Both. At least the tools will get better. Won't change their being a gap though

Relevant once again.

The Microsoft PR team have to walk a minefield each time they wake up in the morning. I've never seen a company shelter so many of their weaknesses; then just plainly walk out and BS to every extent that they can.

Back when I was working on a few cross-platform 360/PS3 games; it was around the time that Kinect was being announced and spewed to the world. There was also a document Microsoft circulated with 10 known problems with Kinect; which they were aware of and working on. I mean completely game breaking things; which most ended up quickly being found out by users after release; as none were addressed even after release.

It was awkward watching them pitch the kinect to the public; knowing the key topics they were avoiding.

:/

Right... no one at the Microsoft PR division can possibly know the resolution of the games on their platforms; give me a fucking break. They knew shit was going to hit the fan when they put that embargo in place and planted Penello on this forum.

How can there be an embargo established to not leak these specific resolutions; yet someone like Penello is completely unaware of this hot topic? Really?

Jesus fucking Christ. Microsoft truly pushes themselves on hiding secrets. Shit like this irks me. Took nearly two years to admit the RRoD was their fault.

Blaming the tools obscures some major flaws in the hardware design. I think it could run cod at 1080p because cod is pushing the boundaries of 2002, but there are still major issues. It's like a smokescreen.

I do think it doesn't look very good at all, but you're not the only one. The XB1 is the system that most excites me right now, even though I'll also be grabbing a ps4 later.

A lot of people won't know. And even some that do, just won't care. For those where this is a major issue. Well, they'll go grab each game for the PS4. Pretty straightforward.

They will care if the asstorm CBOAT prophesied comes to fruition. Supposedly there is something worse looming over launch.

If I had to guess what the 1st day issues would be, it would have to be in regards to the patch for drm. Or disconnecting the Kinect. One of those or both, probably have an issue.

I really hope Microsoft works their butts off so that by holiday 2014 X1 looks a lot more attractive than it does now. Get devs to come to grips with the eSRAM. Tighten up the OS(s) and UI. Drop the price to match PS4 and get a 60fps Halo out there.

By Dec 2014 I just might be in the market for a $399 X1 with some freebies.

If Sony can come back from the disastrous PS3 reveal & launch in 2005/2006 and early days of 2007 then sell about as many PS3's worldwide as 360's by 2010/11 then there's no reason why Microsoft can't make One into a whole new ballgame by say, 2015.

For now I'm getting the PS4 but I don't want either console to get TOO far ahead of the other. Keep each other "honest" LOL.

If people are still willing to invest $500 on Xbox One I don't think anything else will change their mind.

I'm definitely not changing my mind. The early days of the PS3 made me very humble in terms of pointing at another system and laughing at it. A little patience goes a long way and like the PS3, the Xbone will find its footing eventually.

Was this already posted? I can't keep up with this thread.

So Microsoft got shafted by a publisher/developer they have been pouring money into for almost five years?

I definitely think some of the contracts (Activision, EA) will be cut short as early as next year.

Ok when you said it, lets hope more members read it. I wrote similar comment and so did someone else.

Gies is blowig smoke. "Yeah MS did wrong tools are not the best.....but they will get better and everything will be fine" . Is what he says in between the lines.

The only thing Destiny and Halo share are the genre.

Nothing else, don't be ignorant

and a futuristic sci fi setting with space and all....oh, and the developers.

hahaha

i think i just found gold:
I've been looking for proof of this 720p thing for a couple of days now. Still haven't found it. People seem to think that because we haven't seen 1080p footage, then the xbox one must not be capable of doing it. I haven't seen any PC 1080p footage either, but I'm not going to question whether it's possible on that platform.
If BF4 is 720p@60fps, then why wouldn't Ghosts be 1080p@60? BF is much more demanding of processing power than COD. Ryse is 900p, and it is an open world game. Doesn't it stand to reason that Ghosts would at least be 900p?

If this was the case, CBOAT wouldn't disguise the posts made. More stuff would come out. Mods, mortimer and co would outright say things, instead of what they have to do now.

Mortimer's real name isn't exactly hidden. CBOAT works for MS or is attached to them in some way, so he obfuscates so he doesn't lose his job. Mods want to verify information from reliable sources before giving the go ahead, in order to avoid liability for certain things said.

And you want them to hurl themselves into that situation because you want the hot scoops? How is that fair?

