Just beat Intergrade DLC of FF7 Remake for the first time, and ...

Holy shit, it was complete, utter dogshit - how the fuck did they release such a shit expansion? Christ! Soundtrack sucked and felt completely tone-deaf with some incredibly loud and unfitting jazz music which mingled with some B- hard metal and like, what the FUCK. Characterization sucked ass - they couldn't make Yuffie more annoying even if they tried. Two death scenes felt completely out of touch, unearned, badly edited and completely cringe-galore. Near the end I felt like I was playing something out of Kingdom Hearts when I fought this Nero guy.

What complete utter fucking dogshit.

Were the story/music director of FF7 Intergrade the same guy/people who worked on the main game? If yes, how did it suck so much? Were they on drugs when making this?

I'm a massive Remake fanboy, but if I'm honest, other than the very marmite charm of Yuffie I also found it bland as could be.

I quite enjoyed the fight at the end of Chapter 1, but everything else was extremely poor.

I think the only battle I actually enjoyed and felt like playing FF7 was taking on Scarlet's mech.

Oh I forgot about that fight! I quite liked that too. Clearly Id utterly blanked most of Chapter 2 for my memory.
I don't blame you, whole thing was so ... utterly tone-deaf. Hearing a deep-voiced guy like Sonon calling a sixteen year old 'boss' over and over simply took me to 'cringe ultramode' every fucking time. Half the DLC, characters act in 'cringe teen anime' mode which fails to take them seriously, Sonon's grief over his sister is meaningless since we never meet or experience the character herself, him seeing Yuffie as a substitute for his sister is completely unconvincing ... it's ... it's all a complete utter clusterfuck.

And Yuffie screaming at the air after witnessing the plate collapse as if she actually gives a fuck was utterly cringe. Whole thing felt un-earned. You don't get to show me the main character act like she doesn't give a fuck, then having a crying meltdown.

Oh man, Yuffie is so damn funny. I love her portrayal.

That scene in Rebirth in Costa del Sol, where she's standing by the ice cream stand, "...or are ya looking for something HOT!" :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I'm of the mindset that the FF7 remake project is an absolute masterclass in voice acting and script work. It gives me the feeling of watching an absolute dime of a summer blockbuster. Pure magic IMO.

It's literally just an expansion of the same concepts of the Remake - FF VII Fanfic off rails.

Next time just put the whome on the title to save us the time.
Thanks in advance

Yeah the story was shit but Yuffie's playstyle is fun. She's OP as hell compared to the Remake party, so they nerfed her in Rebirth but she's still pretty good.

Also I liked this dumb song, sue me

I don't know what that is outside of the classical sense.

I personally can't stand 99.9% of anime. Something about FF7 remake just gels with me. Can't help but love the characters and root for them.
Fun, wacky, eccentric character. I think they did a lot of work to flesh out Yuffie in Intergrade and later Rebirth. Probably one of the better characters in the FF7 fanfic arc they have going on.

Wait until you play/watch Rebirth. They’ve ruined 1/2 the cast.

I liked her playstyle as well. She was probably buffed because she's basically a one-woman party.
It was fine. If this is your impression of it then avoid Rebirth.
Already bought it, but I refuse to believe it will be as horrible as Intergrade. I loved Remake, I hated its DLC. I think I'll love Rebirth as well.
Integrade was absolutely boring, pointless and didn’t felt like a natural expansion, but painfully forced.
Yeah, it was the literal definition of filler, which isn't bad per se if the writing is good, but it wasn't.

Don't XD everyone has their preference. I basically hate it when characters act like cartoons and not real people in situations where they should act in a more mature/serious manner. And yeah, Remake has a lot of such scenes, but are less cringe, and it has FAR better serious scenes which feel more earned. For example, I thought that Remake handled the plate collapse a LOT better than the original did, it felt truly tragic and - like Wedge said - a reckoning for Avalanche.

I hope you are wrong. I heard that Cid had his ass-ness nerfed, which doesn't surprise me considering he was abusive (mentally) towards his wife in the original and that's a big no-no in this gloriously politically correct era that we are living.

Thought it was great DLC. Nice complete multi chapter storyline campaign with two main side activities that themselves weave with one another and tie into a series of smaller, more bite sized side activities. To call it poorly made strikes me as funny when all of the side content is holding up the other side content and creating a loop of progress into challenge into progress. (i.e. you're introduced to Fort Condor. Playing it gets you Condor coins or whatever. These are utilized in a shop that opens nearby. This shop guy has a competition going to see who can find his flyers first. You go in search of these, and find game pieces for Fort Condor in treasure chests. It all feeds back into itself) I liken this design philosophy with what made Capcom and Team Silent's initial entries in Resident Evil and Silent Hill great. Having a hub location that itself almost becomes a character for how relevant and distinct the shortcuts, landmarks, inhabitants, activities, or dangers become.

Combat was awesome. Yuffie is a glass cannon, able to deal bee sting damage constantly or riskier, flashier moves. Having Ninjutsu gives her a distinct class vibe that has a learning curve, but is based on skill you've developed over an entire Main campaign.

Nero is a Tsviet and a member of Deepground, a SOLDIER unit. It was a big Dirge of Cerberus reference. That's why it was Kingdom Heartsy to you, OP. I'm using my powers of eldritch divination to deduce that you're probably one of the "Genesis likes boys," "they turned Cloud into a bitch in Advent Children," styled fans (which is legit, I don't care even if I don't agree) so a lot of the more Shonen leaning shit towards the end of the Compilation probably sours your taste a lot.

