Johnny Depp is the main man at the Mouse House.

Depp has agreed to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in a fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" pic and play Tonto in a bigscreen adaptation of "The Lone Ranger," both produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. He will also star as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s version of "Alice in Wonderland."

The roles come after Depp helped Disney earn a combined $2.6 billion at the box office with the three pics in the "Pirates" franchise, also produced by Bruckheimer.

"Alice in Wonderland," skedded for 2010, will be shot using 3-D and performance capture technology similar to that used for "Beowulf."

Just replace Mickey Mouse with Depp

At that, Disney rolled out the USC marching band to come down and play the Ranger's theme song. This was followed by an appearance by Depp himself who took to the stage in full Captain Jack Sparrow attire...wearing The Lone Ranger's mask.

:lol

PIRATES 4 FUCK YES!!!!

Alice in Wonderland should be good. Depp as the Mad Hatter = perfect.

The last thing we need is another Pirates, though. Don't really care about The Lone Ranger one way or the other.

Not that I disagree with you necessarily, I just want to know why Depp is the best choice for the role. Somebody out there must know.

He's a good actor and he actually looks like the original illustration?

I don't know if he's the best choice, but I do think he would be great. Depp can play whacky and over-the-top, and can do it very well. He also transforms himself completely into the character he's performing.

We'll pretend Charlie and the Chocolate Factory never happened, though, shall we?

Damn. I guess the word can't get enough of Johnny Depp. Not even Johnny Depp can get enough of Johnny Depp.

well.. he is pretty talented

I'm worried about the Alice in Wonderland movie. Beowulf looked strange to me in motion capture 3D. But I do trust Burton's style! Hoping the for the best, and for one crazy acid trip :lol

Let me guess, in Alice in Wonderland he will play a wild character who talks a lot and makes funny wide-eyed expressions with his face a few inches from the camera, looking to the left... again.

He was close to signing on to a drama called One More River coming out in '09, but the director doesn't like him so it fell through even though he liked the script :lol

The producer for it told us that it was probably one of the hardest things he had to dismiss because you don't turn away someone like Depp when it will bring in the money.

A journeyman (or woman, I guess) television director's not a fan of Depp. Haw.

I'm surprised they didn't get Adam Beach to play Tonto, him and Wes Studi are basically in every movie with a Native American :lol

FUCK yeah Pirates 4! :D

The first two were equally awesome. Third was pretty disappointing. But I'm completely down for a 4th.

With the Will/Elizabeth story wrapped up, I wonder where they're gonna go with it next. Just follow up with the lead-in at the end of At World's End and just have Jack and Barbossa racing each other to find the Fountain of Youth? That seems like the obvious thing to do. But I'm sure there will be more to it. Probably a new antagonist. I don't think Barbossa could be positioned as an antagonist again after At World's End. He's become more of a rival than an enemy, if that makes sense.

so they got one of the biggest stars in the world to be in Lone Ranger and their casting him as the sidekick? Seems kind of wierd. Anyway this should officially take Depp out of the running of having any chance of being in the next Batman movie. My dream of Emilio Estevez as Riddler is still alive!

heh looks like johnny depp is finally cashing in after being in only the movies he wanted when he was younger. although a pirates 4 with just him being on a pirate adventure would be great. please no more bloom or knightley.

Agreed. Goddamn I really dont like 3 >:(

As much as I want it to be good, I'm just not excited at all for 4. PotC 3 was horrible and 2 was pretty mediocre. I'm convinced it was Depp playing around with what the writers gave him that made the original special and having the writers to throw in all these nudges and winks for him in the past two (as well as the convoluted mythology and super serious, at times, tone) films just brought the whole thing down.

I can get why people didn't like Pirates 3. I was kinda iffy on it myself, and it only grew on me the second time around. But I really don't get the Pirates 2 hate. I thought it was fun all around.
