Even if he hasn't made something awesome since the 80s

Rowdy Roddy Piper is the man. What was it like making ‘They Live’?
Roddy’s a close friend. I didnt want a Hollywood hero with ’80s hair like, Rambo or Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon. ‘They Live’ was my fuck you to Ronald Reagan and everybody in the ’80s loving that old wrinkled piece of shit.
He fucked up everything.

My boy Ayatollah made a beat outta your ‘Precinct 13′ score and he wants me to spit over it, do you clear samples?
Be my guest. I don’t know anything about rap. As far as I could tell, the beats are sorta blues with electronic drums but i’m just an old white man, what the fuck do you want from me?

R.A. The Rugged Man is an underground famous rapper for such great tracks/verses like these:

Like most underground hip hop heads, he's also a big horror fan.

Funny, I literally rewatched "The thing" again like the other day (last time I saw it was like 10 years ago) and was just saying to myself how "john carpenter" is the shit just because of how good that movie is and how it still holds up to this day.

That whole interview is gold

Is Michael Myers a virgin?
Is he a virgin?

I mean, all he does is kill. Did he ever get laid?
I don’t think he was able to. He was fucked up, I think he got confused between fuckin and killing.

What if he’s really just a repressed homosexual on a rampage?
I never thought about that.
I just think he’s crazy.
But what do i know, maybe he is.

I've only seen one of his movies, which was The Thing.

Highly recommended with a group of close friends.

I'm an idiot. I was about to note that I haven't seen any of his films, but I've actually seen Prince of Darkness, Halloween, Escape from New York and The Thing...

They Live and Big Trouble in Little China are two movies that aren't just awesome, they are FUCKING AWESOME.

Yes, the man who made Halloween is always going to be the man.

Hell and I think Ghost of Mars and Vampires (while not great), where both very fun B-Movies made in the style of the 1950s B Action/Horror/Sci-Fi movies that Carpenter grew up watching.

I've got to echo this. Even my least favorites of his films are still great.

Big Trouble in Little China still comes on TV all the time, and I sill watch it almost every time I see it. Same for The Thing and They Live when they're on.

easily one of the best sci fi horror films ever.

Vampires is probably the last "good" movie he did. It's completely self aware and just a ton of fun. In the Mouth of Madness was another later Carpenter work that I would consider one of his best films. It scared the shit out of me when it first came out.

I think Ghost of Mars was pretty damn fun, besides it's one of the few times I've seen Jason Staham with hair. lol

He never stopped being the man, if if he did stop making quality films. Underrated as a director and severly underrated as a composer.

I will take my assertion that Big Trouble in Little China is one of the greatest movies ever made to my grave.

In The Mouth of Madness and The Thing are awesome too.

Watched In The Mouth Of Madness on Netflix a couple weeks ago and it scared the shit out of me.

I watched it as a kid and it was scary. It wasn't until last year that I rediscovered it. Funnily enough that weekend I inadvertently watched three movies in a row with Jürgen Prochnow (The Keep, In the Mouth of Madness and Judge Dredd - it was a long weekend.)

Vampires was cool, god dammit
It was indeed. I know that the book was awesome and I loved it and the movie did play with a large amount of the books bits until it was almost not connected other than names. But the fact remains that Vampires was just fun.

In the Mouth of Madness was amazing. Lots of good details and when you throw Sam Neil into it...well the dude loves playing crazy people and he fucking knocked that entire movie out of the park. His laugh at the end was perfect UNHINGED.

His first movie since Ghost of Mars (Unless you count Masters of Horror), The Ward, was absolute trash.

Damn you for taking that avatar. I was ready to snatch it up...

I've only seen They Live, The Thing, and Big Trouble in Little China. I'll have to check out Mouth of Madness.

That interview is fantastic, and JC is indeed the man.

His movies are the standard for finding awesome women too. If quote Jack Burton to a women and she just cocks her head to the side like a dog, you don't want her.

Hmm, I somehow never saw In the Mouth of Madness, even though i'm a sucker for anything vaguely Lovecraft related (total sucker, will watch anything, almost invariably be disappointed and pretend it never happened). Adding to Netflix queue.

The last good movie he made was In the Mouth of Madness. Escape from LA, Vampires, Ghosts of Mars.. all utter garbage. All artists have their rough patches though so its really no big deal. The greatness present in his body of work is far greater than the stuff that wasnt so hot.

As a die hard Pittsburgh sports fan, I had an obligation to take it :)
