President-elect Donald Trump has settled on Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions for attorney general, according to two sources.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Trump has formally offered the job to Sessions, a lawyer who was an early and ardent Trump backer, but the sources said Trump wants Sessions in the role.

Just a reminder of who Sessions is

At Sessions' confirmation hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee, four Department of Justice lawyers who had worked with Sessions testified that he had made several racist statements. One of those lawyers, J. Gerald Hebert, testified that Sessions had referred to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) as "un-American" and "Communist-inspired" because they "forced civil rights down the throats of people."[13]

Thomas Figures, a black Assistant U.S. Attorney, testified that Sessions said he thought the Ku Klux Klan was "OK until I found out they smoked pot." Sessions later said that the comment was not serious, but apologized for it.[14] Figures also testified that on one occasion, when the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division sent the office instructions to investigate a case that Sessions had tried to close, Figures and Sessions "had a very spirited discussion regarding how the Hodge case should then be handled; in the course of that argument, Mr. Sessions threw the file on a table, and remarked, 'I wish I could decline on all of them,'" by which Figures said Sessions meant civil rights cases generally. After becoming Ranking Member of the Judiciary Committee, Sessions was asked in an interview about his civil rights record as a U.S Attorney. He denied that he had not sufficiently pursued civil rights cases, saying that "when I was [a U.S. Attorney], I signed 10 pleadings attacking segregation or the remnants of segregation, where we as part of the Department of Justice, we sought desegregation remedies."[15]

He later clarified, ’I lied. The Ku Klux Klan has always been okay with me.'

Jeff Session: "We are in a post racism America as such I don't think we need to resort so many resources toward Civil Rights Act or Voting Rights Act enforcement!"

On the first day on the job.

Calling the NAACP "un-american" is racist? Come on, they are really reaching. It is pretty clear he won't be a personal champion of PoC but that doesn't mean he will pursue a racist agenda.
He doesn't need to pursue a racist agenda. He'll just probably ignore it entirely!

Do... I even want to go down the rabbit hole of why you feel and think this way? (fuck Poe's Law, I trust no one after this election)

Plus, pursuing a racist agenda is much different from turning a blind eye or being indifferent to things of racial import which has negative repercussions for said PoCs (which Sessions has actually done). So let's exacerbate by that problem by putting him as head legal counsel of the country.

Hold on to your weed, America.
Sessions is one of the most rabidly anti-cannabis politicians in the nation, and a self professed "Fan of the DEA"

This level of trolling or stupidity is why racism is being normalized.

Can't believe I am reading something like this in 2016. He's a racist.

We've honestly been through this before, but this time there is no hiding the racism that plagues this country. People may still try to deny it though.
Man I didn't want to have to put up with 1960's-1970's level policing in 2017. It's about to get much worse.

The no weed thing isn't going to sit well with /pol/
They voted for it. There's definitely a bit of a silver lining there knowing these morons had no place peddling their bullshit not even understanding what Trump's Presidency would really look like. Their quality of life is only going to get worse, and as cold as it sounds that makes me happy.

What will they do when Trump kills net neutrality and it becomes harder for them to listen to EDM and make fun of black people on twitter? Poor babies!

Scary times for PoC. I don't see Sessions pursuing any civil rights cases against police brutality and I only see the FBI's reach expanding even further to target minorities. Stay woke people.
