Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush was not in Iowa on caucus night, but his cash certainly was. The former Florida governor spent more money in Iowa than any other candidate and still lost big in Monday's state caucuses.

According to ad-buy data collected by Morning Consult, Bush and his super PAC, Right to Rise, have spent about $14.1 million on ads in Iowa. That's more money than any other presidential candidate has spent in the state. And ultimately, the return on investment for Bush was dismal.

Is this the most embarrassing election campaign of all time? Besides, I have never seen any politician get destroyed and emasculated so badly by another candidate (Donald Trump).

He's never going to live this down but for some reason he just refuses to quit.

And yet, all the other candidates have already pissed away most of their money, while Jeb! still has shitloads left to spend on winnable states.

He's behind by a ton, sure, but he has the most money by a considerable margin and that can't be discounted.

Jeb!'s self-implosion has been glorious to watch unfold, because his family "dynasty", for lack of a better term, got in on charisma which Jeb apparently rolled a -5 in. Every one of his ads has been cringe inducing, his refusal to drop is still splitting the establishment, etc.

Being on an Arrested Development rewatch lately, it's kind of hilarious how much Jeb's fortunes have aligned with Gob's. Hurwitz and co. knew exactly what they were doing.

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
Jeeeeeeez. Jeb's campaign is like the Sam Worthington of politics. They just keep pushing it on us, even though nobody seems interested.

How do you even spin that level of spending given his results.

I think they would have if he remained even a little bit competitive. If he was in the top 3, i could see them pulling a swerve for him

Trump is doing well in Florida, Rubio and Jeb's home state.
Jeb is polling in 4th place there

the end could be there

Please do a math problem for me?

How many votes would he have needed to win?
With the current total money spent, how much would he have spent on each vote in that case?

Would it still be more effective to buy votes?

Jeb's campaign absorbed a lot of the Romney 2012 people didn't it?

Boy those people are really building up a track record of absolutely pissing away large sums of money to little effect.

So, Jeb came in behind than Rand Paul, who wasn't invited to the last debate because of poor polling.

Will the GOP find some way to justify inviting Jeb but not Rand to future ones? Will they just reinvite Rand? Will they force their chosen boy out?

Gonna be fun to see whatever happens.

How anyone other than Trump, Cruz, Rubio and maybe Carson can justify staying in this race is a mystery to me.

I just want a good behind the scenes docu or book on Jeb's campaign. Cause I could swear in 2012 he was the chosen one, all but anointed the GOP's savior.

But fast forward to today and every day there is a story about how lame he is.

I would have spend minimal money in Iowa if I'm Jeb. There's no way anyone can budge Trump and Cruz in that overrated and overpriced battleground.

Money doesn't buy elections.

It buys a narrative.
Big money has been used to sell us on "limited government", "trickle down economics", votes in congress, and relaxing regulatory agencies.
It is used to fund think tanks.

All the money in the world can't make us like Bush. The Kochs are generally content funding their think tanks which in turn churn out a ton of related conservative content.

I'm glad to see the established system failing, but I feel a little sorry for Jeb! He seems like a nice guy, but low energy.

Sadly, money is still ruling american "democracy", even though some rich people have wasted money on Jeb!.

Clearly Jeb can't stand up on stage and talk about wasteful spending anymore ...

I mean, I guess he could've won Iowa by just outright paying for votes at that rate.

I wonder how radically different this race would've been for Bush without Trump.
