Just finished Phoenix Wright. DS 2005/2006 GOTY. Now when do we get PW2?

Ok I just finished Chapter 5. The 'bonus' chapter. What a loooooooooonnnnnnnnnngggggggggg chapter! Much longer than I expected it to be. There is no game clock, but that had to have taken me around 8 hours to finish. Chapter started extremely slow and a little boring at first, but started to pick up steam and had a crazy finish! Perhaps a little long but you can never get too much Phoenix Wright! The scientific analysis tools taking advantage of the DS system is pretty damn sweet. Adds a little more to the structure of the game than just collecting evidence. I was pleaseantly surprised at how well the scientific analysis structure turned out for Chapter 5. A well done, fully featured 'extra' chapter. But I did miss the lack of Maya in the chapter! Ema turned out to be an ok replacment, but I need my spiritual help!

This game is about as different as anything I have played in the past, and I loved every second of it. I wasn't exactly sure to how I would take to such a text heavy game, but the experience has been great. The twisting and turning of the storyllines is what makes the game so fantastic. Chapter one is pretty straightforward, and this is how I expected the rest of the game to be like. Once you hit Chapter Two, Turnabout Sisters, the plot twists and turns start to get bigger and bigger with each case. By Chapter 5 some of the twists were starting to get a little ridiculous, but it was always awesome to see how the cases fold out. After finishing the game I would say Phoenix Wright needs to be put into the top 10 badasses of the year category! While he may not physically beat people up, he verbally gives people the beating of a lifetime!

Chapter 4 was my favorite chapter. Not surprisingly, it focuses around Edgeworth, who is definitely still a mysterious character! I just loved how the entire chapter unfolded from start to finish, and it gives you new light on Edgeworth's demeanor as well (Which then, adds on in Chapter 5 when he almost reaches PW levels of badassity).

The evidence hunt is sometimes a pain in the ass, because during investigations you always needed to find things in order to trigger the next event. Made for some unnecessary back and forth movement, but on a whole wasn't too horrible. The trials themselves are the meat of the game, and make up for the scavenger hunting you have to do! Just seeing the back and forth banter in the trials is worth the price of admission alone.

I found out the DS game is a port of the GBA game, but with the bonus 5th mission attached. I also see there are parts 2 and 3 available in Japan on GBA. Do we know if these games are coming over to the USA? Also, isn't Capcom working on a a 4th game right now strictly for DS? I want them all! Do we have any info to see if these versions will hit US shores?

Do what you can to find this game! Perhaps Capcom will print some more copies, but if they don't grab it while you still can! Best game to play on the DS!

Condensed GAF talk for those who don't want to read semi long post!

Phoenix Wright FTW

Phoenix Wright is awesome, but there is NO replay value, which sucks. Since it got all rare I went ahead and picked up a used copy off ebgames one morning for about $15 a/c, but it's not really worth more than that since you'll never really play it again. I'd gladly buy any sequels released in the US day one now though.

I have something in the works for us U.S. Pheonix Wright fans who want to have our voice heard, but its probably a good four weeks away from being ready. In any case, I'll share when I can.

Capcom will probably release PW4 as PW2 in the states. I don't think they'll bother into remaking 2 & 3 for the DS. And yes, the new PW is being developed for the DS.

It's not a PW game. It's pretty obvious that GS4 will not be related to the other games in the series. So there is hope dammit! THERE IS HOPE! But we never see Phoenix Wright again unless they bring over the other two GBA games. :(

Don't see why they couldn't do a 2 in 1 GBA or DS pack for the 2nd and 3rd games. Oh wait, that's because IT MAKES SENSE. I swear Capcom doesn't like money sometimes.

Yeah I heard Phoenix wasn't suppossed to be in it and that poses a little problem. What will Capcom call the game in US/EU?

(Insert name here): Ace Attorney.

I was between this game and Gradius V yesterday, I end up picking Gradius V can't say I regret because Gradius rocks, but I want me some PW :(

Yeah but now that you know how the evidence unfolds in the trials, it is easy to replay the game again to enjoy the twists and turns without having to remember everything! :D

No PW in the sequel, though? Grrr. Oh well, time for a new attorney to step up and take the reigns!

Capcom should offer a 2 in 1 package for parts two and three, customized for DS!

