Had to check it out because my boy Bateman is in it. Pretty good. I loved the twist at the end. The whole movie sets you up into believing the obvious so that it can lay the semi mind fuck on you at the end. Pretty sad I guess. Overall a good movie made great by Bale.

Bale is insane. To get THAT skinny just for a movie is crazy. Also, Jennifer Jason Leigh is hot and has nice boobs.

Hang out with Steve.
Yeah it's a good movie. Hard to believe that Bale could be that skinny and then still be able to bulk up to be Batman :)

It stuck with me after seeing it. Didn't like it leaving the theater but liked it more and more thinking about it. He was DISGUSTINGLY skinny. I read he ate 1 apple and 1 can of tuna every day for a year.

He was excellent. Should have been given some nom from SAG or Goldens.

I thought the movie was good, Bateman especially is good in it. The twist I thought was a bit of an anti-climax.

Oh yeah, that's one thing. . .

Why the constant cleansing with bleach? Was it the fairly obvious reason for his guilt, or was there something more to it?

Yeah, the twist wasn't all that great.
As far as suprise twists go, stuff like Sixth Sense and Fight Club work better because the guy who turns out to be insane/delusional/dead has seemed so normal all the way through, with The Machinist, once it's established that the character is nuts, then it becomes too easy to distrust the crazy/incongrous events that seem to be happening to him.

However I really enjoyed the film overall, the acting was great, the mood was really intense, and it had quite a few nice little humorous touches that worked out really well.

The DVD's out on June 7th.

I shouldn't have read this thread, now I'm expecting the twist.

It's pretty easy to see coming anyway, and imo, the film has a lot more going for it than just knowing what's going to happen.

I thought the trailer looked awesome but I never heard anything about the release. Was it really limited or did I just miss it somehow?

Probably limited release. The only reason I gave a crap was cause a friend was really stoked about it. Glad I did see it though.

Guess when you are cast as Batman suddenly an increased number of people start taking more of an interest in your career.

Yeah, it was in limited release, which sucked, because I'll go pay money to see anything with Christian Bale in it. Looking forward to the DVD release.

i believe it played in sevral locations in dc and was at the estreet cinema for a long time.

NO EXCUSE.

I saw it way back in September at the Vancouver Film Fest. The movie just seemed to meander and ended on a very unsatisfying note. I really like the director as Session 9 and Happy Accidents were good films but here he just couldn't get a handle on the material and deliver it as well.

Bale did go above and beyond for the film and I really appreciate his effort. I'd love to talk about just where I'd have liked the film to go but it would spoil the hell out of it.
