The holograms are just plain holograms... the technology still isn't there today, to my knowledge, let alone in the 1980s.

Oh, the technology was there...it's just a matter of what technology you were expecting!

If you were hoping for a fully-animated, realtime 3D rendered holographic image on your tabletop....then move along, this wasn't it.

If, on the other hand, you were merely satisfied to play a game with a crude LED matrix illuminating portions of a predrawn holographic image, then this unit delivered the goods!