Seeing how it sold very nicely (for a ported game) in Japan, I am sure the milking power of Capcom will be put to good use here, meaning PW2 and PW3 will most likely be ported to DS before they release Gyakuten Saiban 4 in Japan. Whether or not they will include English version of the game and release it in the US is still doubtful though, seeing how it sold fairly poorly in the US.

I wouldn't say the game sold poorly. Capcom just didn't ship too many copies. People want the game, but can't find it. Capcom should filter out another 20,000-30,000 copies of this game, they would sell.

As for replayability, I guess you can say it is a knock. But I don't think it is a big deal. PW is a LONG game. Longer than I ever expected it to be. This game took me over 20 hours to finish all 5 cases. You can say games like Castlevania DS have more replayability, but I finished that game in 6 hours. It'll take over 3 playtimes of Castlevania to equal one session of PW!

Yeah it is pretty cool owning people in Phoenix Write, his reactions are priceless. It's not just the result, but the way it unfolds thats pretty damn impressive. I said "holy shit!" a few times as the cases progressed and revalations were made. Music was extremely addictive. I thought the examining clues in chapter 5 was an interesting idea that I'd like to see expanded upon in GS4 (but not too expanded to the point where its tedious).

Where can I find the full sized pictures that are used for the chapter title screens after you've beaten them. In the game they are all covered with the name of the chapter.

Not worth more than about $15? The experience is worth as much as you're willing to pay for it. I feel like it was a bargain at $30 + tax, because I have often paid $50 for games only to get far less out of them.

Sweet! But playing one would make me want to play more!

But Mia is there.....??? WTF HOWWWWW?

GS3 case 1: Mia's first case as a lawyer. Her job: defend her client, Phoenix Wright!

the case 2 "translation" is quite funny, by the way...:lol

Prequel, I believe.

EDIT: OBJECTION!!! Mostly beaten to the punch by Crazymoogle, no doubt as revenge for my similar action in the Ape Escape 3 thread.

I'd already rented and beaten it you understand. I only bought it since it's apparently rare as hell now (used copies go for 30 or so on ebay now), and even though I'll never play it again it's worth $15. I tend to stay away from buying games like this full price simply because there is no replay value.

Oh, I see. Well that makes sense!

Are these guys going to translate part two as well?

GS2 and GS3 are absolute classics. They are way better than PW1/GS1. So you guys better bombard Capcom in order to get them to localize/port them to DS as well.

That is true.. games like this are funny that way, because they're so linear that there isn't much left to see once you've played it once. Grandia II was that way. But just like with that game, the level of quality is so high that in a couple of years, say, after a string of disappointing games, I can come back and enjoy it as much as ever..

I just acquired a copy of the game today... In the manual, it talks about episode 5 having some nature of crime scene investigation elements they added exclusively for the DS. It'd be cool if they created a new PW game designed entirely (and specifically) for the DS where every case had such elements. That would rock.

...but when does Capcom do anything that would be good?

I think I'm already past the point of "while I still can." And it depresses me since it's gotten such unanimously good reviews.

I don't get the insane love for this game ...yeah, it's pretty fun, and some good dialogue...but nowhere near GotY level for me...

How do I add subtitles to the video?

I'm new to this and have both files. I just don't know how to mix them together.

Get Media Player Class or VLC Media Player.

Phoenix isn't in it? WTF?! Why get rid of him after 3 games and a remake? That seems totally odd to me. Well, as long as the game stays true to its art style, gameplay and story, the new hero won't be a huge problem.

DMC3? Releasing Gyakuten Saiban in the states? Street Fighter 2 on XB Live Arcade? Should I go on?

EDIT: Oh good god. The TGS case is awesome. "My back pocket...a CRIME?!"

I'm liking the game quite a bit, chapters are quite long though, which sucks cause my gf wants to play it but it wipes my mid chapter saves...

Pretty neat game, but I have to admit I suck at it a little.

From where?

I just played the first case of the GBA translation, that rocked!

Phoenix Wright is definitely the best DS game out right now IMO. I loved every second of it. The absurdity of some of the later cases only adds to the overall experience. The part where
the parrot
took the witness stand and you had to cross examine her left me in stitches just because it was just so ridiculous.

I really want them to bring the other PW games over.
