This works for a few reasons:

• Matt and Jeff are taking it seriously despite the wackyness of it. They aren't laughing at the camera.
• Camera cuts and music truly make it sports entertainment. Its something completly different from the druge WWE offers
• No commentary team to try and over plug or ruin the match
