Nope. No chance of that now, I'd wager.

Also, props for sticking with the Kabuto avatar for so long! :D I need to switch back to a Rider avatar sometime soon.

Wrestlezone Exclusive: Backstage Update on CM Punk's Future, Cena Angle
By Nick Paglino

As seen on Monday Night Raw tonight, CM Punk announced that he will be leaving WWE after his contract expires on July 17th, which is the day of the Money in the Bank PPV.

After speaking with several sources, WZ can confirm that as of this writing, Punk does indeed plan to leave the company following the PPV, and he has not signed a new deal with WWE.

This does NOT mean, however, that it's guaranteed Punk will actually leave following the PPV, as anything can change between now and then, and has in the past.

Two years ago, when Jeff Hardy was finishing his last run with WWE, he had informed management on a number of occasions that he would be leaving the company on a certain date. But because he was such a hot commodity in WWE at the time, officials did their best to accommodate Hardy, and were able to re-sign him to contract extensions that saw him remain with the company for several months after he had initially intended to leave.

In the case of CM Punk, it could play out that the current angle between him and John Cena draws better than expected, which could lead WWE brass to step up and offer Punk a bigger money deal to remain with the company. It's no coincidence that Punk has been putting a tremendous amount of effort into his work recently, in what I would guess is an attempt to prove his ultimate worth in WWE.

Last month, WZ was the first to exclusively report that Cena requested to feud with Punk this summer, in an attempt to persuade CM Punk to re-sign with the company after his contract expires. One source noted to us tonight, "in a way, this angle is a test for both management and Punk. For management, it's to see how well he can draw at the top, and for Punk it's a way for him to gauge whether or not WWE fully backs him as a main event player."
Wrestlezone's Original Article on May 22nd, 2011...

According to a prominent member of the WWE staff, Cena is a big fan of Punk's, and thought WWE could have gotten a lot more out of Punk during his run with Randy Orton.

With Punk reportedly in a contract dispute with WWE (his contract expires at the end of the Summer, and he has not elected to sign a new agreement), Cena went to WWE Chairman Vince McMahon with a similar pitch to how Cena worked Chris Jericho's final program when Jericho first took a leave of absence from WWE.

While WWE hopes Punk will eventually stay with the company, it looks like his exit will come at the hands of John Cena should he decide to leave.

Of course, with Punk being in a feud with "The Champ," WWE has the option to offer Punk a title run in order to sweeten the offer for him to stay.

"This is going to be interesting to watch," another key WWE insider told us this evening, "Punk is very smart, and Cena understands WWE politics better than anyone other than HHH and Undertaker. A feud between the two of them may be the smartest thing WWE can do to get Punk to stay!"

WrestleZone is the first to report the impending Punk vs Cena feud, and will keep you up-to-date on this breaking story as it develops.
CM Punk's post-announcement remarks on Twitter...

I knew I was gone at the beginning of the year. I just woke up one day and I knew. That's the way I work a lot of the time.
I think it's creepy too, but it's really helpful. I knew I'd be history by July. Come say goodbye on July 17th.
Come say goodbye on July 17th. I promise to go out with a bang. Trust me. XxX
Coincidentally, the Ring of Honor TV deal with Sinclair was announced the day prior to Wrestlezone's first report on CM Punk feuding with Cena.

Punk is gonna get kicked out the way Jericho did. Kicking and screaming....or in the back of a garbage truck.

It's already playing out somewhat differently in light of the fact that Y2J was storyline fired by Bischoff and then trashed (literally) by Cena.

Whereas Punk has gone on record that he is "choosing" to leave and will be incredibly over as a face in his hometown regardless of the outcome.

So is Punk really leaving or is this just an angle?

What are the chances that he signs a new contract?

What problems is he currently having with WWE? (besides shitty writing, but hey its a paycheck).

Any word as to what he's planning on doing when/if he's gone?

Slim to none. And slim just got banished to dark match duty.

Punk considers himself a "wrestler".
Wrestling is now considered a dirty word in the WWE land of Cena & Orton Bury Everybody.
Do the math.

Any word as to what he's planning on doing when/if he's gone?
You should tweet him and ask. I'd say he's earned a break.

So I missed another day of wrestling. To tired to go through the all the Raw posts, but was it shitty?
Decent wrestling, but shit booking.

