The Aparo Family has asked me to send this information out to all parties. It is with the deepest regret I have to inform you of the passing of the legendary Jim Aparo early Tuesday Morning, July 19, 2005. Mr. Aparo, who was 72, died from complications relating to a recent illness.

:(

He was "the" Batman artist when I was a big comics fan.

yup. he was Batman's artist (the main title) when I first started picking up comics also.

there IMHO are four definitive versions of batman. Bob Kane, Jim Aparo, Neal Adams, and Frank Miller. (I supposed I should say five and have Bill Finger in there also).

I would add Marshall Rogers to that list.

Jim Aparo was very talented. He will be missed.

The man behind my fave, and one of the most famous, pics of Batman...

ok, six

:)

and I agree. The cover from the Death in the Family trade is just powerful. His art on that arc helped sell what would otherwise have been a commerically exploitative and meaningless arc. Joker beating robin was just brutal.
