All eight members of a new girl K-pop girl band, travelling for an album cover shoot in the United States, have been detained at Los Angeles airport on suspicion that they might be sex workers, their agency says.

The eight member band, Oh My Girl, were held for 15 hours on Thursday before being released, after which they flew back to South Korea.

Their agency WM Entertainment released a statement saying the LA immigration authorities had gone through the band's costumes and props.

"Then, probably because of their young age, they seem to have mistaken them as sex workers," the statement said, without elaborating.

That last quote... I don't even know how to take it.

Edit: But wait, there's more.

The eight-member act had no issue passing through immigration at the Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday, but problems emerged when customs authorities started questioning the relationship between its members and the agency staff, WM Entertainment said.

One of the staff members mistakenly used the word “sister” to describe the relationship, and U.S. authorities seem to have taken the members as sex workers after examining their costumes and props, it added.

Has K-pop gone too far?

I could legit marry any one of 'em... i dont even care which one.
They're so cute (✿◠‿◠)

And this thread goes into weird directions. Holy fuck, some posts.

I wouldn't immediately cry racism. If you don't know anything about the group the costumes, amount of girls and the dodgy answers all raise suspicion.

.

I imagine a lot of the costumes don't leave a lot to the imagination

Its still a fuck up but not an incomprehensible one.

Did they not have minders to verify their credentials?

Young girls with sexual costumes with adults clearly not related to them giving dodgy answers. Yeah, it's not hard at all to see how this would happen without bringing racism into it. Also Korea has it's own issues with racism.

The one on the far right is the nerd, isn't she?

That's messed up though, I wonder what these costumes looked like. Modern day pop act...sex workers...there is a thin line in terms of costuming.

Groups like this legit weird me out, they look so fake.

I don't blame LAX, a group of youngish girls being chaperoned around by older men is uhm, interesting.

You mean one under age girl with dresses. Look them up, their costumes are not even as sexual as everything Arianne Grande seems to wear on a regular basis.

lol.

Sounds like he answered with a direct translation based on Korea's use of the words for "brother" and "sister" to refer to anyone older or younger than them.
