This is how things work in the US.

People call the mob mentality of the middle east barbaric but we're not any better if we won't allow someone to defend themselves. Just goes to show that humans can be bloodthirsty no matter where they're from.

I hope he gets life in jail. I see that as a worse punishment, and like it was said, he could see how fruitless all his actions were.

Man, it's cases like these where the death penalty seems like it would be the most "okay", but I just still can't support the idea. I feel wrong hoping he doesn't get the death penalty, but...i do hoe he doesn't get the death penalty.
I knew one of the victims and I hope he doesn't get the death penalty

I don't want the death penalty because he will just be stuck in courts for the next bazillion years on appeal and waste everyone's money and time.

What's the cost of that Vs. having him live out his life in prison? Plus having to protect him or have him in isolated custody because he will get killed in Prison if they don't

I would fine with life in prison (seems like a worse hell) if it was the gulag or the American equivalent.

He wants to die so I'd say keep him alive. I know it costs money and all that, but if he suffers from being alive than it's worth it. I imagine within 40 years he'll realize how idiotic he was and obviously by then won't be able to do anything about it. I feel like giving him death is what he wants. He pretty much said as much in his boat manifesto, didn't he?

it costs more to keep him on death row with a lengthy and costly appeals process that tends to last decades than it would to let him live out his life.

Wish the death penalty wasn't so expensive. I hate the idea of tax dollars helping keep this fuck alive and comfortable

They kill him, he kills himself, or he dies in prison. Any of those outcomes feel the same to me.

A life behind bars would lead to some pretty nasty self reflection. He does't want to be alive. I'd keep him alive so he has to face those thoughts.

Only one of those involves state sanctioned murder to no good point or purpose.

Life without possibility of parole is the only good option.

Costs more. He is going to be living 20+ years or whatever the average is plus the legal costs.

They can't rush people to death. I technically support the idea of capital punishment but the way it plays out is never what you would normally think.

there's about a zero percent chance this dude doesn't get the death penalty.

17 charges, all of which carry the death penalty. He'll need some sweet sweet RNJesus intervention to not be put to death.

I've grown away from the death penalty over the years, but are we any better that we wish to torture this dude for the rest of his life with a life sentence versus just offing him as an eye-for-an eye?

Personally, I hope he gets to live a very long, terrifyingly boring and lonely life, trapped in a tiny cell and surrounded by thugs that hate his guts. Death would be quick and painless, which is something he doesn't really deserve. Just let him rot in body, mind and soul. I'm a vindictive asshole, I guess.

Oh well. Hope the victims of his crimes get closure, whatever the sentence may be.

That's not even remotely true.

I wouldn't be shocked if there is at least on juror that says no to that because they feel a tiny bit of sympathy because of the influence of his brother. That would lead to life.

Heck, forget being shocked, I expect that to happen.

If anyone ever deserved death however, it's this guy and other monsters like him.

Ideally if he wanted to die, I'd say let him. Society has no more use for such a person. Making death opt-in for these sorts of issues would solve most of the problems that the penalty has in general.

I won't support the death penalty on the minute chance that he is not guilty of this bombing.

Despite evidence seeming 100% secure in this time period, in a later one, with better technology Tsarnaev may be exonerated.

His defenses opening statement admitted that he did it.

Give him life in solitary confinement. Play a continuous loop of images of the people he killed/maimed on every wall of his cell for the rest of his life.

Well he's guilty because he's pleaded guilty. If the death penalty didn't exist in the US there wouldn't even be a trial.