It was ok.
I didn't mind the music and I liked the Fort Condor minigame.
Yuffie as a character is indeed kinda annoying, she is basically the personification of that off putting anime trope where they try to make a female character "cute" by having her talk and act like a 7 years old. At least gameplay wise she is super fun, even in Rebirth I kept her in my main party most of the time because of it.

If it counts for anything I thought Rebirth was better than remake in everything except story. Yuffie is just as annoying but she is basically a side character as the story mostly centers on Cloud, Aerith, Tifa and Barret.

Oh, I am not one of those 'Cloud looks effeminate so he's definitely gay' people - and I never played Dirge of Cerberus, so yeah I completely missed the reference - the KH vibes came when I started seeing dark-purple tendrils and dimension portals and black clouds and way too much spiky hair.

I had no problem with Fort Condor, I had no problem with Yuffie's playstyle. My main problems with the DLC was soundtrack and characterization. Soundtrack felt completely out of place, it drowned out the dialogue and the character moments felt forced, not earned, cringe and completely over the top (mostly because I felt the characters didn't earn them). My biggest problem was
Sonon's death
which felt completely forced and cheap for the simple reason that I never connected with the character and the whole sequence felt stupid, it's the classic 'time stops for a LONG while as I say my last words' cliche, which I fucking hate. The last ten minutes of the DLC felt so badly written that if that was how the main game started, I don't think I would've bothered.

They went for the 'Sailor Moon parody' trope where the character does the overly dramatic poses thinking they're badass while you think they're being ridiculous. It was just cringe.

I hope the story will click for me. Story centering mostly on those four sounds pretty good to me. I loved Red XIII's characterization in Remake, I hope he gets some good moments in Rebirth as well. Cait Sith is a weird case, don't really care for Yuffie and Vincent, and from Cid, all I want is a good remake of his theme.

I'm playing this right now, just finished Remake and holy shit, you're right, I wanna slap her every time she opens her mouth. I mean, I had this problem in Remake as well, with characters behaving and talking like in some parody, but DLC is on another level.
Lol, can't wait to see her in Rebirth.

Well the music of VII is really unique, was already there and from another era when there was more passion and talent, I think this was done kinda of in a rush.

Music of the new VII is pretty great, when you have ~800 tracks or whatever they have and it's not even done.

Stuff like Hollow is 10/10 for sure.

The problem with the story in Rebirth is that it's basically adapting that middle portion of the OG game where you are mostly exploring the world. So outside of the intro, the ending and a few dramatic moments sprinkled along the the way, it often feels rather aimless and unfocused. Though personally I did enjoy the more laid back tone of the game and I had a blast playing through it.

As for the characters, it made me like Caith Sith way more than in the OG game (never really cared about him in the original) and Red XIII way less than in the OG

Yeah this is my opinion of it too. I love the base game and rebirth. Yuffie's adventures with the Avalanche z team...not so much

Always the same fucking people in these FF hate threads.

DLC was solid, OST was fucking great. Rebirth is better than most (literally almost all) the games last year, Remake was fantastic.

In other words haters can fuck off.

I don't think I've ever enjoyed any dlc for any game. I've stopped buying it now. It's always so anticlimactic after the main games ending.

Yeah, I like it, I was just talking about the DLC, but most of the music of both Remake and Rebirth was in the original, no? Are there some new ones that were created for these 2 that weren't in the OG?

The new stuff is mostly the gag songs, like Bow Wow Wow (in fairness it works, but it's not winning any awards) or Kyrie's pop theme (a bit less charming) and such. Though there's some new stuff too like Gongaga's theme which is also great. But all the OST for both games are remade from the OG - there's no music straight up exactly from the OG in it, at least hardly any. And like many of the OG songs are remade in to 5-6 versions on Rebirth/Remake.

I'm not super on top of the OSTs, but there's definitely very few games that come close in their offerings, even if you hated Rebirth the OST was nearly perfect IMO.

It was good. Nothing mind-blowing compared to Remake and Rebirth, but more interesting content.

DLC almost always pales in comparison to the main game.

That's what I figured and that was a bit my point, I feel like music in general -- not that you can't find any good or even great modern music -- was better before.
For ex. I like the music in XVI, but it's not on the level of VII.

I haven't played Rebirth yet as I only have a PC, but saw some stuff, even so I don't think I'm gonna hate it, definitely gonna hate some parts of it, that's for certain.
I didn't hate any FFs, but couldn't really get into any of them until VII Remake and XVI. Tried XIII and I liked almost all except the gameplay/combat, also XV, where I liked the combat, the world and art style, but disliked the main characters, I wanted to drive that car off a fucking cliff.

I was very confused what that stuff was about so now that makes sense.

Nero really only made sense if you've played FF7 Dirge of Cerebus. He was one of the main antagonists in that game.

FF7 Remake Intergrade gives a glimpse into his origins. It's mostly fan service for hardcore FF7 fans

Right. The dude DOES have super anime powers. It's kind of dulled in the sense that every Tsviet member was a 1st Class SOLDIER, but they all had FOXHOUND/Saturday morning cartoon vibes. There was Rosso - the femme Fatale crossbow-gun wielding blood Knight, Nero the Chaos/Darkness manipulator, Weiss the anime swordsman who has unlocked the peerless ability of using both hands to hold a different weapon, Shelke - a nineteen year old in a nine year old's body (srsly) who is kept alive by mako and fights with lightsabers, and Azul who is basically Vulcan Raven.

It felt like a filler Arc in an otherwise quality anime or some shit.