Punk's leaving July 17th, facing Cener at MitB PPV.

Heels jobbed to Cena/Orton in the main event.

Fin.

He still owns the rights to his name, right? And that's what WWE wants?

Yes sir, that's indeed what they want.

Fact is, Punk's now proven that he's a top talent and he can pretty much go where ever he pleases now. My guess is he takes a break for a while and if he does come back, it's to ROH or Japan.

Or he might just decide to go to Comic Con for vacation once he's done with WWE (it's the same week and he loves him some comics). And I only say that because it'd be awesome to accidentally bump into him. :p

Thanks for the info, you two.

It sucks. He's one of the most entertaining factors WWE has at the moment. :(

The ultimate sticking point between Punk and WWE is that WWE wants copyright ownership of the "CM Punk" name. Punk has been telling them to fuck off.

Kind of funny when something like this comes out
Something like Cena/Ryder last week.
Cena/Bourne prior to that.

You realize Cena doesn't play backstage politics, but for once, I think people would actually want someone to do it.

Do what?

Get a referee to count out Cena and risk losing their job?

C'mon mang...

The belt isn't leaving with Punk.

Im just messing around and trying to create another storyline...The current ones sucked..

Have Punk win with Bret Hart counting Cena out

It'll be a shame if Punk is actually leaving and it's not just a big work. He's the only person on the roster that's consistently entertaining and I'll probably stop tuning in as much after he's gone. After Jericho left the first time I really stopped following wrestling for a while. No Punk or Jericho? I dunno if I can handle it.

SAVE US Y2J

Edge's gone
Jericho's gone
HBK's gone
Punk's going
Cena is still champ(I like Cena, but he's better at chasing and he's had that thing too many times as it is)
Orton is still champ(I don't like him at all)

It's hard to be a WWE fan now. Don't Hogan and Bischoff leave TNA soon? Maybe that'll get better, but I really doubt it.

Punk will win at mitb, celebrate and insult the fans on the mic. Cent gives him an AA and then the music of the winner on the raw mitb match hits, they come down and win the title.

Just started watching New Japan's Best of the Super Jr. 2011.

Wow that Taichi vs Kenny Omega match was awesome! :)
Now this is the kind of wrestling I can watch all day long just like I could in the old days.

Punk wins, leaves with the belt (although obviously doesn't really leave with the belt). WWE reintroduces the classic belt as it's recognised WWE championship, continues with that until Punk is ready to return and proclaims he is the true champion à la Flair's first WWF run. Instant interesting feud with whoever is the current champ.

Afaik, Hogan and Bisschof arent leaving TNA.
WWE feels like watching a movie that's on a constant repeat.
I was really happy they had Christian win the belt, it felt like a much needed change but that change was very short-lived when Orton won the belt. Now they give a mid-carder (R-truth) a push only to end in defeat by Cena and they end up in the mid-card again. Rinse and repeat. All this just to please the children or its just lazy writing imho.

But all of this has been said before, so here's a gif of AJ.

Punk's cool. Remember last week when Cena started up the five moves with the shoulder and Punk ducked out of the way and Cena went flying out of the ring? Laughed my ass off.

And then the usual happened, bah!

*edit, lol - Chris Jericho wasn't quite the promo wizard we know him as back in 1995; "Lance Storm, that ring is my house, and you come into my house when I tell you to and you leave when I tell you to, and tonight I'm going to tell you to get out of my house really fast".

I've only seen Devitt vs Omega so far as I'm waiting for my disc copies to turn up, but I really want to see Sasuke vs TAKA and Davey Richards vs Devitt so I'm tempted to just download them. The Super Juniors are always great though, and this years looks exceptionally awesome.

Punk should just take the piss out of his last match and goof off.

Not a chance. He's a professional, for one. Two, he'll get to main event in his hometown so he'll bring a little something extra.

Thinking about it, I might actually buy this PPV for that match. Or maybe at least have someone shed a little light on the subject.

If anything, Punk is going to tear the house down for the sole reason of proving how valuable of an asset he is the WWE and how stupid they are for dragging their feet with an offer that meets his value.

His promo last night was pretty damn funny -- the snow angel part was so awesomely random and hilarious. Any other wrestler would have looked like a total goof doing that, but Punk made it work in every way. :D
