Jump Super Stars (NDS): first screen shot

Looks promising, i want to see it in motion and i want to know the multiplayer capabilities. This is going to own Japan.

I really want this to be good, I really, really do, but seeing it now...the small screen gives me some apprehension. I hope the arenas are not that small and that they scroll. Also while I loved the concept, the in-game character sprites don't seem terribly detailed. If they're going to go the 2d route, they better have ACE animation.

Looks like 8-player battles ... craziness.

Maybe you can use the bottom screen as a broader "overview" of where everyone else is in the arena while the top screen focuses on your character.

This better have some Hakusho lovin'. Also what are the chances of this coming to the US? I don't see NoA fighting Bandai, ADV, Viz, Funimation & possibly DiC to allow it come over in proper form.

Do they have to? It would seem as if the only company they'd have to negotiate with is Shueisha.

forgot that most characters are licensed to seperate companies in the states.

Though they can come to an agreement cant they? :/

Shoot. Forgot 4Kids as well as they have Shaman King & One Piece. Oi.....

Considering Funimation puts out their own DBZ/YYH games rather then porting the old Japanese ones I could see them being a problem. But 4Kids is a bigger worry considering their uber censorship priorities.

Isn't 4Kids tight with Nintendo like Halliburton is with Dick Cheany? :lol

I don't see them being a problem, but hey, Nintendo could always (gasp) replace the anime characters with their own Nintendo characters for a worldwide release.

I get the feeling in 5-6 years Nintendo will be one of the largest anime companies in the world, if not the single largest one.

It just seems like everytime they hit a roadblock, something else springs up and takes off for them.

Yes, but none of those companies own the characters. They license them.

The question is, do those American companies have *exclusive* licenses to create/publish videogames based on the various series? If not, then there's no issue.

Clearly, no company in Japan has exclusive rights to any of these series. So I sincerely doubt that Shueisha would give American licensors more power.

So in Japan the individual creators of these franchises own the characters?

That's interesting, I didn't know that.

That would sorta be like Stan Lee or Jack Kirby owning the Marvel Comics characters themselves in not Marvel Comics.

I'm not sure, but I imagine that when you get to be a superstar creator like Toriyama you can pretty much set the rules for retaining ownership. No idea how it all works though. I'm just going off the fact that a host of studios are credited in that ad.

For example, after "2004 Nintendo" it credits Toriyama Akira, Bird Studio.

i wonder how it will works without the zoom to keep all players on screen...

Who says it has a zoom? We don't know how close this game will play to Smash Bros yet, could be fixed arenas.

I doubt it as it looks really cramped if so, but it's a small screen, I don't think they're going to want the characters getting that much smaller.

You realize if this succeeds (Which it will), then Nintendo will combine the two franchises.
Jump Smash.
I swear to god, that game would outsell everything on the planet. You'd buy two copies because it's so hot.

Awesome! I've been waiting to see this game. It looks a lot like Smash Bros. Hopefully the gameplay is just as good. I only see player number markers on Goku and Luffy. Those characters on top might be items or summons. The markers for Naruto and Sasuke might be being covered by the health bars. The health bars look different than the ones in SSB. Maybe they have a different KO system.

I think the 2D graphics look very nice. It looks much better than anything I've seen on GBA. I can't wait for more info. Hook us up with some nice impressions when you play it, John TV. :)

This is gonna sell like mad, especially since jump will publish ads in their mangas for this game, thats a LOT of readers.

Cant wait to see this in motion, sprite animation is the main interesting factor seeing 2d for a new tech.

I wonder if they are already planning a console version for revolutions launch?

Is there any news on whether or not the game will feature secrets unlockable by using gba carts of f the one piece or naruto games, like pokemon dash did w/blue & saphirre?

Imagine Jump Stars + SSB + Mascots from other Japan companies (sega, konami, capcom) in a Revolution game.

Oh yeah, let's use the second screens for comic-style conversations!
Tey revolutionary gameplay!

NOT!

It doesn't look promising at all.

I still cant get over Ichigo 100% being in there, that's a trip. I was always partial to Lilim Kiss though.. :D

You guys can talk about the Anime influences all you want, but at the end of the day I'm concerned about the gameplay. In this case it looks promising. If it looks to play like Smash Bros. and comes from the Smash Bros team, it could be my first import ever.

For those that reside in Japan: how big of a splash do you suppose this will make? I know Jump circulation has smashed records and such, but if it's as big as I suspected, could this really be Japan's "Megaton"? When I saw this, my first thought was "So, Japan asplode?"

Is it possible for PSP or home consoles to get something similar? And is Dec 18th the release date?
PSP = impossible unless Nintendo goes 3rd party. ;)

Nintendo home console possible.

Ah I'm sure this EDUCATED response came from the fact that you can read Japanese and hence understood the scanned article to say that the touch screen is used for comic style conversations?

What? No? You just assumed that? Oh ok, that makes you a DUMBASS! :lol Damn junior members should think before they post.

As someone said in this thread, the second screen seems is used to call characters and introduce options, there is an image of the magical beans of Dragon Ball (to restore life I suppose).

Looks interesting, will wait to the impression from Japan. Being developed by Nintendo give me some hope for it not being a bad game based on licenses (well, not every game based on licenses is bad, I like the GC Narutos and Super Robot Taisen for example).

I sooo wish I could use a certain phrase right now. =)

Anyways, Bobobo-bobo-bobo is in it!! Yeah! I super hope this comes out in America.

This looks really nice, and I'm really tempted to get this, but I need to see some kind of character in this I like. :P But this is the style that I really wanted SSB Advance to have, but that never happened of course.

Though, is it just me or are the characters slightly smaller than normal? They look so cute.

i want some capcom fighters for DS, surely it could handle them no problem.
Yeah, CPS2 & CPS3 would be no problem at all (except maybe storage for CPS3 games, though that won't be a problem next year when 256MB+ cards are available). Naomi games (MVC2, CVS series, etc) could be difficult if they used 3D BGs but those could just as easily be replaced with bitmaps. The DS screen layout seems almost perfect for Marvel Vs Capcom imo.

Personally I would have loved for them to use both screens for battle. Two story fighting would rule. Looks sweet either way though.
