To Mr. Depp's credit when I see him in the Pirate movies I don't think Edward Scissorhands or Ichabod Crane, and vise versa. Same for his other weird characters. :shrugs:

I thought Dark Shadows was Tim Burton's best film since Ed Wood. I'd go as far as to call it his return to greatness. I still can't fathom why people hate it so much.

I really don't think Depp can be blamed for this. From the first teaser I saw of Transcendence I thought it looked awful and cinematographers trying their hand at directing almost never works. A lot of the blame can probably be directed at marketing. I was aware of the film, but there was never any hype as far as I could tell. It was pretty much DOA. I don't see how any one actor can be solely responsible for a film bombing.

It's like a quarterback, you could have done everything perfectly but if the team fails, you are the star of the show which means it's your fault. The trade-off is if the team does amazing and you were just a bit player, you are still looked at quite well come MVP time.

Lone Ranger was a really fun movie, but there was far too much Depp in it. The blatant attempt to make a Cowboys version of PotC is pretty awful.

I hated the way it was a story being told to a kid as well, I hate the style of film and on the whole made it feel like John Carter.

His movies struggle because he picks bad movies, not because people don't see him as something other than Jack Sparrow.

Probably because it was a dramatic comedy instead of one or the other. The result was humor that just didn't fit. Ha ha, he killed a bunch of druggies, ha ha. Which made for characters you felt no sympathy for. I just wanted them all dead and the movie done.

As for Transcendence, this thread is the first I've heard of it. This make me thing it's a dud, since even if the marketing team did an epic fail there's usually some pre hype on forums such as this before a movie goes to the big screen.

I saw it on Friday and there definitely weren't many people there. This was a 9 pm showing too. :/

Too bad as it was an interesting movie imo.

I don't think he's given a fuck lately. I think he will be redeemed in everyone's eyes when some cool roles pop up. This is just part of his career

tbh this movie looked like complete garbo even from the trailers. Then the horrible reviews, now the box office bomb. I've realized I don't really like Depp all that much, I certainly wouldn't rush out to see a movie he's in, it's most Pirates that I enjoy him in.
