Seems kinda unfair to imply he has certain bias, he is known for being toughtful, considerate and empathic towards opressed folk:

So yeah, he is actually a very decent fellow when it comes to talking about defending mino-Wait a minute:

Ok, this might seem like he is showing empathy only when it comes to whites being discriminated against, but at least it doesnt look like he is ignoring the systemic discrimination or implying that minorities are equally guilty:

Well shit. Ok ok ok, this is getting a little bad every passing minute but I doubt he is gonna play the victim card:

Im out.

Oh man, it never ends!

For a moment, I thought you were being serious.

Yes, that's pretty much Seanspeed's schtick. It's never clearcut racism unless it's directed at a white person; always act wounded and play up the white victim angle; declare "everyone is racist anyway, so let's not talk about whites being racist" as an attempt to stifle discussion; etc. I wouldn't have bothered if he were the least bit rational and had a mix of opinions that show he's not a disgusting person with an agenda (I myself don't agree on every issue that's raised in these sorts of threads), but it's all very transparent and one-sided.

I hope none of the moderators mind this sort of thing, but I feel this "public shaming" needs to be done more often instead of quietly letting these people slink off until the next thread and continue the insidious pattern of undermining every single thread that actually matters to some of us. They contribute to an undercurrent of hostility on GAF that's callous and intolerant.

Saying that word is wrong... however I have to say this...

if the word is deemed unneccesary/ hateful and wrong then it should be for all and not a particular race or races...

If you are a rapper and you use that work openly in your music and kids buy your music... dont be suprised when the word is used... PERIOD.

Otherwise to me this is a dead conversation. I know he used KKK references as well... but again... he is/ was a kid when this was done.

Here is my suggestion... get a boat (one of Jay Z's yachts will do). Put Chris Brown, Justin Bieber, Donald Sterling, Kim K, Kanye West, Jay Z, Beyonce's sister and every member of TMZ and the poparazzi ... on it... take it 100 miles out to sea and sink that son of a bitch!

Then maybe we can hear real news when we cut the tv on.

Quick work on that alt, Sean

Just because he was younger does not make him free from scrutiny.

That yacht suggestion won't solve anything.

May I direct you to the BBC? They have great news.

The bottom line for me is this:

Is what Beiber said ignorant and racist? Yes.
Is Bieber a racist now? Well, I wouldn't base that on something he said 6 years ago when he was barely in his teens.

He lived in Canada, where I'm sure he hadn't interacted with too many black people during the time of the video. At 20, he's traveled the world, met a ton for black people, and went through puberty, a process that, yes, has a serious effect on a person's maturity. There's a big gap in maturity between 14 and 20; that's something few of you can deny. That he eggs people's houses and has sex with hookers speaks nothing about if he's a racist. Based on what we know about his experiences, I'm inclined to give Beiber the benefit of a doubt.

So, no, I'm not ready to vilify a 20-year-old Justin Beiber because of racist shit he said when he was a 14-year-old kid.

Where does the idea come from that there are no black people in Canada?

Growing up in Canada is not an excuse....

Can this be a reality show instead?

Biebervelli letting it fly doesn't even bother that much.

Its the people that will defend the ignorance to death that deserve the point and laugh

If that's the part of my opinion you want to pick at, then fine. Looking up where he was raised, he grew up in an area that was about 95% white, and neighboring areas are more or less the same. Doesn't seem likely he really interacted with too many black folks. So whether or not Canada does in fact have black people, my point still stands.

As I said in the last thread, I don't know if Bieber is racist but I sure as hell know he's a piece of shit. I talk shit about Chris Brown all the time but he probably got through his 100 days in jail like a man with his head up. Put Bieber in jail and he'd have a nervous break down and never do a "black" thing ever again.

I have no interest in seeing him punished for saying the n word. I want to see him thrown in jail next time he does something that would get a regular person time. That would satisfy me.

No point in singling BugattiBiebs out. There are plenty of notregularpeople that live free and die hard out there

Decided to check out the video after all the noise.

Holy shit, what a racist little dipshit.

Now I've got a good reason to dislike this idiot.

The other thing with "teenagers do stupid shit", like other posters in this thread have mentioned, discrimination/offensive ethnic group jokes are on a whole different tier when it comes to stupid shit. Stealing, graffiti, doing drugs, bullying, egging someone's house, etc... Those are things where we should be going "Oh he was only 14, give him another chance" for. Making offensive/hurtful jokes towards an ethnic group is beyond the normal "teenagers do stupid shit" realm, or at least it should be.

I'm sorry, I don't know how you can say some of the bolded above is worse than making stupid hateful comments. For one, stealing and vandalism is illegal, and far worse than calling someone a name. If you want to give a teenager a pass for breaking the law, than you should also give them a pass for saying something stupid.

You sound like part of the problem, you just booked your seat on the cruise.
Them's some cold words.

Did you just imply that I should be sent out on a ship to sea and present while it sinks to the bottom of the ocean all because I know a ratings hit when I see one?

Is not one of the prevailing arguments that shaming racism is one of the more humane and effective tools we have to combat it? Wouldn't that do the trick?

I'm sorry, I don't know how you can say some of the bolded above is worse than making stupid hateful comments.

I'm saying his discriminatory language was worse. But based on the rest of your conversation I'm going to assume you meant to say the crimes were worse, so let's continue.

For one, stealing and vandalism is illegal, and far worse than calling someone a name. If you want to give a teenager a pass for breaking the law, than you should also give them a pass for saying something stupid.

A kid spray painting their name on a house or stealing some candy from a grocery store or egging someone's house are against the law, but IMO, they are lower on the "socially fuck up scale" than making a song about joining the KKK and killing a black person. Even if the above are crimes and the latter is not a crime, it's a lot easier to rehabilitate from stealing or pranking someone than it is to get rid of discriminatory attitudes/lack of respect for an ethnic or other social group because that lack of respect carries into other areas of life, from who you hang out with to who you employ to who you want to see your daughter dating, regardless of if he never says the "stupid shit" again.

Still firmly sticking to the idea that you can't really prove he's internalized such a thing and label him racist, as people can grow up, but this is increasingly uncomfortable and approaching "the line." The last video was less alarming than this one, and less indicative of potentially racist undertones. Here he just seems to be amused through the use of the word n***er alone, like when a kid learns the word poop or something and laughs at anything with the word in it.

Sorry, I still have to disagree. You are getting pretty specific now for the Beiber case, but your previous post was more general. I think the average person would rather get called a name (even if it's the worst name possible) by some stupid teenager than have that same teenager break in to their home, trash it, and rob them when they are out. Both suck, but I'm just saying that getting called a name is nowhere even close to having a crime committed against you.