Hot scoops? We're talking about doing the right thing here and potentially minimizing harm to consumers. I don't pretend to know how serious the issue is, but, generally speaking, you don't blanket embargo your console a week or two before it's set to release unless shit is bad. If this thing is bricked/fucked/crashing, people need to know. If it's not doing what it was advertised as doing, people need to know.

Giving the media a free pass on sitting on this info holds back the entire industry. Players large and small shouldn't be able to get away with this. We're not asking them to distort the truth, only to report what they know.

What did I miss? Summary please?
Everything is 720p. CBOAT and the mod party dropped Truthfacts about esram being the issue here, and there is far bigger revelation that we don't know about.

GAF exploded with sarcasms, preorder cancellations, hilarity, Geis being Geis, rest of critics breaking embargo while we all wait for this thread to reach critical mass.

All that while MS PR stays quiet.

I'm a sad old man who tends to spend 90% of my gaming time on racing games on console and PC. So as long as the Xbox One isn't made of spider-wasps and cancer I'm still going to be there on day one playing Forza (and I have a PS4 preordered too). I follow all this stuff, I know the Xbox isn't going to be the most powerful console, but it has an exclusive I will play regularly for a couple of years. Two years from one product is good value for money for me - I'm still playing Forza 4.

But I can still understand why everyone is also having a lot of fun with all this commotion. Folks like a good bloody console war. I remember the Spectrum v C64 arguments in the playground at school.

For now I'm happy to look forward to the games I want to play and enjoy watching all the fun play out here. I don't do console wars because I'll go where the games I want to play are - but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy watching the fun.

But I am also watching for something serious that might affect my experience of the two new consoles. Obviously the bigger issue comes if there's something seriously wrong with Xbox One at launch. I lost two X360 consoles to the RROD.

Yeah, I'm kinda in the same boat, hardware troubles at launch would definitely spoil the party for me, so if there are reveals to be had, I'm definitely looking forward to those. As for the rest, all this twitter war is making my head hurt.
You're also right in saying this is a good old console war we have here but the gloating from some posters in here like it's a personal victory or something is quite puzzling to me. Recently, it feels like more people are interested in seeing a product fail than looking forward to new games coming out :/

Has that ever been done before? How big would such a patch be?

A patch that just changes the resolution probably wouldn't be large at all but the magical patch that finds the extra performance needed to double the pixel count and maintain the target framerate is a different story.

people are already writing articles about it, i accidentally found this on yahoo, wasnt even looking for it.

You need at 50 inch TV for a 20-20 human eye to even see the extra clarity of 1080p. Even then it is only viewable from distances of less then 8 feet and only barely.

For 95% of people who can't tell the difference (like me), title selection and price will be the final determination.

Nothing like jumping on the anti-Xbox bandwagon it seems. As Sven said, the PS3 is probably just as much superior to the 360 as the PS4 is to the Xbox One. The best game graphic wise I have ever played, was on the 360.

Get out of Sony's pocket with these articles, you lose credibility. GAMES make consoles, NOT graphics. If that were the case, we would never see any gaming consoles because everyone would be on PC. Idiots.

sounds like Wii fans circa 2006

Thank you! That last tweet from Arthur Geis is designed exactly for that reason. Get people thinking things will be equal in the future because the only problem is the tools.

With the need for the XB1 to support Kinect, Windows 8, NuAds, and Snapping apps with fast switching, I believe I have stumbled upon secret video footage which documents how Microsoft's management crafted the masterpiece that is the Xbox One.

Never seen this movie now I'm stuck watching the whole thing. Thanks, and that sounds exactly how the kinect thing got lumped in with the system. Heck PS4 was close to having the same thing happen. Maybe the PS3 had ideas thrown at adding the PSeye as well because I remember rumors of PS3 having a built in camera and people was upset then about the camera spying on them.

If anyone is dumb enough to throw $500 dollars down on the next console from the people who brought you 3 red lights then they deserve to crash and burn.
Right on dude. Call lots of people on here dumb, for having a different opinion than you. I mean hey I threw away 600 on a launch PS3 that YLoD on me after a year and wouldn't be replaced but for sure man, I'm the dumb one. Trusting either of these companies seems to be a mistake early on.

This might be a stupid question, but do you think 1080p-games could gain performance if I use a 720p display? Or will it just downscale to that, which would be kind of a waste?
