies? In a game where the goal is to try and not kill people?

You can roll back to previous patches on Steam. It's a bit of a hassle, but I've done it for Fallout 4 so I could play London. And if that doesn't work, there will no doubt be a mod that puts all of it back in.
With enough backlash they'll leave it on PC too. At least our friend below did and asked a refund. Best thing I've seen him do in a long time.

Not really but that's okay

As many of you know, Ready or Not will be toning several things down due to demands by the console publisher. In this video we're discussing that, the change that applies to the gore side of the game, and what it may mean beyond that.

Devs released a statement (shows before and after pics)....it's not good. They basically said "we understand your concerns but it's not that bad guys look!"

I don't like the censoring, but, as the comparisons show, it is not so huge and is not a major concern for me.

Laughable effort. Tone deaf. Minimal work for quick cash grab from console players. I hope the console version sells poorly.

I will never get why gore, brutal take-downs and even the depiction of torture is allowed but as soon as some boobies are shown, it must be censored away.

No one can tell me that boobies or a penis are worse than someone getting beheaded stylishly with a sword or something.

I've just submitted a refund request, although I doubt it will be approved since the game has been in my library for nearly five years. With any luck at least the devs will see that people want their money back.

Anyone had any luck getting a refund based on the censorship issue?

Is it possible to get a refund after so long?
Potentially, its will looked at by a human as its past the automatic threshold. But iv had two games refunded outside of these requirements due to major changes on steam that where far outside of these time periods (one was a complete change from early access to launch)

Since its a human decision it is likely based on your account, how much you spend vs how often you refund. I also specifically asked them to update my steam wallet vs refund to my card, as I thought that was fair, I keep the money on steam just spending it somewhere else.

This is quite honestly the weirdest situation I've heard of considering what else is available on other systems

None of this makes sense.

My guess is that nudity is only permitted by certain rating boards / content regulators when the character made the choice to be naked. That's why Mass Effect can have a sex scene with nudity over 20 years ago or whatever and that's fine, but opening a truck and finding naked sex trafficking victims is different. Again, that's only a guess, but I'm betting I'm right.

don't care about the changes, but more like how it was done. Characters already look weird, that child in bed didn't look great, but now it looks even more like some lowpoly model from 10 years ago.
same with the hostages in underwear. looks like some default underwear texture that comes with unreal or something like that.

I like how the pictures of minors were removed and an anime picture was added lol

Aye, thinking about it, you've got a point

Buuuut, and a big butt. This game is still rated at 18+

18+ films have all of the above, and more. So what is the actual meaning of the rating if this infantile nonsense happens to the game rated for adults. It's all a bit moot.

That's what happens now we live in a fairy society, people getting upset at out, and developers cutting content or changing the original art etc of the game to keep the minority of people who wouldn't buy there game happy

I didn't actually notice most of the content they're cutting out - I either haven't played it enough to get to some of those scenes or I wasn't very observant.

It's a matter of principle to request a refund, though. This is like if Capcom decided to censor everyone's original copies of Dead Rising to reflect the pussification of the remaster. I voted with my wallet and didn't buy the remaster, just like I would never have bought Ready or Not if I knew they were going to tone it down at a later date.

Too bad I already have 40 hours in the game or else I would've asked for a refund.
I'm not that observant so most of these changes I probably wouldn't even notice, but it's the principle that I don't like.
Should've at least make the effort to keep the PC version unsanitized. It's a lot of work because it needs to be 2 different builds? Well too bad, the money they'll make from consoles more than will make up for it.

Might be worth requesting a refund as a protest.

They denied my request, as I expected them to, and it was so quick that I doubt it was ever reviewed by a human, but I'm hoping the devs will at least see some stats for refund requests, and realise that this will have an effect on any future games or DLC they release.

devs need to stop catering to console platform holders.

just say you won't release it unless it can release uncensored, and if they say no, go public about it.
the backlash will make them let you keep it as is.

and it's not like the game needs the console sales. most devs sell the majority on PC now... the consoles are the ones that need games, not the other way around anymore.

You won't get a refund, but feel free to drop a neg. review

As someone who doesn't support censorship, that's been a worry of mine - that devs can go in after purchase and censor a game. This should not become a precedent and I hope yours and other refund requests are granted.

Edit: Saw after I posted that your refund was denied. That really sucks.

All I got was an auto-generated refusal saying "We are unable to refund this purchase to your Steam Wallet at this time. Your playtime of an included product exceeds 2 hours (our refund policy maximum)."

So nobody actually looked at the refund request or the reasons behind it. I'd certainly never support these developers again, but I hope they take note of the widespread disapproval of their censorship.

Lol, you dont get to refund steam games after years of purchase and dozen hours played. Their policy is crystal clear.

If I didn't buy this off a key site you can bet your ass I'd get a refund

Also, to anyone else, you can still get a refund. Just appeal or do another request and ask for a one time refund, be appreciative etc. Atleast that has worked for me in the past with a couple games, Cyberpunk and Wolcen.

Void were not lying when they said that they couldn't handle maintaining separate build. They can barely maintain this build. The Wick AI aim is back. SWAT AI is dumber than ever before. Gimped down the graphics to "optimise" and relied on mods to bring the OG content back.

Don't bother buying it on PC nor console. Just buy SWAT 4 on GOG.

It's frustrating to see censorship. I don't appreciate the PC players blaming those of us on consoles though. We don't want things censored either. I think it's laughable that post-mortem dismemberment is not allowed. Nudity as well. It's a double standard though. There have been games with full-frontal nudity on consoles with physics. Now, it's beyond the pale? Gore is touted in The Last of Us: Part II but we gotta limit it here. If they stopped trying to be censorious losers they could focus on releasing better games.

Censorship is one thing, but downgrading the PC version? Holy moly. If you can't support at least 2 builds (1 for all console models) then maybe you should stick with what you've got?

Yeah, seems like they purposely downplayed the censorship as minor changes to appease to Sony but many of those changes are actually quite meaninful. And not only that they even downgraded the graphics on PC as well which makes no sense to me, isn't UE5 supposed to be scalable?
Why the fuck couldn't they keep a higher preset of textures and the likes for PC?
Oh well, I enjoyed the fuck out of this game already but I know I won't buy another game from these devs ever again or even new DLC for this game unless they do some extreme course correction.

Let's hope Six Days in Fallujah will actually become feature complete soon enough.

Another reason why PC is living in a digital dystopia. If we could actually own these games we could just, not update it, but on Steam thats not a possibility.

I love Ready Or Not, played since the Early Access and have my Pre-order PS5 version. It is disappointing and even kind of weird, why? On games like GTA V you even torture someone, record people having sex in one mission and using drugs, but this is just "too much"?

I still like Void interactive, and Im against this by all means, but I still love Ready Or Not. Dissapointed more than mad tbh

Didn't bother to do it before but now I just felt compelled to request a refund. I'm 99% sure it'll get rejected but I had to do something.
I've seen many people on Steam forum and reddit saying they requested refunds so my hope is that people request so many refunds that Valve notices something's happening and actually confronts Void about it.
Even if it leads to nothing more than that at least it'll send a message, perhaps put some fear into Void's management so that they stop fucking around even more.

I'll be sure to never support this studio. This kind of behavior means I never want my money going to them. Downgraded PC graphics too? Disgusting.
