K-Pop Fanboy/Fangirl |OT6| Thank You for Love

Sunye was a great singer and I've missed her, but Yeeun's range of capabilities and Sunmi's amazing tone have essentially made me forget about Sunye's absence.

Now, how can we get Sohee back in the group? There's no substitute for Sohee. Preemptive brush off for the antis

Despite being a step back in almost every sense from their Reboot comeback, I can't hate, because it's still really good. The 3 tracks work really well in tandem, and the prerelease track sounds great with proper audio quality.
Not a step back. Just a different style and sound.

All the tracks are fantastic, I love that they are able to make the music they want to make.

Yeah, I'm talking from a personal point of view. I don't know, they are missing on the impact of Reboot, with the band concept and everything. And only 3 tracks feels like an appetizer.

At the end of the day, Reboot was just TOO good.

Yeah.

I don't hate reggae but Korea seems to have a weird ass fascination with the Rastafarian culture so I was expecting to be some cheesy ass reggae track like what HaHa & Skull usually puts out.

But I'm pleasantly surprised coz it works really well... the other tracks are also really good too.

I'm disappointed though. Why the fnck is this shit a single?? I need MOAR!!

Band concept is evolving since they're now also recording their instruments for the tracks. In that way it's far more realised than before and I also hesitate to call it a concept since they're basically moving away from being a group and becoming a proper band.

Agree that 3 tracks is a tease though. Hope we don't have to wait another year for new material.

What's wrong with you? Did you really think you could get away with posting that gif of Suzy? Sicko.

Anyway, I have always loved Xiumin.

Really happy with this year so far. The only lackluster department is the debuts department. Here hoping that the 2nd half brings us also quality releases.

Since we're talking 6 months here, what kind of groups/concepts do you like? Do we even consider hip hop/indie/electronic, or it's straight up K-Pop recommendations?

Edit: At the very least check out Twice's "Cheer Up", Mamamoo's "넌 is 뭔들", and GFriend's "Rough" (though personally the latter is not my style), 3 of the best charting K-Pop songs this past 6 months. Also Oh My Girl's continued run of great, underappreciated songs ("Liar Liar", "One Step Two Step", "Windy Day") - make sure you watch their choreo on stages.

Ah, yeah! I probably should have given a little more context. It's mainly electronic for me, with a smattering of hip-hop, but there's generally so much overlap, I tend to give everything a try.

Wow, I now feel so dumb. I've heard every one of these songs, pretty much ad-nauseum here - stores aren't shy about blasting music out at all times. But it's nice to be able to put names to them, as well as hear them as they were 'intended', because the shitty sound-systems that they've been playing from, really don't do them justice!

Love the dance version of Taeyeon's "Why", she's looking great.

The instrumental in the chorus of the song is killer. Just wish there was more of it and that the vocals blended in with it a bit better, they drown it out too much as is.

Great list! It really has been a good year, so far. My own top two are the same, though "Someone Like U" could get nudged out by "Windy Day," which I like more the more I hear it. That pre-chorus is perfect. Nothing's knocking "Deepened" from the top this year, though, I don't think.

My guilty pleasure of the year is Cross Gene's "Noona, You":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6l-CkRJOJs
The song's catchy enough, but I think I like it way more than I should because of its video, which is genuinely funny. It always kills me that the rapper uses a basketball as his primary weapon on a deadly rescue mission.

And, even though it's super-gimmicky, I can't hate Grace's "I'm Fine":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WT_jL5rRxW8
Stupid song gets stuck in my head way too often.

Full Unpretty Rapstar 3 line-up revealed (until they add the other rapper(s) in episode 6 or so as usual)

Miryo (Brown Eyed Girls)
Ha Joo Yeon/Baby J (ex-Jewelry)
Yuk Jidam (Season 1)
Jeon Soyeon (Produce 101)
Yuna Kim (ex-The Ark)
Nada (Wassup)
Grace
Giant Pink
J.Ne
Kassy

Miryo's got the most to lose here. It'll be interesting to see how she approaches it.
The same Kassy who was featured in this 2BiC song? That's pretty great, she was featured in one SM Station song:
[STATION] 이특 X 수호 X 케이시 X 조영수_나의 영웅 (My Hero)_Music Video
together with Leeteuk, Suho and Cho Young Soo (2BiC producer). Not sure about the other contestants but she can definitely sing too.

Official uploads of the weird as fuck but hilarious Oh My Girl performance in a fanmeeting. Front view, multiangle.

인피니트(INFINITE) "그 해 여름 (두 번째 이야기)" Teaser
Fuck you Infinite. The day they stopped working with Sweetune is the day they died as a group. But who needs them anyway when we have:

ROMEO_MIRO_M/V(DANCE Ver.)
Solid, as always.

[Teaser] SE7EN(세븐) _ I’M GOOD(괜찮아)
Dat PR friendly comeback

Yess, hyped for amazing choreo.

I usually keep an eye on Cross Gene because they do release catchy music, but their last single didn't click for me. Their sometimes ridiculous MV are hilarious.

Also, I've never heard of this Grace girl or this channel *subscribes*.

Questionmark's Jisoo fansite incoming

I've already mentioned that I like these girls and hope they deliver.

It's a lazy comparison, but I'm fine with Black Pink being Red Velvet with more... err, "edge." Mind, I mean closer to the good 4Minute end of the spectrum, and not the 2NE1 overdone end of things.

The dance aspect was somewhat given, so we just need the vocals and song material to be solid. Their debut doesn't have to be amazing.

"One Of These Nights" is a good song. Remember, we have members who dislike anything that sounds even remotely like Hip-Hop or R&B, just as we have members who run in the other direction if a song is down-tempo or sounds like a ballad. Of course, some like the type of song RV released, and simply think "One Of These Nights" is dull.

At the end of the day, Reboot was just TOO good.

After just listening to them, it's pretty much how I feel too. I can recognize that there is a lot of effort here, and they should be applauded for trying something different, but Reboot was so in-line with I like, I was always going to be a little hesitant to embrace the next thing. I just hope the wider audience recognizes that fact, too and doesn't shit on it.

When a group changes their style (and you like it), it's imaginative and new, whereas if they change direction (and you like the old stuff), they are being fickle and reactionary. Although that's not quite the case here, because (most) posters are sensible.

Song is already doing better on the charts than I Feel You. Best first day sales on Melon for any girl group this year, actually.

Yeah I mean the reaction in Korea both chartwise and also in comments has been better than I Feel You so it's definitely not being shit on.

To be fair though, One Of These Nights is a "Velvet" track. Early indications of "Velvet" was that it was sultry R&B instead of a pure ballad and with those expectations coming in, it was obviously going to fail expectations right from the start.

I love OOTN as a song but I don't think it's the right song for a group like RV. That's not to say they didn't nail it coz they absolutely did amazing work on it, but it feels a little too mature for RV and it's fans. I'm not even gonna talk about the MV or the meaning behind the lyrics, I'm just going by sound and it's such a huuuuuuuuuuge jump against what they were doing before.

It's like they went from your standard K-Pop balladeers to the likes of Urban Zakapa in literally one night. I've watched a couple of their live performances of the song and it feels a little unrealistic coming from them. It doesn't feel fake but rather maybe a little forced? Idk tbh, but to me, it's one of those songs that I'll not watch live. But it definitely does deserve to be in the top 10.

Also, it's kinda funny we're talking about it now coz tomorrow is that day the song is referencing, the 7th day of the 7th month of each year.

This is actually really interesting and I don't really think of it that way.

Going back to Red Velvet, I do think what they did with OOTN is very imaginative, new and in-line with what I love and I really think they couldn't have handled it any better. I dunno maybe I'm just overthinking things.

As for WG, the entire single is fantastic and I don't get the hate people are throwing at it. I guess coz it's not an entire album or even a mini but I'd rather they constantly put out great stuff in small amounts than wait an entire year for a whole album or they rush stuff out and it's crap. Quality over the quantity is my take.

I don't think anyone is hating it though? We are just comparing it to their previous release and saying their preference.

It's the Pink Tape/Red Light situation again, the style change is going to trigger different reactions on people.
